I visited the busy yesterday for Sunday lunch with my mam who was visiting Cockermouth and my two children. It was busy and not many places doing food, Tim who was front of house was very accommodating and found us a table. My mam is lactose intolerant and vegetarian but they went above and beyond to serve a roast dinner she was able to eat although there was a lot of changes to be made. The food itself was beautiful the meat was tender and the portion size was very generous and extremely well cooked. We all enjoyed it thoroughly and even my two picky eating children. Highly reccomend will definitely be back thank you Tim and Paula for great food and great service!

Friendly pub. Visited twice, Tuesday evening just for drinks and enjoyed lovely pints of Cumberland Cream. Gin n Tonics are priced well for 2 drinks. Returned on Wednesday night for drinks and meal. Ordering around 7pm, several items not available due to demand and their practice of limiting waste. 4 golfers enjoyed 2 x steak pies with mash n chips, 1 x bangers n mash and 1 x Cod n Chips. Mushy peas and gravy were excellent. Would certainly recommend and happily return. Hearty Meals and good beers.

We both had lunch on a Saturday, and came in here because so many places in Cockermouth seemed to be closed. Immediately on entering it had a comfortable, friendly atmosphere and a good choice of drinks, which were very reasonably priced. The menu is varied and looked very good value, but when our food came, it was simply but very well prepared with entirely fresh ingredients and was clearly home made. Lovely juicy cod in a light crispy batter, with chunky home made chips, which were absolutely delicious. Mine was washed down with an excellent pint of Wainrights bitter. Staff were very friendly and welcoming. We will definitely return.

As soon as we walked in, both me and my husband were made to feel very welcome. Great atmosphere and the staff were very friendly. Great pint and the beer battered cod, chips and mushy peas was delicious. Very clean and the toilets were spotless too with lovely added extras like deodorant and hairspray ect, nice added touch. Would definitely return with the children and dog as they are welcome too.

Surprisingly good. Clearly a pub for the locals rather than the tourist trade and quite rough and ready. Not that we weren't made to feel very welcome! We were! and we found the inside very comfortable. Offers a full programme of guest singers, quiz nights, board games and an excellent man creche 😁 Slightly more seriously the beer was good and the food (ordered from the bar) exceptionally so. Pies, burgers, chicken, mash, chips, mushy peas and lots more besides. Very honest food very well cooked, I particularly recommend the steak and ale pie, worth five stars on its own. Main courses averaged around £12 per person. Dogs and children welcome, and if your dog behaves herself she might get a treat. All in all highly recommended.
