Nice pub serves a range of beers both on tap and hand pull. We didn't have any food but what I saw looked good. The chairs were a bit uncomfortable for me. The beer was excellent.

We usually pop in the Dog for lunch if we go shopping in Colchester. Food is typical pub fare and prices are about average in my experience. I've always enjoyed my meals there and the food is usually served up quite quickly. There are a good selection of beers including Woodforde's Wherry, London

The Purple Dog is a pretty nice pub. Considering the location it's rather quiet and the staff and locals are lovely. That said, I've only frequented the Purple Dog on the odd occasion, however I've had a good time every time I've been there.

Very nice pub !. It was very busy on our visit . A nice mixed crowd age wise and a nice atmosphere!. Food was nice and not overly expensive .Staff were friendly and polite . Well worth a visit .
Very kind and attentive staff! We had some hard time to find a place for a drink (coming from London) and it seemed like they couldn't give a table for us, but even after rejected, they shouted out for us to come back as a table freed. Bit cold bar but food was excellent and the prices are reasonabl
