Lovely old pub, down a single track, dead end road, in the middle of nowhere! I first came here in 1978. Fascinating history, displayed around the inside. Basic but good pub food. Nice selection of beers and friendly staff. Plenty of seating inside and out. The original single bar room is now a lower dining area. The main pub area now, being part of the original house.

3 of us called into the Royal Oak on the way back from Goodwood Revival after finding this pub on Google Maps. My brother and I had steak that was nice and tender. My sister in law had the mushroom pie which she said was delicious. We chatted with a couple of locals who had a lovely little puppy. The landlord and staff were very friendly and made us feel welcome. Will definitely be back as it’s a great walking area.

We only stopped off for a drink whilst out walking along the South Downs Way. It isn't far off the route and as it was a lovely autumn day it was nice to sit outside in the pretty garden. The landlord made us feel very welcome and the pint of Guiness was a good one. We didn't try the food on this occasion, but it looked good. So, maybe next time.

An amazing find. If you can find it you'll have the best of times. Enthusiastic, cheerful and patient staff. Lovely food, lovely drinks in an English oasis. Please try and visit, you won't regret it. The jerk chicken was better then any I've had in my local West London.

This is one of my favorite pubs I have visited in the UK over the past 20 years. Dave the owner is a very nice guy. The venison pie I had was excellent, and the treacle pudding was outstanding!!!

Bank Holiday treat on our hike on the SDW. A wonderful warm cosy rest unexpectedly open for the holiday. Very kind staff & dog friendly.

Good location for a quiet meal or drink. Good watering hole for a refreshing mid MTB ride. Close to the downs and great grounds and spot for an exercise break. Only ever cycled or walked there. Close to a main road, but at the end of a single track lane. Lovely place.

Quiet tucked away old style pub. Really welcoming staff who engage. Very quiet maybe because of location or time.

Classic English pub in a lovely setting. Great walks all around and a very pleasant place to rehydrate afterwards, especially in the garden. Pity it’s not open longer hours.

Lovely pub, tucked away down a single track road, good parking when you get there! Nice home cooked food, reasonably priced, with charming friendly staff. Recommended
