Passed by a number of times and always wondered what was like. Went for a meal and was treated to friendly staff, reasonably priced and tasty food. Lovely experience in great surroundings. Not average pub grub like I had expected.

Cozy little gem with warm/kind staff, clean accommodations, delicious pub fare, and surprisingly good breakfast and coffee. I can’t recommend this enough as a reasonable accommodation just outside the city and/or a great meal anytime of day. Thank you all for a wonderful stay!

Popped in for dinner on the way back to the city, no booking but staff were very accomodating considering we also had a young child. Lovely decor, good meals and friendly staff. Was nice to eat a decent pie!

I am just home from here. My friend and I went out for dinner. Our meals were very nice. The staff were amazing, so professional yet so friendly and wee happy to have a wee chat while serving. It was a young man and a young lady, who said this was their first time running the restaurant on their own. They did so well, if they had not mentioned this I would never have known, such was their professional manner. To who ever is in charge, hold on to them, they are credit.

I Stayed at the Sun Inn weekend 28/29 October as i was working in Edinburgh. What a great place, fantastic staff, very welcoming and friendly and the lovely room and the fabulous food, evening dinner and breakfast. The Sun Inn is about 20 minutes from the centre of Edinburgh, safe parking overnight and makes a very good base. If i am working again in Edinburgh i will use the the Sun Inn again. Many thanks.

Lovely inn! My husband and I stayed here one night on our way into Edinburgh. It was a lovely spot with a wonderful outdoor patio for drinks (and food from their restaurant). I wish I knew the name of the staff member that served us at breakfast, but he was so sweet and wonderful and we super appreciated him. Also loved the fun woodland creature wallpaper throughout the inn!

Didn't stay over so can't comment on rooms. However regularly go here for lunch or coffee. Very dog friendly and staff can't do enough to help. Brilliant

I got ready at The Sun Inn for my wedding and the staff were super helpful - accommodating us in every way possible. Super comfortable room and delicious food all round. Highly recommend - especially for anyone getting married in Dalkeith!

Last Friday 5 May 2023 my friend Carol and I held a Ladies Night at The Sun Inn for my late daughter’s Legacy Fund. It was arranged with the Manager Jill who advised the best courses to have for a large number and we decided to have a 2 course sit down meal for 91 ladies with a glass of fizz. The meal was absolutely delicious with everyone commenting on it. The staff were so helpful and delightful. We had such a fun night and we can’t thank you all enough for such a wonderful evening. This wasn't my first trip to the Sun Inn, but it was a wee bit disappointing in comparison to previous visits. We chose to sit outside as it was a warm summer day, but the outdoor seating options were all a bit run down. The large tables and benches are falling apart a bit and there's mould and fungi growing from the tables. The smaller tables were all a bit shakey and unsteady. But we persevered and ordered lunch. I had the goats cheese salad which was beautifully presented and nicely balanced, my mum had the Cullen skink scotch egg, which I tasted, was very delicious, and, again, beautifully presented. For mains I had the cod with mash and green beans. This fell a bit flat for me, underseasoned mash and overcooked fish, visually just OK, overall a wee bit dry unfortunately. My mum had a burger which she said was "fine". I'm sure I'll be back again as it's a great wee local spot, and there's plenty more to try on the menu.

I've been going to the Sun Inn for years and as usual the food was perfect and it's a really nice location to go for breakfast on the weekend which is what I went for. Unfortunately, the last few times I've been I've noticed the service hasn't been great and this time was the worst. I met the rest of my table for 10.30, we had booked a so were seated quickly and brought our drinks fast but had 3 separate members of staff come to take our order which in hind sight was like a bad omen for the meal and made it seem like there was maybe a lack or communication or organisation but not a big deal. However after receiving our teas and drinks immediately we were left and didn't see any staff for over and hour. During this time it was a little busy but nothing more than I have seen in the past. It was 11.50 by the time our breakfast was brought out with no word from any of the wait staff. Luckily we weren't in too much of a rush and were happy to have a chat but by the time our food came all of our drinks were finished so we had to then order more. As mentioned, the food is lovely but it was practically lunchtime by the time it came out! We also ordered a few traybake/brownie type things which I feel could have benefitted from being under some kind of cover as even though they were tasty, they were all kind of dry from being left open on the bar- some signs or labels as to what each of the items was would be nice too to make it easier to order- I have allergies so had to go through each thing with the staff to find out what was in them. The scones were delicious however, the clotted cream it came with had split but was hastily replaced with some butter so not too bad. The only other thing was for the first time, the car park was full so we had to park in the over flow area which is not signposted well at all and quite confusing and looks like an old scrapyard which we were a little concerned about when leaving the car. Overall, not my best experience here but I'll probably give it another go! I understand bad/ busy days and on the whole it was delicious good and we weren't in so much of a rush that the lateness affected our day but its somethingto bear in mind if you are going. Hopefully things are better next time!

Had a 3 day stay here and loved it. The staff were very freindly and accomodating, room was spotless and cleaned every day, food was amazing and huge portions (especially the breakfasts). Plenty of parking spaces. The bus stop to get into Edinburgh was 5mins walk from the hotel and cost £2 for a single ticket (50 minute trip) or £5 for a day ticket to travel as much as you want. Only down side, it was on a very busy noisy road. It was still worth the visit though.

Went for afternoon lunch, service was great and food was very nice and well presented. Good amount of parking and the view from my table was off lothian viaducts/ Bridge. I would certainly recommend visiting and having a meal, there is also a caravan park opposite under the viaducts.
