Excellent service. Maisey treated us so well and looked after us closely. The ambience and good were both comforting. A well-priced menu for the area.

I'm just down a little on this visit, 4/5 stars.
It may be that there are staff pressures, they are certainly looking to recruit staff.
However the Angel seemed a little quiet on our visit.
Attention to detail can reveal more than is apparent, and the personable touch is always appreciated by the customer.
I'm asked to give a table number but after much searching find that many tables don't have numbers displayed; table condiments: salt and pepper: one is missing, the other is near empty, i ask for ketchup, and I'm given a very cold glass bottle 90% empty and does not deliver any of its contents.
So these are small concerns but...
The food was generally good, and patrons can expect a good value pub experience.
I would certainly recommend getting their app which has some generous offers.

I can't comment on food per say as only had nibbles. We were really there for afternoon drinks with friends. They had a good selection of beers wines and spirits. Large garden area to enjoy the sun and all reasonably priced.
I didn't get the bar staff names but both barmaids friendly and swift service.

Today I attended the Easter event as a stall holder. The event was extremely well run by Tracy and this was shown by the amount of families who attended.
The perfect place to advertise my little business and speak to local families. I can't wait to join you for the next one. Thanks again Tracy!

Wonderful caring and highly efficient service by Julie and the team. From the moment you walk into The Angel you are immediately put at ease. The food is excellent. Thank you Julie for the kindness and care you showed after I was anxious about dropping my hubby for treatment at nearby Broomfield Hospital. The Angel is aptly named - Angels work here as well. Thank you.

Visited the angel on Friday with my daughter. Its such a lovely pub with a cosy atmosphere. I have visited lots of times but don't always stay for food. Friday we ate here and the food was lovely. Found out the chef was Rhys. The food was cooked beautifully, piping hot, didn't wait long and a great end to a lovely day. Thank you, will be back before the holidays end :)

Fabulous entertainment from our waiter Stephen . Lots of jokes and fun.
He is an asset. Food was yummy. Lovely atmosphere. A bit gutted you are fully booked for Christmas 🎄

Had lunch with a friend and we were served by Crina, lovely waitress very attentive. Not to mention we had great food at the same time. Highly recommend 😋😋😋

What a really lovely place for something to eat and drink. The staff were so friendly. The place was spotlessly clean and the food was great.

We moved to Chelmsford a year ago and although I’ve been in for a cheeky pint we’ve never been in for a full sit down meal.
With my mum visiting from the north we decided to pop in for a roast before taking baby Foodmunkey to the pirate ship playground around the back.
From the outset we were greeted warmly having the door held open for us to bring the pram in, seated and provided our menus.
The service though was fantastic throughout, even allowing us to order our sons food later on when he woke up.
The trio roast was amazing. I just wish I’d have ordered more pigs in blankets as my wife stole my only one haha!
For the most part the starters were lovely, I’d just have liked the sauce on the prawn cocktail to have a little extra kick, but that’s just my preference.
We will definitely be back though for another roast and just for a general sit down meal!
Or even just a cheeky pint…. Again 😜

The food was actually OK but despite the fact that the food was pre-ordered weeks in advance we waited an hour for any food to arrive. The table was booked for 7.30pm, starters arrived at 8.30pm, mains at 9.15pm ad deserts at 9.45!! Some people that didn't order a starter had a very long wait to get any food. We had to keep asking for service and no staff were on hand to take a drinks order when we arrived for half an hour so we had to keep getting up and going to the bar. Not the waitresses fault just poor management at a busy time of year. Man up and staff up for your bookings and stop trying to gey away with mininal staff. It looks very bad and we won't be coming back as it wasn't a positive experience.

First time eating here having been a couple of times for beers, very disappointed. Only a light lunch on Monday afternoon. Burger and chips + fish finger baguette. Burger was over cooked and dry. Fish finger baguette barely had any tartare sauce. The supposedly triple cooked chips, sorry but one potion was oven chips. Clearly very different on both plates. I'm no chef but I could have knocked up better at home and for less. Plus it took 35 minutes to deliver it??? Table next to us received burnt garlic bread, how does burnt garlic bread leave the kitchen?

