What a great place. Looked after superbly by Ashley and his team. Food simply stunning and a credit to the chef. 100% the best restaurant I have eaten in for some time. An highly recommend the chorizo scotch egg and the bass main. Having the jus served at the table added to both the flavour of the dish and overall service
Any restaurant that can serve a perfect coffee to finish and the best chocolate fondant will always be a winner for me. Looking forward to going back and bringing others with me. Thank you. A great find and worth the drive over the M4
This is a true gem, outstanding food and attentive staff make this a pub/restaurant a truly special place to visit. Rooms are very well equipped and the roll top bath was a lovely addition to an already tastefully decorated bathroom. We will definitely be back and will recommend to family and friends. Well done Managers and staff
Myself and my friend came here for dinner, and overall enjoyed ourselves but found the service hugely lacking.
The food was absolutely delicious, although the vegan meal my friend had seemed very small compared to my meal. The desserts were to die for! Great wine/drinks selection.
However, we felt very let down by the service. On arrival, there was no warm greeting from staff. Following this we were put on a corner table in one of the back restaurant rooms, which was a beautiful room but as we were behind a wall it felt that we were largely forgotten about throughout our meal.
It took a while for drinks orders to be taken (in the end we just ordered everything at once), and then the water we requested didn't come with the drinks, so we had to ask for it when our meals arrived.
We asked for the bill, after trying to catch the attention of staff for quite a while to no avail, and then the bill still didn't come. Although they had time to stand and chat. So after sitting and waiting again we ended up going to find staff at the tills.
The Methuen is great, and the food is always delicious. But this time the service just made the experience much less 'wow' and a bit more cold.
Our visit on Friday 3rd November 2023 was for a family birthday lunch. A difficult journey from Essex on the day meant that we had to re-arrange our booked time. This the hotel did very smoothly and we were able to enjoy an excellent lunch. The dining room was uncramped and the staff were friendly - providing a smiley but unobtrusive service. We will be back.
Went for dinner (didn’t stay) and I have to say the food is incredible. Opted for the sirloin steak with peppercorn course and it was cooked to perfection. I will certainly be returning. Our waitress was very kind, welcoming and knowledgeable about the menu - I’d like to pass on my gratitude to her. The decor inside is very tasteful and a lovely place to simply sit and relax inside.
We live locally and came for a meal and drinks so can’t comment on the rooms. The food was amazing, service was excellent, and a friendly, welcoming atmosphere. Our first time eating at The Met but we will definitely return.
Excellent evening, all the staff were very accommodating. The evening meal was beautiful and the best mussels I have had in a long time. We had to leave early (prior to breakfast) and was most impressed with the breakfast take out bag provided. Will not hesitate staying again, thank you
We celebrated our dads 60th birthday, booking out the scully room.
From start to finish the service was on point, helpful and very accommodating.
All the food was fresh, hot and beautiful. We had a party of 23 and everyone thought it was brilliant too. Highly recommended. Thank you.
My family and I visited the Methuen Arms for dinner and drinks last night. We weren’t sure what to expect, but we were so pleasantly surprised to discover a beautiful garden and multiple different sitting areas! There were blankets available for those who wanted to cozy up, and there was plenty of space for my infant son to stretch out and admire the trees and flowers. The wine list is fantastic and we had great cocktails (2 for £15 from 5-7pm!). I only wish the starters had come with more food — the trout and the broccoli appetizers were super delicious and I was craving more! Overall a great time and well worth a visit if you’re in the area.
Excellent food and service in a hotel that still manages to have a traditional pub atmosphere. Room was good, and the welcome gifts made a positive impression. We were initially a bit worried about the Friday night drinkers noise, but it was very quiet from 11 and we got a good night's sleep.
My Wife and I went for Sunday dinner at the Metheun Arms. It was simple perfect the staff without exception were so polite and professional. The food was fantastic very tasty , it was a really good portion and cooked to a Tee. We will of course be going back very soon. Thank you all
Spent a weekend with our little dog and we had such a lovely time. Staff are so friendly and helpful and the restaurant was glorious!
There's also a huge park/woodland/field with lots of dog walkers right next to the hotel which means if you're looking for a quick run around for your dog, it's super easy.
