Review The Bull - Charlbury

Exceptional service.. I mean properly exceptional service, Welcome to getting the check felt completely looked after by servers who had character, were knowledgeable and engaging. The food was very well presented and of the highest quality. Perhaps some dishes lacked imagination in places but overall solid cookery with honest flavours. I didn't indulge in the wine list as I stuck to beers from the bar and these were very enjoyable. Overall refreshingly different from the plethora of very similar pub menus in the area. A great addition to our local area's food scene. 10 stars to the front of house staff who are all really at the top of their game.

The food was amazing, both imaginative and delicious. I loved that they mainly use produce from their own farm and other local suppliers. I am both vegan and gluten free. The y catered for me wonderfully. The service was great. Our waiter clearly enjoyed working there and looked after us extremely well and ensure we had a great time. I plan to be back there soon.

I was for some reason slightly apprehensive that we’d leave hungry as the menu is quite vague… however we had the most beautiful meal with lots of sharing plates. The food was exceptional and the decor matched. The staff were also incredibly kind and very well trained. Just an overall beautiful place and experience. They also had noted it was my partners birthday and made the effort to make it that bit more special. We wernt able to stay in a room as they are 18+ and we have a little 4 month old. Still, can’t wait to return!

Delightful food and service. We went for lunch with a 1 year old and they were very accommodating of us as a family. Loved the trout and green tomato starter and the plaice for main course. Would definitely go again!

Such a gorgeous place. We went for lunch to celebrate my husband’s birthday and it was the best choice! The atmosphere was wonderful and cosy, friendly and attentive staff… and the food so delicious, it’s been a while since we enjoyed such flavoursome meal. My husband is a chef and it is always tricky when we eat out as he judges everything! It’s inevitable I guess … but not this time! Everything was fabulous… Can’t wait to go back! Although, we live close by, we definitely want to visit again for a stay next time. Loved it! Well done to the Bull Team

Probably the best place to dine in the Costwolds. Super friendly and attentive staff. Local food, good cuisine, perfect location. Very affordable. Unbelievable.

Best restaurant I’ve tried in th costwolds. Lovely waiters and incredible homemade food with local products of extreme quality. We repeated twice in 2 days! Loved it

I’ve just - lucky me - had a brilliant, no exceptional, meal for one at this gorgeous place. Exquisite attention to detail, open fires, candles, great wine and incredible food. But topping all of this were the staff- knowledgable, highly capable, smart and kind. Special shout out to Brett for the extra care he showed me - the surprise ‘fries’ (the word fries doesn’t do them justice) and the coffee ‘because what’s a meal without a coffee’?

What a great meal we had last night. Staff were delightful, knowledgeable and provided great service. The food was seasonal and totally delicious. Lovely candle lit pub with great atmosphere, What is there not to love about the Bull ? Keep doinging what you do so well guys. Thanks for a lovely evening

Great atmosphere the food was fantastic. The service was satisfactory but could have been elevated with an explanation of the dishes and sides. I would recommend the Monk fish which was outstanding

10/10 for food and service. Lovely courtyard for dining, food cooking over open fire pits and great quaint outside bar area. All felt very relaxed and rustic but with 5* food and friendly staff. Overall, wonderful lunch that we went back 2 days in a row. Highly recommend and fully intend to dine there again in the future

Just simply amazing food and service. So nice to see a full busy restaurant with good fresh produce being delivered in such a fantastic way. We will be back. Many thanks to George and the rest of the team. The food and service was simply magnificent!..

Stunningly inviting and cosy space with roaring fires and dripping candles setting the scene. Great attentive service and a really lovely vibe on a Friday night. The food was utterly delicious and I taste a lot of food as an event planner. Based on sharing plates, with an ever changing menu to offer the best of the season. It was extremely tasty and very well done, simple food without the fuss but all the flavour. Will be back in a heartbeat and hope to make a night of it next time with an overnight stay so I can enjoy a few cocktails too.

We had such a good meal. The best chateaubriand I’ve ever had. The best thing about it was the service. We had Bruno! What a guy. If you go there, ask for him! He will treat you very well. Thanks again guys!

The food is top rate. We had lunch and eve meal. Not cheap but I believe you get what you pay for. Stayed over in one of their little rooms by the court yard. Cute rooms with lovely touches like centre bath and mini bottle of fresh milk with your tea and coffee set up! But the bathroom floor could have been cleaner (last occupants hair still on the floor, yuk!) But very comfortable and its a pub not a hotel after all. It could be noisy in these rooms in the summer I guess, as so near the pubs "outside life" but you should really be out there with everyone enjoying the great wines beers and the prosecco was excellent ;). On the whole a nice stay, not amazing but worth a stop if you are in that area anyway.

Great room with oodles of character and charm. Pub area is so cosy and the food is excellent but very fancy and menu could be better balanced to cater for all tastes. Staff are friendly and very helpful. Very dog friendly and in a great location.

Stayed over night for my birthday. Really loved it. We were lucky with the weather and toured the pubs in the village before dining and cocktails back at the inn. Staff are lovely and friendly, locals were really chatty and we had a really lovely meal. Our room, the burrow, was perfect. Would highly recommend this great little gem.

Definite improvement since our last meal there on Valentine's Day - change of staff and a focus on getting the basics right has paid off. Really enjoyed our meal. Well done, guys!

Lovely lunch with friendly efficient staff. Happily accommodated my little coeliac nephew with gluten free food. Good wine list and stylish new decor.
Andy Liggins
Beautifully designed, really good food but most importantly fantastic staff - affable, interesting, kind and helpful. Seems to act as a local 'cafe' too with people just popping in for a coffee. Would highly recommend.
Jeff Hudson
Cozy and charming lounge, restaurant and room with plenty of character. The lamb shoulder was excellent as well as the whole meal. Friendly staff and management. Would definitely stay here again.
Karen Rietz
Lovely ambience, food excellent and waitress extremely pleasant and attentive. Will definitely return, highly recommend.

Lovely place to stay, great atmosphere, staff really friendly and welcoming! Great Sunday roast and fab breaksfast! Can't fault our stay, will definitely return! 😬👍🏽

Music too noisy till after 11pm and the noise from the water pipes was also ridiculous. Told them when checking out and all I got was "sorry about that, how do you want to pay". On a positive note the food was good but cannot recommend as a place to stay!!!
Mark Foster
Very attentive staff. Quirky place good menu dog friendly.
Karen Richardson
Food was fab, waiter was so attentive and nothing was a problem - highly recommend

Loved it forgot my starter didn't matter Gave me free pudding and couldn't say sorry enough

Over priced for poor quality and poorly cooked food. Decor ok but noisy and boisterous bar area disturbed the diners. Inattentive service as well as a number of mistakes. Really Disappointing.