Just had Sunday lunch with 24 others of my family! Great meal, superb service from friendly staff. Will definitely be back to try some other dishes from the menu! Would also like to say a big well done to the kitchen staff who got our meals all prepared at the same time which all looked and tasted great! Could not have been easy with such a large number in one group with many others in to dine. Well done

Went for Mother's Day dinner yesterday and loved it. A bit disappointed there was no turkey left, but as we were a 4.30pm sitting I suppose that's to be expected. A bit of a wait for the food, but we didn't mind, it was lovely when we got it. A set menu, which was reasonable and quite a good choice. The waitress was fantastic, couldn't do enough for us and when she was supposed to finish at 6.00pm, noticed she was still chatting to customers and made sure her replacement knew who was waiting for which course before she left, way past her time. Would definitely go back there.

Salad was overpriced, fish batter was undercooked, dessert was overall disappointing. Service was good. Have had many better meals here before. Will put it down as a bad day. I'm sure I'll give this place another chance in the future.

Wasn't busy but had a long wait for the food, which wasn't overly hot. We both had a steak mine wasn't too bad but my partners was mostly fat, and the homemade onion rings were terrible definitely not worth the money. Lots of staff floating about but not actually doing anything so had to wait ages to pay. Shame as use to be lovely food and service.

A extensive menu. Food lovely. Waiting staff polite and attentive. Only thing is it's very dark. There are lots of lights but maybe dome of the bulbs should be s higher wattage. We will definitely go again.

This is the fourth time we have been to the angel in two months. After giving it a go for the first time in 3 years because it has been so bad for ages, but we have been very impressed with the change and the food has been very good plus the service has been excellent. We went for dinner on the Monday 12th March and it was very busy and for a Monday I was very surprised and thought oh dear the wait will be very bad but no it was fantastic had a great meal with my wife and daughters. I hope this will continue as we are local and good to walk to your local without worrying about driving. Plus they have just started to have a area for dogs so a dog friendly pub. Well done to all at the angel please keep it up.

Have visited here on a number of occasions and always very very pleased with the service, staff and food. Special mention to Scott who always goes above and beyond for my family and I. Thank you for another lovely meal.

Wasn't happy about a curtsy check on our food . No one asked . I've worked in pub trade and this should be done .

Had a lovely meal today Friday Lunch time to celebrate a friends Birthday. Food was delicious. Short wait time and great service. Will eat her again. Very impressed

Awful service this Sunday, not accommodating for young babies, waitress trying to move us from our table while feeding young baby, and repeated the request when baby had fallen asleep and just before food arrived. Numerous free tables for other 4 persons to sit at and enjoy Sunday lunch! Would strongly not recommend this public house if you have a young family.

Slow service despite the restaurant being nearly empty and we had pre booked. When the food arrived it was cold which meant some of it had to go back. It was less than ok it was disappointing. There needs to be a better kitchen/ waiting system going because our food had obviously been sitting in the kitchen for ages, not safe for meat! Won’t be coming back!

A great pub for food at a reasonable price. Part of the Vintage Inn chain with the standard menu. Plenty of choice and the ales are exceptional.
In winter the pub can be a little cold so wrap up. being an old building there is not much that can be done to keep out the cold.
A hint..go onto their webpage and join their friends option. They send out, on a regular basis, vouchers for 25% off table bills. Well worth it.

This is a pretty big pub with little nooks and crannies to sit, including in the garden, which is lovely for the warmer, sunnier weather.
It is the regular pub fare, nothing unusual on the menu given that this is a Vintage Inns venue. Worth noting that they don't offer breakfast, but there is a good food menu (and they do Sunday roasts too). There is also a pie offering, extensive enough to require a separate menu.
A good amount of parking is available here.

Very nice pub with a long history. The atmosphere is quaint and the desserts are delish. Service was good. Friendly staff.

The Angel is a typical English pub set in the suburbs of Chelmsford. It has a play area for kids and a big beer garden, so is perfect for summer drinks outside. I frequently go there with my Grandmother for a pub lunch and am always very impressed with the service and quality of food. There is always a new specials menu everytime we go, and the pub serves a variety of things, mainly centering on traditional British cusine with occasionally an italian or oriental twist. The salmon fishcakes are well worth trying when theyre on the menu. A good range of wines and drinks and staff are knowledgeable as to which drinks will complement your food.
