We were told by friends this place had just had all their rooms re done so we thought we would give it a try!
Welcomed by a nice member of staff who checked us in promptly, showed us to our room and showed us the amenities.
Room was lovely and warm, clean and presentable, such a fitting decor for where it is placed. We were in one of the rooms that over looks the boats with our own balcony and it was lovely to wake up to the sound of the boat poles clinging and open the doors to pure fresh air.
We went into the pub in the evening and played a couple of games of pool and had a drink, ambience was nice and all staff were approachable and friendly.
We went for a chilled night away, and set ourselves up in the room nice and early with our hot chocolates and snacks that were provided - such a perfect touch!
Slept like a log, the beds are comfy with lovely pillows (unlike some hotels where you might as well sleep on the floor)
The bathroom is one of my favourite parts of this little gem - so modern and stylish with a fab powerful shower!!
We sat in the conservatory part of the pub for breakfast overlooking the boats, whilst waiting for our Full English and Eggs Royale. Breakfast arrived promptly was hot and delicious one of the best Eggs royale I’ve had!
We are usually the type to go and stay in an ultra modern 5* hotel in London, but The Victory is definitely one of my ‘go to’ places to have a night away! Something different with a real lovely cosy feel too it and half of the price of a London room!
We were told by the staff the pub is undergoing a refurb in the new year so we can’t wait to come back and visit once that’s done! However it’s still lovely with or without the refurb!
My second visit to The Victory, this time with the wife and doggy.
We only ate on the pub and haven't stayed in the hotel.
It was a glorious summer's day after a wet fortnight so I thought it would be very busy even on a Wednesday during the school summer holidays but fortunately it was only moderately busy.
The Victory is on the western shore of Mersea Island so away from all the holiday parks and campsites which means the clientele tends to be nicer. This was borne out by the fact that the kids playing on the impressive, big playground structures in the garden area were playing nicely and not being brats.
We sat outside at one of the many bench tables and had lunch. I went for the usual fish and chips and my wife had the Squid starter and sticky toffee pudding with ice cream for desert.
The food was excellent, the fish was clearly freshly cooked to order rather than being one of a batch being kept warm. The fish was tasty and moist and the batter crisp and crunchy. The chips and peas were spot on.
My wife thoroughly enjoyed her food and desert and being a bit of a seafood fiend knows her way around that fayre and said it was lovely.
One thing to point out is that you order at the bar and they bring your food to you but it is cooked fresh to order and they do it properly and not rushed so we were happy to sit in the sun and sip our drinks while we waited the 30 minutes for our first dishes to come out and told them when we were ready for the desert.
If you fast food or food done fast this isht the place for you.
Relax, enjoy the ambience and relish the food.
We went here for a lunchtime meal, having heard that it was in a good spot with lovely views.
The location is pleasant, but it's difficult to see the river once inside, although there are glimpses, if you sit in the right spot.
The staff were pleasant, although there was some confusion over which tables to deliver food to.
There's not much parking space, as half of the frontage is taken up with outdoor seating, although in better weather, I'm sure it'll be nice to sit outside.
The food was OK, but I was disappointed because what I ordered wasn't what I thought I'd ordered - my fault entirely, can't blame the chef for that.
Note to self : chicken scallopini is a deep-fried breaded chicken, not a lovely Italian dish of chicken in a cream and mushroom sauce 🙄
Lovely location and large beer garden which is dog friendly. Expensive food menu though, £16 for a sandwich and a few chips, and the bread wasn't that fresh. Seafood was very expensive which seems silly when there are a number of units opposite selling it fresh for much less cost!
This is an absolutely stunning seaside stay with great modern rooms (including the accessible room where we stayed).
Rooms were clean, comfy and very reasonably priced, and the staff couldn't have been more lovely and accommodating.
We had a wonderful stay and will definitely be both coming back and recommending to our friends
Breakfast was an especial highlight - lovely vegan and veggie options, absolutely delicious!
Addition of a kids playground on site made it a treat for our little one
I booked a table for mother's Day for 7 of us plus our dog. After an initial confusion over our booking, we were shown to our table which was very nice. The staff were very helpful and the food was delicious. Would definitely recommend. Thank you for making our afternoon. We'll be back.
First time I've been here. Purely lived it for the seafood van. Music was food outside too, better atmosphere than it was indoors. IL be going for dinner down there tonight so I might update 😊
Lovely pub stopped for a drink with the dog on a beautiful warm afternoon. Lots of other dogs very dog friendly.
A busy pub with lots of outside and inside space. Pleasant staff even though they were very busy and didn't seem to stop. Also a lovely gentleman was talking about gin and giving free tasters
Good place to visit with lots of outdoor seating for the better weather. Play area for the younger kids. Reasonable disabled access, although entrance via fire door on patio has a small step. One star reduced as is on the higher side of prices but probably no different than a lot of pub prices these days. I find the food is excellent and plentiful. Staff are always friendly and helpful. Can get busy in summer months.
Brilliant pub and staff with good food served . One of our favourite places to come .
Great spot for Lunch, Great weather and entertainer/singer outside was great, food not bad either. Great location
Late lunch with a fantastic plate of fresh sea food (anchovies were perfects)... and a good singer who made us forget the bad weather.
Great location, nice ambience, modern decor. Service would be improved if staff responded to customers rather than talking amongst themselves.
