We were delighted with our visit to the White Horse yesterday, the first time we had been back to our local for a long time. This venue has had its share of problems over the years and the level of support from Mitchell and Butlers has been woefully inadequate at times when the pub was crying out for investment.
It was therefore encouraging to arrive and be warmly welcomed by a strong team of four behind the bar plus a dedicated food runner too. However busy the pub got, (and get it did) there was never a long wait for service and the Purity guest ale was of exceptional quality.
Our starters were excellent, (the soup very tasty and served piping hot) and we followed up with steaks accompanied by a generous serving of peppercorn sauce.
It did not just seem to be us who were enjoying the evening and there was a convivial atmosphere and contented buzz about the place that was really pleasing to note.
Running pubs in the current economic climate has become exceptionally challenging but it seems everyone on the team is going the extra mile to get things right and with Chelsea leading capably from the front the White Horse has become a local to cherish again.
Great progress has been made from some of the dismal experiences in the past and hopefully this will continue long into the future. The pub has a large catchment area and plenty of punters locally who are willing it to do well. Please keep up all of the good work. We are now looking forward to returning again on a more regular basis.

Lovely food but felt sorry for the lady working the Bar as was clearly short staffed.
Only negative is the mirror in the ladies toilet is too high up unless you're 6ft tall you'll never be able to look in it.

Very clean and very welcoming establishment. We held our late father's wake here, the staff were very accommodating and the food served was excellent, enjoyed by all. Would recommend and Thank you

Got there 5p.m. Sunday afternoon, not that busy . Order drinks and food at the bar once we had our table number, 20 minutes later starters turn up hot and very tasty, then once starter finished up came beef roast dinner, plenty of it, very good, all washed down with a delicious bottle of wolf Blass shiraz very nice .👍

My family have been going to the quiz nights here for years and even through the changing of management and so on, it's been lovely. Tonight was particularly good seeming they dealt with a power outage and then an influx of customers ordering at once for their meals. Every dish on our table was lovely, the staff were efficient (although there was a wait on food due to the influx) and the vibe of the whole place was great
I would highly recommend this pub and it's worth the walk or drive if you want an overall great experience

Visited This lovely Pub/Restaurant yesterday and we were greeted by two members of staff behind the bar with a very warm welcome. The pub was beautiful and spotless. Ordering food was easy and our food arrived in good time pipping hot and looking and tasting amazing. The floor staff were amazing and very attentive. We will definitely be coming back for another visit!

Excellent steaks, a welcoming atmosphere and a reasonable draught beer. Pleased to see this great pub getting back to pre-Lockdown standards. Thanks!

The staff were so friendly and lovely. The pub had a lovely feel. We just moved into the area and kept driving past . We thought it looked very welcoming. It really was!!. Jenny and Lexi made us feel very comfortable. We are already looking forward to coming back for food and the popular quiz night.

Had Sunday lunch - huge plate of food and yummy treacle sponge - good value but food could have been hotter! Good service, friendly staff and the facelift has made the pub lighter and more up to date!

I had my birthday celebrations here the weekend before Christmas and I have to say it was fab. Lovely venue, gorgeous food and very attentive and lovely staff. Would definitely recommend it. Thank you so much to everybody at the White Horse

Prawn cocktail starter had toasted white bread instead of non toasted granary, and no butter. Loads of prawns but sauce was a bit dull. Belly pork with chorizo was massive and on the whole nice, not sure the jous was anything more than gravy and couldn't work out why the chorizo was even there. Both brownie and apple pie desserts were lovely, just a shame they brought them out as we were putting down the cutlery from our mains, they hadn't even cleared our plates away. On the whole an ok meal and reasonable value but with just a little effort could have been so much better.

Yesterday meal was not as good as I have had before, the starter was nachos which too be honest are hard to get wrong, the mains where the let down my friend had Scampi and found it not too be very hot and left most of her chips as they where cold, I went for the Lasagne which came with Salad, I was disappointed with the Lasagne thought it lack in taste and didn't look the most appetizing it had been put under a grill to melt the cheese but maybe too long, serving salad on a warm plate is not the best idea the lettuce was wilting and cucumber & tomato's where warm which is not nice, we order desert and I had to change mine after I had order it as the chef inform front of house they were out of stock of my original choice something I always feel they should know, I chose a mini desert and coffee and was given a normal size dessert and coffee as way of an apology which was a nice touch, as I said I have had better meals here hopefully this was a one off

Lovely pub. Accommodated us a party of nine including kids at short notice. Good food, good service, one of the best pubs in the area with a great atmosphere.

Friendly staff, food ok, would have been nice if it all arrived at the same time, but they work out that they'd over charged us and refunded us, beer is good 😊

Have to say it as it is, have eaten there several times ,myself ,and family.
Never been disappointed, polite, and helpful staff made it a very pleasant experience.
Also, the food ,both the quality, and the quantity, and for the price, very reasonable indeed...happy new year!

Awful, slow miserable staff. Ordered a sandwich, took 45 minutes, then to find it had no butter, I asked why and they said we don't use butter in case your allergic. Dry bread. O yeah and no ice at 1pm in a pub. Won't be going back, not only bad Food, useless staff, didn't seem to care for customer service.
Paul Stone
A regular place to chill out after a bit of shopping in town, love it here!

Excellent wonderful place... But of course I was very very drunk ha! 😂

If I was the manager I would be thanking Chloe in a big way as she was at times the only one behind the bar keeping the ship afloat and making sure the customers were kept happy.
