Top quality food which was very reasonably priced. The bang bang chicken burger was incredible. By far our best meal in the Lakes so far and definitely the best place to eat in Coniston. Gutted we discovered it on our last day of the holiday!! Thank you so much for such a brilliant dining experience

We love Steam. First visit since they opened up again after covid. They are not licensed, so you take your own alcohol and are only open Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings. Booking is a must. They do alot of vegetarian options and are very good at catering for all intolerances. Two courses for £28.95, three for £32.95 and they charged us £2.50 per person for corkage. Excellent value for money. Food and service is second to none.

Amazing food!!! Chris was welcoming and attentive giving recommendations off the menu but I suspect it was all amazing. Thoroughly enjoyed all our choices-the beef was so succulent. Don’t miss out and make sure you book.

I can keep this review short... The best 3 course meal I have eaten (and I eat out a lot) in the UK for as long as I can remember!!! The decor, ambience and service was first class too.

The people running the Steam are the loveliest people - so friendly and accommodating. Even though we only stopped for coffee and a yummy caramel shortbread they couldn't have done more to make our visit so enjoyable whilst dealing with a technical hitch with the Internet connection. Lovely surroundings with a great sounding menu. Highly recommend.

Amazing food and service! We popped into steam not long before they where due to be closing for the day and the staff where amazing and welcoming. The chef brought the food out to the table himself and you could tell that he was really proud of the food that he produced, which shows a lot. A great restaurant and team!!

Absolutely amazing food! Such a nice chill vibe and really nice pleasant staff. Best meal we’ve had out in a long, long time and everything is so reasonably priced too. Our new fav restaurant! Blown away. Props to the chef what a queen.

The best vegetarian cafe we've been to.
There was so much choice on the menu and the staff were all nice.
Not dog friendly but you can sit on the front.
We enjoyed it that much we went back again.

We booked in for Saturday evening some time ago based on the reviews here. It looked like the best place to eat in Coniston. We were greeeted by the owner and given our choice of table. The place is relaxed and tastefully decorated. The locals obviously love it as he greated many returning customers.
We were a little surprised when it took over an hour and a half to get our starter. The owner explained later in the evening that he had staffing problems. There were just 3 of them coping with a full restaurant! To their absolute credit, the food did not suffer. I had the lamb kleftico, which I have had many times in Greece. Never have I had one so good. Words could not do it justice.
You can take your own wine, which is charged at £3 per head and pleasingly, they bring water for the table without asking.
I tried to book again for Thursday and was genuinely gutted to find it wasn't open. I hope he gets the staffing issue sorted and continues to be a roaring success. The 3 people tonight have worked their socks off !

Absolutely amazing food & service. Lovely change from the “pub grub” we’ve been having. Will definitely be back!

Absolutely amazing dinner! Everything was delicious and we wanted to eat everything off of the menu!
The team where short staffed on the night we went and still made the experience amazing and catered to everything we needed

Great service, great location , great host, feel bad but a bit of constructive criticism , had the breakfast and the beans need to be simply Heinz and not mixed beans like kidney and butter beans, the sausage is just too herby which takes over the whole plate as the predominant flavour, coffees were great .

What a fabulous place! Visited the restaurant in mid March 2023 with two friends, who had been to Steam Bistro previously & were very keen to take us there. The food is out of this world - just amazing. We each had three courses & there was plenty of food. No only were the flavours incredible, but the presentation was gorgeous. The service was faultless with the owner being so friendly. The prices are incredibly reasonable. If you want go, you won't regret it - but book well in advance as it's super popular. To give some context, a couple of weeks after our visit we dined at Gordon Ramsey's Riverside Restaurant in the Savoy - the food in the Steam Bistro in every way blew the Riverside Restaurant into the weeds.

A wonderfully unique menu, a wide range of choices all sourced locally. Very friendly staff and a relaxed atmosphere. Book ahead as they are very busy.

We were lucky to get in here after a cancellation because it's defo the place to eat if you want something special in Coniston. By the way, did I mention you need to bring your own alcohol? Well you do. Having arrived ahead of time we were shown to our table, cozy in the corner with cool lighting, but told it'd take a few minutes to get the menu. Ok we thought, but then the menus came and after another 5 minutes we were ready to order... but were told we had to wait another couple of minutes. In fairness there was a table of eight and a table of five ahead of us, so maybe that was why. When it did connect, however, we were served a couple of fab starters (see pics) and that started the meal! My wife really loved her chicken dish and for me the sausages n mash were the best! Follow that up with a fabulous Eton Mess and you've got yourself a fabulous meal! Highly recommended - but be sure to book ahead of time!!
