We always call into Lion Rock whenever we are in Cheddar. My coeliac husband loves their gluten free cream tea and yesterday he enjoyed a gluten free big breakfast. The waitress explained that there would be a little delay as they use a separate toaster and fryer and would need time for it to heat up. Good to know that the staff are aware of cross contamination issues.
Friendly, smiling staff as soon as we walked in, we were shown to our table and didn't have to wait. The food and drinks were delicious. Would definitely go back. Special shout out to our server, Dudley, who was very attentive. Great place, I would recommend to anyone.
What an amazing little tea room. Had lunch here. The staff were very pleasant and lovely music playing in the background. Out of all the cafè's/tea rooms we tried in cheddar I would definitely recommend this one over the others. Very traditional tea room,
This place is a must if you are in Cheddar! We visited two days in a row as the breakfast is the best we’ve ever had We also brought some delicious cakes and brownies to take down to Wookey Hole.
What a lovely tea room. we visited for the first time at Christmas. What a great warm welcome we had as we entered the tea room. Such friendly polite staff. The main man running the place Simon is wonderful. The food is delicious and such a variety to choose from, they cater for vegans, vegetarians, dairy free. The decor is beautiful and feels so warm and cosy. I love the 50s inspiration. I did not want to leave, felt like home. The tea room is spotlessly clean. I will definitely return time after time. Cannot wait to book an evening meal.
Myself and a friend visited Lion Rock Tea Rooms for afternoon tea as a present to me for my 30th, but loved it so much that we came back today as her 30th present from me. We booked ahead but ended up getting to cheddar early and it was raining so we came in sooner and were seated straight away by the log fire which was lovely on a cold and wet day. Since our previous visit I have had to go gluten free and I was impressed by the options available on the separate gluten free menu. The tea rooms had noted my dietary requirements on the booking so came over with the menu straight away. The food was lovely and the staff very attentive. Thanks for another lovely visit.

Such a lovely place. Great food and great service. Very friendly staff. I highly recommend visiting.
Four of us had a lovely afternoon tea on the outside patio area, attentive and friendly staff. Amazing decor and selection on the menu. Will definitely be returning!
Beautiful little tea room, I sat in the garden and would highly recommend a visit. Attention to detail in all aspects was brilliant x
We stopped off one weekend for a sandwich and scone. Loved the service, staff, decor and food. We are making a three hour round trip this Sunday just so we can sample the Sunday roast as a treat - can’t wait!!
Absolutely great. My wife and I were given a voucher for tea for two, and we enjoyed it so much that we will definitely be going back. The sandwiches were just right, the cakes to die for and the scones with jam and cream were just perfect. Thanks for a lovely day.
Had the most delicious chocolate cream tea here today. Highly recommend and we will definitely be back again soon!
Great place tucked away in Cheddar Gorge. Have been here for breakfasts & special evenings. Never ceases to provide great food & service
Had a lovely gluten free afternoon tea at the Lion Rock cafe. Great little cafe with fantastic staff! We will be back again.
We ordered Soup of the day. The soup isn't liquid. So it's quite filling. Alongside, we had a toasted cheddar and chutney doorstop sandwich and cheddar and toasted ham sandwich. We also had cream tea with cheese scone and a normal scone. The scone came with chutney and clotted cream. Overall, we were beyond filled so had to pack one each of the sandwiches.
If you take the outdoor seating, you can see the lion figured mountain behind the restaurant. The rooftop seating is fantastic. The service was speedy and splendid. Definitely a great experience.
Staying locally and dropped in as we had a voucher for afternoon tea and this was the nearest.
Lovely tea room in Cheddar Gorge - busy but plenty of seating. Friendly service. Music was a little loud but quality 50s and 60s so we didn’t mind.
Afternoon tea was perfect. Plenty of food. Warm scones and much fun had. Thank you.
We popped in on the off chance they took dogs, to our delight they did!
It was pouring and we were made to feel very welcome, service was diligent and quick. Lunch portions were big and delicious. We had a cream tea which we can recommend too. Brilliant 👏
We really enjoyed our afternoon tea. Good service and friendly staff. Nice surroundings. Food lovely and a proper pot of tea 🍵. Clean and tidy place. Would go again.
Visited two days in a row, first morning had a cream tea. The scones was warm and fluffy. The second morning we had "The big" breakfast. Both times it was amazing and the loose leaf tea was the best I've had. Would highly recommend.
