Tokyo Syokudo

Seriously how is this restaurant hiding in Croydon? It is local to me so it feels like a great gift. Authentic, high quality Japanese food that is hard to find in the run of the mill food places. The food preparation, presentation and flavours are excellent. No need to travel into the city or over the Bridge, this place is great.

Don't eat here if you expect value for money. The food tastes nice enough, very standard, but the portion sizes are about 60-80% of a normal Japanese restaurant, and they left out one of the sides. When we asked the manager about the portion size, he very patronisingly said that the serves had always been like that and pointed out the prices of the raw ingredients as an explanation. Ok, I can understand that the raw ingredients are expensive, but other restaurants seem to manage just fine. We were very disappointed and won't buy from here again.

Name has been changed to Ronin. Very basic interior and menu. Forget the starters. $8 for 1/2 a bowl of edamame and the same price for over fried lotus chips is a rort IMO. The waitress suggested salmon spring rolls; she should stop doing this. The Udon broth the we had was very salty. We also had the Pork Katsu which was fine. The 2 people working were very friendly and BYO is always a good thing.

Went for dinner tonight, it was freezing cold in the restaurant as a bunch of drunken diners insisted the front door remain open. As stated it was freezing cold inside the restaurant and the management let the drunks have their way at the expense of the other diners. I was a regular customer but I will NEVER go there again.
