Review Lordstones Cafe - Chop Gate

An absolutely beautiful area with great parking and lovely walks. The views are breath taking from the top over looking roseberry topping. A busy area with loads of walkers. Great parking. It's a must go to area for a nice walk or to stop while doing the Cleveland way.

What an amazing restaurant and food is gorgeous. Service impeccable. Came here for my son's birthday and the staff could not have done more for us if they tried. Superb and definitely recommend

A great location for eating in and walking from. Nice cosy cafe that you can eat under cover outside too, good if you've got dogs. Food was good and not overly priced. I only had a cheese scone and it was delicious!

A perfect place and setting for a lovely day out. Sat outside to eat, lots of space, lovely food and the staff were very friendly. A short walk up through the car park gives you the most amazing views. I highly recommend a visit here

The food here was amazing. The best burgers we've had for a long time and the prices were reasonable compared to restaurants that serve the same quality. A fab end to a lovely walk along the Cleveland way. Definitely worth the visit. Staff were really upbeat too!

This is such a tranquil and perfect place to come for both a walk and bite to eat. We came to the cafe after a lovely walk and the service was excellent. My feta quiche was so creamy and they even brought some extra fries out for our daughter who was pinching mine!

We have just enjoyed a weekend camping within the woodland retreat area, gorgeous set up, very secluded and private and just a short walk to the amenity block. The staff at the cafe/restaurant were amazing, so friendly and went above and beyond each time we stopped by for treats. Julie was just as lovely and again went above and beyond to help us with our queries and offering help and advice for furture visits. The amenity block is small but was well looked after, the block is supposed to be key access only to stop the general public using them, unfortunately, despite many signs and also being asked when given the key to ensure we close the doors, people were leaving them open which meant anyone could use them and ultimately meant they weren't as clean as they would be if they were used correctly. We will definitely stay again and will visit the cafe/restaurant whenever we are in the area. Absolutely stunning location.

We did not stay there, but it is superbly situated. Really friendly team, and the food is hearty and excellent. Highly recommended.

Hikers MUST pre book before 1600. This campsite has luxurious cabins and lovely campsite with grass pitches level and well kept. As we were hiking there is a section for hiking tents. The wash block has a key and coded entry after 1600 hrs. These are spacious and clean, very nice showers. During the day the place is a busy café/ restaurant. This should be a five star site. I think there must be an issue with youths gathering as previous reviews have highlighted, we heard them on bikes, however they did not interact with us or any bother, the previous review made us more sensitive to them. There is meant to be a warden but speaking to other campers had not seen him/ her on site. At 1600 all closes so if hiking coast 2 coast or Cleveland way you are stuffed, it makes it quite clear no camping unless booked signs. We normally. See a sign for a mobile number call at tel xxxxxxxxx. Pitch up and pay morning. Two lads walking C2C tried to camp but had to walk on they looked tired. I suppose no key to wash rooms and most leave before 0900hrs when café opens. Had there been a warden? There is a pot wash room too. So it is great site but let down by youths and no walk in for walkers, but we were charge hiker rates which felt was appropriate.

We had a lovely 2 mile walk with amazing views, saw the Lord Stones and then visited the cafe afterwards. The parking was good and free, the cafe was clean and the food was lovely. Highly recommended.

First visit here to compete in the Ard Moors mountain bike event (which was amazing). Lordstones is set in gorgeous countryside and is simply breathtakingly beautiful. Treat yourself to a stay in this wonderful part of the country. We will definitely be back , but this time to relax , unwind and just take it all in .

Great spot for a drink and food if out on the cleveland way or just the immediate local area. Indoor and outdoor seating options. They do have a break in serving mid afternoon so beware as no signage to indocate this and you may miss out!

Fantastic weekend staying in one of the glamping pods. The pod was very well equipped and spotlessly clean with everything you need for a perfect stay. The staff where very friendly and couldn't do enough for you. Restaurant is highly recommended, steaks cooked to perfection. The views from the Cleveland way are spectacular.

We were out for a drive with an elderly relative who is wheelchair dependent. We called into the restaurant which was fully accessible. The coffee, cake's & service were just what we wanted.

I can’t recommend this place enough. We camped for 2 nights this weekend. They also have round houses and glamping pods if you don’t tent. Reasonable prices, great cafe/pub and shop on site. lots of really nice walks from the site. Facilities are immaculate nice hot showers. Staff couldn’t do enough for us nothing was too much trouble and very friendly and personal service. We will definitely be back again

It's a place to blow the cob webs away and have a walk with amazing views and then end it with a glass and a bite to eat. Steaks are amazing I can honestly say the best I've ever had.

Absolutely fantastic place, we visited for the first time last summer and loved it. I decided to book again in February half term with my two boys and though we had snow we was warm in our little wooden pod and loved every minute!! Very much recommend, beautiful location and fantastic staff

Beautiful setting. I can’t walk far but love to drive here for the scenery and good food. The steak pie melts in your mouth, best I’ve ever had! The staff are welcoming and friendly. Looking forward to going back!

I've eaten in the cafe quite a few times and food has always been lovely, which is why I chose to book for a family birthday on a sunday ( 8 adults and 1 child). The food was again really good and everyone enjoyed it but we were disappointed that there was no children's menu or even ice cream available for dessert???

Lovely spot within easy access of amazing walks with views. The pod was comfortable and we particularly liked the log burning stove. We even brought fairy lights to make it even more cosy at night! We had breakfast at the cafe both days which was delicious. Our only issue was the showers as we found the water sprayed everywhere but on you.

I am fortunate enough to to work here, after a very sad time in my life I came up here and walked, sat pondered and to be honest shed a tear, I then asked if there was any seasonal part time work and got a job. Scenery is magnificent food is beautiful especially the Beef as it's from their own cattle and my colleagues and employers are second to none. I enjoy this new venture in my life.well worth a visit.

Lovely place. We camped with electric hook up and were given a pitch number which was nice to have our own space. It was mixed field with bell tents and yurts but everyone came together as a community. The only down side was the showers, they were through the toilets, while we were there the showers were flooding under the door into the toilet area and the only sinks were the small hand sinks in the toilets. Would have been nice to have sinks in the shower area for teeth bushing etc.

Brilliant time place lovey staff lovely food was out of this world. Will be going back again and would recommend to anybody

The location is stunning.! The pods are really nice in themselves. However the toilet was smelly and the bed and the futon were very uncomfortable as a result I only stayed one of the 2 nights. The log fire was lovely and heated the place really well. The area the pod was in is great and our puppy loved it! We would return but this time to camp as couldn't take another night on that mattress. Also when booking it says to bring bedding which is good but it states there is a kitchenette but not any cups, cutlery etc. Which there isn't! So may be best to state that as it's unclear. Otherwise a beautiful place which seems to be very popular for its cafe.

Just returned home from a 2 night stay in one of the camping pods. Was a lovely birthday/anniversary surprise booked by my husband. We've had the most excellent time and I really cannot recommend staying here enough! Did not want to leave this morning. Thank you for a wonderful experience and best birthday/anniversary ever!

Great place to start on a bracing walk with excellent views. Free car park, nice pub/cafe and gift shop. The prehistoric stones are worth a visit, look out for the labyrinth carving on the biggest rock, possibly Neolithic (not much on the internet about this)
