Cannot fault the food or the service. Although it's a little more expensive than other restaurants in the area, it is absolutely worth it. We had the sharing platter with 2 extra sides between 3 of us, and we couldn't finish it! Really tasty. Staff were friendly and great with my little boy too. Atmosphere was welcoming and family friendly.
For Business travellers:
This is a lovely place which offers good value for money. The room I stayed in was a good size, very clean and had good facilities. It was nice to use a key rather than a magnetic key fob! However I recommend the hotel install a light outside the door so you can see the key hole when it's dark.
The restaurant/bar is decent with nice decor and good facilities to watch sport. The menu is okay and the food comes in good sized portions.
The bed was comfy but I was too easily able to hear the footsteps of the room above me which was probably the only drawback.
Overall a solid 4/5.
After a very long drive in the dark with mist and rain finally arriving at the Chequers Hotel, which was all lit up, was a great relief. Charlotte, part of the family that owns the hotel, greeted me warmly and even though I had arrived too late for the restaurant still be open Charlotte was more than happy to make me a homemade sandwich if I wished. After checking in the room was a lovely surprise. Very clean and nicely laid out. The bathroom was particularly nice. Breakfast was made to order which I cannot afford. Just a shame that I was only there for such a short period of time. Will definitely be going back
Food was very nice, with very large portion sizes for a good price. Was quiet when we arrived, but we were there early for dinner. Service was good, waitress was attentive but not overly so. Would definitely visit again.

The drinks are very expensive. The service and food were great however we did have issues with the fact that we had booked a sit down meal for our Christmas do, we ended up getting a bavarian buffet with numerous other parties there. The music was far too loud, the band at the end were really good, however due to this we couldn't hear each other for the entire evening instead of just the end with the band. I would go again as the staff were lovely but only for a meal in the restaurant which is what we wanted in the first place.
Changed hands recently but food fabulous. Steak was cooked perfectly, plenty of side dishes to choose from. Dessert beautiful. Service was excellent can't fault it. Well recommended.
Fantastic food, great service and superb atmosphere. Chains like Cau or smokeworks are nothing special comparing to this Steakhouse. Great selection of drinks and steak size, quality and taste -amazing. Be prepared to eat a lot as steaks start at 350 gr. Sides are free (2) and good size and very fresh and tasty. Seriosly you have to visit this place ! Thank you for amazing experience!
This is a little gem of a place . Freindly staff and attention. It's 20 mins from Cartmel too. Great food and I mean really tastie. Not very expensive. Drinks again very reasonable. Parking is ample and free. Breakfast was good not a hughe choice but all branded cereals and full English. The teal bonus was I paid £50 for a very large double room.
Just returned from a relaxing weekend away follwing a family Breavment amd what can I say...absolutlry excellent service from arriving to leaving. The politeness of the staff was fantastic and they couldnt do enough for you
The food was amazing and when served very hot. The rooms are very high stamdard amd plenty of room for a couple.
Gavin the Manager on Duty was very accimadating and knowledgable and always went out of his way to help customers. Access for disabled and spacious enough inside fir wheels chair access.
Overall money very well spent and are alreafy omce i know rota looking at going back in November.

Friendly helpful staff and the best steak I’ve had that I can remember... and I have had a lot of steak! 😜 would have been an easy 5 star if only they aired the room a bit. Clean, tidy, comfortable, just a bit musty. Open a window, stick a plugin in.. 😜 Staff were great, the reviews who say otherwise are either wrong, or it wasnt the staff I met who were genuinley exceptional. Really made an effort. I dont usually bother to reveiw but they made it worth the effort.

Food is excellent, the staff are very welcoming, friendly and helpful. The rooms are well presented and tidy and there is plenty of parking on site, ideal location for a walking holiday, not far from Lake Windermere and only 10 mins from Barrow town centre
This is a Great place to eat. The staff are attentive, good excellent. It is not a Victorian mansion but a school that was last used I the 1970s. It is well decorated and well presented. Well recommended.
