H Gunton

Little gem which is well known to locals for being a place to be able to source all sorts of food related items which you can't find in regular supermarkets or food shops. Lovely cheeses, jams, fresh produce, freshly ground coffee - the list goes on. Sadly not open for as many days or hours as before the pandemic but still worth checking out. Some things more expensive than elsewhere but for those hard to find goodies, this is the place.

Can't thank Chris and the team enough! We wanted to have a "Cheese" wedding cake and they couldn't do enough for us. Went above and beyond to make sure we had the dream cake we wanted, from how it would look to tasters and all the advice we needed. The cheese itself tasted amazing and at the wedding itself everyone loved it and the look. Chris can't thank you enough for making that part of our day thank you!

I've been shopping at Guntons for many years (at least 9 or 10?), once a week or fortnight, but never left a review, I'm sorry! After Brexit, Guntons is now my 'window' to Europe, just a few minutes away from my home. They have a great selection of French/Swiss/Italian/Spanish (and English!) cheeses, lots of European sweets including my favourite panettones (which are really well priced!), my favourite Ritter Sport chocolates of many flavours, excellent olives, meats, coffees, teas, sauces, pickles... And a lot of great local produce too. The customer service is always 5*. Thanks for being here. I will actually visit you again tomorrow! :-)

Grocery shop as grocers once were, but nowadays are a rarity to find. Stocks an amazing range of products in quite a small space, many of the brands I've not seen elsewhere. H. Gunton has been on-site in Crouch Street for the best part of a century, serving some seriously tasty fare. Passing by on the pavement you cannot miss it, as the store emits the aroma for what it's deservedly renowned, its quality, freshly ground in-house coffee. But, there's so much more inside, from the deli-counter, serving cured meats & bespoke cheeses, & Gunton's sells all sorts of epicure groceries...

Only just found this amazing shop existed recently when looking for speciality teas online. Go to Colchester for big shops quite often but tend to stick to main town centre. Made special trip here on Saturday and was glad I did! Went in for the special teas and came out with cheese, pies and other bits and pieces. Absolute Aladdin's cave. Lovely staff . Will be making it a regular trip and hope to visit tearoom next time. So nice to see shops like this still exist so if you want a different shopping experience definitely pay them a visit.

Amazing quality and service. I have visited and shopped at Gunton for many years. We got married last week and Gunton supplied the three tiers of cheese with a cheddar in a red waxed heart and a large pork pie and chicken pie. Chris spent time helping us choose the right cheeses and sizes. Excellent quality, looked beautiful and the service was reliable. The price was very reasonable. I have never been disappointed by the service or products I have bought from Guntons. The cheese counter and coffee selection is like a magnet for my husband. The shop interior is like stepping back in town. I hope this gem of a shop is here for many years to come.