Gorgeous tearoom! Food was delicious - heart shaped scones were adorable and tea was a lovely loose leaf blend. We sat in the little garden at the back and were served by a young lady with a badge that read “in training” - she seemed quite nervous, but she shouldn’t have been because she was doing a great job! 👍 a lovely end to our holiday in Somerset. We will be back next summer! Thank you! ❤️
10 stars would be more appropriate! We had breakfast at the café and it was absolutely delicious. The tea was proper loose tea with a strainer and we loved it. Lauren also makes the best coffee.
It was my daughter’s birthday and they put balloons on the table for me. I had also ordered a birthday cake to be delivered there which they brought to the table, singing Happy Birthday 🎶.
Steph, Sam and Lauren were amazing. If the weather is nice you can even sit in the lovely garden. If you are in Cheddar this is the place to stop.
Gorgeous quirky tea rooms with a roof top garden and stunning views of the gorge.
The food is mostly locally sourced and the taste was just stunning. My kids loved it and we would highly recommend for a cream tea. The freshly baked scones melt in your mouth.
Went this afternoon with a friend to use a voucher I’d been given for afternoon tea. Amazing!
The building and way the cafe is set up is beautiful. Exceptionally clean, well designed and decorated. Really quirky.
Service was brilliant. Staff were lovely, attentive and made the whole experience even better.
Food was fantastic. Fresh, home made, varied and great value for money. They do gluten free, vegan and vegetarian and although I didn’t eat any of these the fact they had something to offer will be something I take back to my family of many intolerances.
The location is the only slightly difficult bit, but you wouldn’t expect much else in the middle of a gorge! I would happily negotiate this to come back again. Really impressed
:-)
The bacon maple waffle was to die for. Staff were super friendly on an early Sunday morning. Highly recommend the pumpkin spice Latte too, not too sweet like some of the big chains.
What an amazing cafe in the heart of Cheddar Gorge! We had a voucher based afternoon tea booked. The team were very accommodating on the run up, helping me sort my (standard) double booking.
When we arrived on a raining Saturday afternoon the place was buzzing, with all ages - but not loud enough to prevent good conversations. Very pleasant (though cozy) 2 floor layout with some nice 2nd floor garden seating.
Great decor, not over done sitting somewhere between a cozy home and a contemporary cafe. Staff always had a smile and appeared relaxed and happy.
The only issue is the card machine didn't let me tip more!
My mum and I enjoyed Afternoon Tea at this delightful quirky establishment on April 25th. The food was delicious and beautifully presented. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Would highly recommend.
Cycled over to the Gorge, and decided to stop for a bit of lunch.
Wow! I was really looked after, and the food was fantastic.
Day off for me and Mrs S so went to Cheddar with our 20 month old Labrador Albie. This place was extremely dog friendly, they gave us a booth, so with Albie we didn't disturb anyone. Albie was well behaved and got a bowl of water and a dog biscuit.
Staff were super friendly and polite, nothing too much trouble.
Bridget had an Americano and granary toast, I went for the hearty breakfast sandwich (sausage, bacon, friend egg and hash brown) with a latte.
Food and drinks were excellent and reasonably priced.
Last time we came was for afternoon tea.
Both times have been great experiences definitely visit again.
If you are visiting Cheddar this cafe is a must! Gorgeous food, and the best staff. A beautiful setting and traditional tearoom.
Afternoon tea is a real treat if you want to celebrate something or just make the day extra special.
Lovely place for an afternoon tea, or just anything from the Fantastic menu. And they play music from the Sinatra years. Tables inside, outside or in several intimate rooms. Just a jem in Cheddars collection of eateries.
It’s a lovely place where you can enjoy
great food in a cozy way. Cakes were too sweet so I was disappointed to waste £4.5 in them but all the rest was just great.
Lovely place for a bite to eat in Cheddar and can be very busy. Parking is a nightmare (no fault of Lion Rock) which was the only downside.
Excellent mocha coffee ☕️ I would go so far as to say one of the best I've ever had.
Despite parking, loads of people and possibly having to wait for a table, it is well worth a visit and without doubt on my list for a return
Lovely breakfast that was the highlight of our time in lovely Cheddar. The English breakfast was sublime, definitely splurge for the black pudding. And the cakes delicious and moist. Haven’t yet had a chance to try the afternoon tea but expect this would be great as wel
