I went for a meal on the night of the comedy club and I have to say I was soo impressed with the staff and service, the place was full and despite this the staff were organised and on point! Fully attentive, can not recommend enough! Will be visiting again soon. Thank you and keep up the good work! �
Been here a couple of times, food is great, well prepared and quality of food is 1st class, it’s a busy place but great atmosphere, I would recommend this place very high, it’s hard finding good honest food, the pork belly is superb.

This is a good and upmarket place to eat created by an experienced restauranteur.
The mixed fish starter is lovely and they do gluten free bread so everyone can eat it! Unless you are allergic to fish of course.
The fish pie is always a firm favourite in our group and all the food is always to a high standard. It's not a cheap place to go and is always busy so be sure to book.
There's a good size disabled bathroom separate from the other toilets so it doesn't tend to get used by people who shouldn't be in there!

Really busy but you still feel important. Very well organised . Atmosphere is perfect for couples or parties. Can't fault The Lion, except maybe the parking is a bit stressful as they are so packed normally.
An unassuming place from the roadside but outstanding once in! From the inviting pub facade to the generous portions, this spot truly is about quality. Indulge in the delightful bread board or the perfect pork crackling; starters may seem unnecessary. The latte is a definite must-try. While the sides come at an extra cost, the Homemade Fish Pie and The Lion's Homemade Pie were an absolute delight, easily ranking among the best we've ever had. The service strikes a seamless balance - attentive and professional. The cozy ambiance is perfect for some Instagram-worthy shots. Remember, the kitchen starts taking orders at 12, but the wait is worth it. Consider arriving early or booking in advance on their website. Ample parking is an added bonus. Our bill for two amounted to approximately £65, excluding the tip. Already looking forward to our next visit for another delightful experience!
A friend recommended this inn for lunch. We visited about 3 weeks ago and enjoyed a lovely lunch in a great outdoor setting. My husband is disabled and in a wheelchair and the staff couldn't have been more helpful. Great friendly service. Although we live 15 miles away we will return.
We stumbled across here lunch after a walk at paperlock mill. The food was amazing and the decoration/restaurant was lovely and themed very well. At first thought we were going to a random pub but this is much more than that. More of a very nice restaurant/bar. The food was delicious, the best ribs I have ever had and my other half loved the pie!
Drove past this pub regularly decade's ago when it was quite run down. Over the years it's expanded and upgraded. Had the opportunity for 12 of us to celebrate a 90th birthday today and it's superb inside. Very busy but still the food and service was excellent. Will go again.... very soon.
Great place for families and groups wanting to get together for a meal. Reasonably priced food although a pint can cost over £6. You can even eat outside when the weather is good in the court yard..
Beautiful decor within the pub and the grounds leading in, with the water feature, were very peaceful.
We ate in the restaurant and had mixed feedback, steak was a little under but more than editable, chicken burger average nothing special, slow cooked pork was lovely and they accommodated changes to a children's meal which went down well with our little one.
Overall, seating areas outside are peaceful and relaxing in the varying sections.
We have just had our daughters wedding at this venue and I can honestly say that it was the best place that I have been to . They are so professional the staff all work together whether your in the restaurant having the fab food or the housekeeping team. Georgina and her fantastic team made the wedding venue look amazing with how they set every thing up. Was stunning and beautiful. They couldnt do enough for us and catered for our every whim. Been here a couple of times now once for dinner and more recently for lunch. Food every time has been amazing! The meat just fell off the bones for the ribs and the coleslaw was Devine! Only thing I would say is my husband had the pork belly and was not advised it didn’t come with any vegetables. But of a let down just have pork and mash on it own. The biscoff cheesecake through was another level! I wanted to take it all home! The Maltesers desert off the specials was nice but tiny for the price compared to the size of the cheesecake. Service was brilliant and we felt very looked after. Would highly recommend.
We had our wedding here and it was perfect!! They catered so well for our needs/a small wedding. They were in contact all through the process which was nice as you knew you could rely on them. Our personal coordinator (Ashton) was lovely and really cared.
The ceremony room itself was set up beautifully on the day and they ensured everything went smoothly. Also the meal was brilliant and no one went hungry.
The venue hire was such a good price and the meal was great value for money considering how much there was.

Food is really good, service is quite shoddy, admittedly a busy Sunday. Ordered starters and roasts, roasts came without any veg, had to chase 3x as well as for the cauliflower cheese we ordered on the side which was then charged twice as we had to chase for it. I would return to see if it was just an off day as the food was great, service really needs working on considering they have so many staff it’s very chaotic.
This place is by far one of the best venues in Essex.
We came here for a summer bbq night which was brilliant, the food was great as was the band.
We have been here several times before for dinner and always thoroughly enjoyed the food and the service.
This place is always so welcoming and has such a great atmosphere that we even decided to get married here last year and was not disappointed. The whole team make you feel very welcome and relaxed and the rooms are also very comfortable and done to an excellent standard.

Was only here for drinks but this place is stunning and was busy on a Tuesday! Shows its popular. Sat outside as its was lovely warm evening. Staff were friendly and accommodating. Will be back to dine here soon!
Best man at my mates wedding and would highly recommend. The hotel, function room, buffet and hotel rooms are brilliant.
My only complaint is the breakfast wasn't particularly good and vegetarians/vegans are not catered for very well as there was little or no choice but don't let that put you off.
First visit here. Popped in for dinner with a girlfriend.. The half wait was only 10 mins.. I had the fish pie.. Probably the best I have ever had! My friend the sea bass.. With a bottle of wine the meal was £70. Busy for a Monday, nice vibe and excellent service.
