Review The Three Chimneys - Colbost

Highly recommend the Kitchen Table experience. An absolute culinary delight. One of the best highlights of our Isle of Skye trip. We shared the chef’s table with two other diners. Top notch service from start to finish. Amazing and hilarious chefs. Every course was spectacular and perfectly presented.

The food is the best we ate on the island for the most part. Excellent association of taste, work on the textures and the flavors. They work with amazing and fresh products. The starters and the desserts were delicious, as well as simple things like the bread. The service as you’d expect it for this price range is flawless. The rooms are nicely and warmly decorated, giving a refined but not overwhelming atmosphere, rightly positioned for the price range. Overall very happy with the experience. As always with restaurants on that price range, understand that the quality cannot follow the price as fast as it increases. But I’d argue that for this price, the quality do follow in comparison to other similar restaurants !

Nice but not quite the experience I was hoping for. When researching our trip to Isle of Skye we heard a great deal about this restaurant in its somewhat remote location so was greatly looking forward to finally being able to visit. We lucked ended up staying 10 min away from the restaurant and secured a reservation the first night. The tables were quite close to each other and having a private conversation became something of a challenge. The set menu offered several choices in each category but, in my view, only one dish - the crab starter - had anything like the wow factor is had been expecting. For the price I was expecting a wow factor but didn’t happen. I can now say that we have been but doubt that will come back just to try the food again.

This is an adventure worth taking. As is obvious from previous posts, the food is impeccable and service even better. Our table had scallops, monk fish, langostine, pork…. I was slightly disappointed with the pork dish and one vegetarian person wasn’t completely content with her plate either. But every seafood dish was wonderful.

I think its the only fine dining restaurant in the area. The atmosphere is superb. Very beautiful and scenic road. The food is all good. Although there are some improvements to some dishes, in my humble opinion. Regardless, the service is great.

We stayed at this beautiful hotel and ate dinner at the restaurant for two nights. The service was absolutely exceptional. They truly catered to our family and we felt so welcomed and comfortable staying here. The food was beyond amazing as well as the wine to pair it with. The marmalade gin martini was a show stopper! They source excellent ingredients to cook with and it shows. I couldn't recommend a better place to stay or eat in the Isle of Skye. It was a wonderful experience. Highly recommend!

The experience I had here was wonderful. To my embarrassment I am a bit of a plain eater and when I only ordered one thing off the menu the staff insisted they feed me properly and asked me what I would like. They made me an off menu dish that was fit for a king the best beef I have ever had, they truely made my day! Thank you to the wait staff and Chef’s :)

My wife and I were blown away by the experience provided here at The Three Chimneys! We had a 3 course meal and not only were the flavors of all ingredients elevated by the chef’s creative abilities, but we also left stuffed! I was worried that the portions would be too small based off photos from other reviewers, however the overall experience was more than sufficient to fill us up. Our Waitress named Neve (The word Eve but with an “N” in front of it) was kind and easy to chat with. She made us feel comfortable after driving an hour through rain and bumpy roads. This place is quite a drive away from many tourist attractions, however it is a place I would not hesitate to recommend.

Three Chimneys lived up to its reputation for exquisite, imaginative food in a lovely setting with warm and well-trained staff. Separate complete vegan menu was deeply appreciated. Windows are not large. The view is mostly seen when you are outside. Drive respectfully on the road. Five of the 11 residents in one enclave have been struck by speeding cars according to a local artisan and victim.

I was incredibly impressed with the four course dinner at The Three Chimneys. Each course has four options to choose from and our four person party basically ordered every course on the menu - the versatility, taste, and presentation was excellent. We added the oysters as a starting course - and our tasting journey began on a high note. Wine pairings were presented with information about the vineyards and selections with an enthusiastic flourish and we left feeling that we had just shared a very special meal that we would not soon forget.

Incredible! Had the chef tasting menu, which is actually inside the kitchen~ very cool! Olivia was so lovely and so good at making everyone laugh and feel at home. I went by myself, so also nice to be sat with a group and get to know some people from all over! Cannot reccomend enough, every course was delicious!

We enjoyed a 4 course dinner at The Three Chimneys and every single dish was perfect. The view, the service and the landscape during the drive were the cherry on the top.

Brace yourself for fine dining at its best. Who would have thought braving the small winding roads, dodging sheep and travelling such a distance would be worth it? Well.... it is. Prepare to have the most amazing and often local ingredients prepared for you. The staff are well trained in the dishes and wine. The chef must be a master in his, or her, field. Wish we could've met that person that put these amazing dishes in front of us. Be warned, the price will make your eyes pop, but when the taste lasts longer than the thought of the price, you know it's amazing. Book ahead!!! Thank you...

I was lucky enough to be given a voucher for my birthday last year and we finally got to use it on Sunday. We have had a lot of guests who have stayed with us who have dined here, and they highly recommended it. It was the first time we had visited a restaurant of this calibre and had visions of coming away still hungry, but believe me, we were not. We were looked after by Luke and Cailey and they were very knowledgeable about what they were serving and readily answered our questions. We were spoilt for choice on what to have. Everything was beautifully presented , tasted divine and I am sure it will not be our last visit.

Lovely restaurant in the quieter reaches of Skye, service was great and the food didn't disappoint. Good wine selection with lots of knowledge.

The Three Chimneys has been on my must visit list for years. Finally we made it to Skye for our 10 year wedding anniversary. We booked the chef's table on Saturday to celebrate. It was such a lovely experience. All the staff were so welcoming. We arrived and had relaxed drinks, meeting our fellow diners. We were then seated in a relaxed nook in the kitchen watching the chef's work their magic. Obviously a fine tuned team because everything was so relaxed and perfectly presented. Each of the courses was stunning. I'm not usually a fan of oysters but I ordered them to try. They were one of the highlights of the whole meal. My favourite was actually the langoustines. Such a delicate flavour but the gentle torching was incredible! I highly recommend the paired wines. I hope I find another opportunity to return. Stunning evening in every way.

It has been a long time between posts due to me spending five weeks basically eating my way around Europe. Let’s just say it is going to take me a good few months to shift the holiday kilos, but so worth it! I am not going to bore you all by blogging about everywhere I went in Europe (and you can check out @foodiemelbourne on Instagram if you would like to see all the amazing food I ate anyway!) but I couldn’t not blog about my incredible foodie experience at Three Chimney’s on the Isle of Skye in Scotland.

Skye also happens to be home to the restaurant, Three Chimneys. About an hour’s drive from the main town of Portree, located on an ocean inlet in a beautiful, white cottage, this restaurant showcases the best of Skye’s produce. It unfortunately lost its Michelin star a few weeks after my visit, but hey, it has five Foodie Melbourne stars in my opinion. This restaurant has been in operation by the same owners since 1985- older than I am, and whilst the owners are not on site anymore they are keenly involved in ensuring the restaurant continues with the ethos and standards they have developed over the last 30 years.

Absolutely incredible evening. We did the Taste of Skye menu on the Kitchen Table, actually in the kitchen. We watched the chefs cook, spoke to them, walked around. It was truly a once in a lifetime experience. The food was simply amazing- it showcased Skye's produce beautifully. Yes it is expensive, and yes a bit out of the way but absolutely worth it as a true foodie heaven experience that you will always remember!
