Excellent, pub and hotel. Booked in here for a stop over on the 26th May while on a motorbike tour of the moors. It's a biker friendly place and the bikes are kept behind a locked gate. Wolfgang, his wife, (apologies but I didn't get her name), Scott and Ariana were the apitome of hosts. Friendly welcome and enjoyed a good chat with their customers. Chef and kitchen staff, (apologies again as I don't know their names) cooked excellent food. German and English food available, all well presented and the taste would grace any top end restaurant. A variety of beers, the ones we tasted were very good. I would highly recommend this place to anyone for a visit or stop over. We have booked in for the German/ English beer festival in August, complete with umpah band.

My husband and I love going to this pub because the food and the service is excellent. You’ll find us on table 4 on a Sunday enjoying a carvery feast. What can I say....6 meats to choose from and everything else help yourself, all cooked to perfection with no soggy vegetables to find here all just fresh and crunchy straight from the pub garden. We also enjoy burger night on a Thursday, the smoked brisket burger with cheese and bacon is a particular favourite, totally delicious but not forgetting the buck burger or the wild boar and chorizo burger. In addition, there is an extensive authentic German menu, the schnitzel is fantastic and has become a new favourite! As I said we love going to this pub and highly recommend! Thanks Wolfgang and the rest of the team, see you tomorrow

Excellent place to call, has 6 to 8 German lagers on tap plus 3 taps of Timothy Taylor's, Sunday dinners very good with everything genuinely fresh , how many places give you properly cooked asparagus with Sun lunch? Remainder of menu has Germanic flavour , all food is excellent. Very popular with walkers and dogs very welcome

We went for a ride out and popped in for lunch.....they had completely sold out of food!! As we arrived a man immediately told us that they had no food (apart from the huge collection of cakes), so we decided to stop for a drink and come up with a plan b. There was a large selection of lagers and 3 beers. I had a nice pint of Timothy Taylor's and my husband had a lager shandy. Although we didn't eat, the welcome was warm, the pub and toilets were spotless and the menu looked very tasty! It would seem that we will have to go back to try the food 😉

Quite unique country pub serving regular British fayre and popular German dishes such as schnitzel, spätzel and strong wheat bier. Very quiet when we visited midweek and food served in a timely manner by friendly staff. Dog friendly and clean toilets too.

This place delivers exactly what it advertises. This is not a posh location but a walkers inn. Muddy boots and dogs are welcome. So with that, do not expect luxury. These are simple accommodations, but it’s clean and comfortable. WiFi in the rooms (or my room) was nonexistent and no cell service, but good service in the bar area. Wolfgang is such a nice man and cares about his guests. FYI, fellow walkers stayed at the Wainstone Hotel and said it was awful and they left as early as they could. Stay at Buck Inn.

We had a very good meal here on a lunchtime. Good quality food, different types of dishes and great service. Set in a beautiful countryside location. Would highly recommend going here.

There is an alternative history in which this country pub with rooms stayed derelict and no one got any delicious beer, or any all meat gluten free and amazing sausages, or rich tasty stews, or a comfy bed after a long walk in the moors. Instead, Wolfgang and Helen arrived having been around the world (including Australia), and made all those good things happen. So, I’m glad we live in this history, recommend you drop into Chop Gate from the moors and dales to enjoy some fine things from Baveria and equally fine things from Yorkshire. They make the day much better.

This is easily one of the best pubs I've ever been to. It's small, quiet, and feels like you're coming home. The selection of beers are great, the food is amazing (I had the burger - highly recommend) but Wolfgang, Helen and Catherine, who run the place are really what makes this place special. Very welcoming, super helpful and lovely to talk to. We camped in the beautiful garden for one night and woke up to have a superb full english breakfast. If you're coming past this way, or deciding on either staying at Kirkby or Chopgate on your Coast to Coast walk, definitely come here, you will not regret it!

What a lovely pub! After 10 miles through the moors and aching ankles, we were so happy to come into Chop Gate and find an open pub still serving food. The lady behind the bar was so friendly, fast service and the food was absolutely GORGEOUS! My partner got the steak and it had the best onion rings I have ever tasted. My salmon was delicious. Conflake cake and Bakewell tart were also the best we have tasted! Will definitely make this a new favourite stop off point on hikes 🩷

Thoroughly enjoyed our meals. Myself a hunter schnitzel and spaetzle and my husband a goats cheese salad followed by german strudel and sticky toffee pudding. Delicious.

Only popped in randomly for a coke on my bike whilst passing as it looked like a nice place to stop. Lovely little pub, and although I didn't eat, I bet the food is lovely....well worth a visit if passing !
