Originally gave 4 stars, but can't remember why. Foods always lovely, staff always friendly. Cheap, good portion sizes. Rarely seems to be many people inside, seem to mostly do takeaway, but definitely the best in the area for Indian.

We eat here once a week without fail as it’s our absolute favourite Indian restaurant hands down and we’ve eaten at most, in and around the Croydon area.
The food and service is exceptional every time. Banquet night on a Wednesday is amazing value for money at only £11.95 per person !!!

Wonderful evening out with the family again. We travel quite a distance to come here as the food is out of this world and the hospitality is so welcoming and pleasant. They went out of their way to create a booking for us and we were not disappointed. Please bring cash or use the cash machine in the nearby petrol station. I use a tastecard and always leave a tip as the food is wonderful and the service just right. It would seem rude to get such magic at the price quoted.

Enjoyable curry evening with friends.
Not perfect, but overall more than acceptable. Will likely revisit at some point soon.
The place is wheelchair accessible, but the toilets are not.

Amera Rani is a little treasure in a very unexpected location in South Croydon. I have now been a number of times with friends and family and have recommended it to most people I know; I'm delighted when they feed back to me that they agree!
These guys have got it spot on! The food is superb and the service is excellent. Keep up the good work.

A great place to eat, the service was brilliant and the food was of top quality. The prices were very reasonable, my partner and I were able to dine on 3 starters, 3 drinks, 2 mains and a naan, all for under £50. The atmosphere was quiet and pleasant, perhaps some more upbeat music would of been better but otherwise a lovely evening.

Best curry I've ever had
Afghani Lamb Shank. Meat fell of the bone, incredibly tender. Curry was not overly oily, lots of finely chopped onions herbs etc that hits the balance between a smooth paste and large chunks.
Flavour was beautiful with a nice spice that was not overpowering.
Would highly recommend

AVOID dont go, terrible. Came 28th Febuary 2014 Friday eve
I went here with a group of friends with high expectations seeing as the reviews are all good. We used a taste card
First we walked in at 6pm and all the tables were reserved.
We sat on a table for 5 people, 1 friend unable to attend- after 15 minutes told to move seats, very rude (the restaurant was empty all evening till 7.30pm) so there was absolutely no need to move us!

We saw the menu, the prices for mains are expensive compared to other Indian restaurants, we thought ok so the prices are expensive the food must be amazing, here I am comparing the food to Benares in Mayfair- (on the website they mention Michelin)

1)We ordered drinks, my friend ordered a mango lassi, it was tasteless and just water with yellow liquid, it was the worst mango lassi.

2) I went to the loo, this was clean, nice toilet paper, folded, well presented, whilst washing my hands I could see a man wearing a grey jumper staring at me from the mirror reflection, made me feel very uncomfortable.

3) We ordered food, I ordered saag panner( very spicy) 1 chappatti, my friend ordered chicken curry, other friend ordered rice and lamb.

4) The food came, the plates small compared to every other Indian restaurant, the chappatti was pathetic, it was the same size as my two palms placed together, I called the waiter and complained and said what is this? He said he can get me another one, I said no, take this back and I will have a naan, he was rude and didn’t listen to me. I then said leave the naan after 30 seconds, then the waiter said no, u have to have it now its in the oven and WALKED OFF..... my friends were dumb struck by this behaviour.

5) We all called the waiter and said there is no spice in the food despite asking for very spicy food! We asked for spicy sauce, the waiter brought a dish of curry sauce, we said we asked for spicy sauce, the waiter walked off

6) The food was awful, went cold straight away which meant its not FRESH, its just been defrosted and warmed up in the microwave, the naan was not freshly made, its been defrosted, there is no way a naan can cook in under 30 seconds.

7) At the end we called the manager, who wouldn’t listen to us, we told him about the man watching from the bathroom door looking in at us with the mirror reflection.
He said I will knock off £3. I wish we all walked out.

No spice in the food, very bland, no mango lassi, chapatti too small, it tasted just like flour, waiter did not listen to us, we were moved from seat to seat, each table had reserved on, even though the restaurant was empty from 6pm till 7pm.

AT THE END- waiter gave us our coats back which were FREEZING! In addition it was generally cold in the room, we saw a tiny heater on the floor, bit pathetic

As we were paying a car pulled up and 4-5 people were unloading their car walking through the small room back and fourth, putting away salad (looked like Costco salad)

They should use the room at the back of the restaurant

THE WORST RESTURANT EVER! I am south asian and I cook Indian food, my friends are mixed races, we all know what Indian food is, this was an insult to Indian food.

ps..Price for 1 samosa unacceptable

Great Find. As an great lover of Indian food along with my friends, we were getting bored of the 'same old Indian' food that we came across in every Indian restaurant we ate at and we desperately looked for something to revitalise our taste and just a departure from our Indian normal meals. Luckily we stumbled upon Amera Rani it completely changed my view of Indian food and just added further to my love for Indian food and a plus is that its all very reasonably priced.
