Great pub, warm welcome from all the staff and excellent, homemade food. 4 of us had the coffee and Guinness braised brisket burger, buttermilk chicken burger, veggie burger and a steak baguette with sweet potato fries. All burgers packed with flavour and really delicious. 😋 Generous portions of chips, which is always a bonus. The steak baguette was filled with garlic alioli and gherkins, and the sweet potato fries are yummy. 😋 Dessert was apple and cinnamon crumble with creamy custard. A big, warm hug of a dessert. 🤗 The Bailey's cheesecake actually tasted of it and was both generous and creamy. Oh, and you must finish with a coffee as the homemade cinnamon shortbread that comes with it are divine. They should be sold in bags. 😄 😁 A really lovely afternoon and will definitely be back soon. ❤️ 💙 💜 💖 💗

Some good food and beer yesterday at the Royal followed by some nice walking. Excellent sirloin steak off the specials board (well cooked and a good peice of meat) - my son had the pulled brisket burger which was so large he could not finish it. The beer is certainly well looked after and was delicious - it is a free house so had some interesting beers on offer. My first visit and there are two parts to the establishment plus a large outdoor seating area - the old pub which is quite dark but full of old world charm and the new extension which is light and airy. Because the weather was lovely we chose outside where we had excellent table service with plenty of staff to look after you. We will return!

Called in here for breakfast before walking up to jubilee Tower. The service was excellent, the staff are very friendly and helpful and the breakfast was excellent, along with a very reasonable price. Will definitely be going back for more. Forgot to mention the Great outdoor seating area if you're out with the dog 🐕

Absolutely brilliant cafe cross gastro pub out, isolated out in the heart of the jaw dropping, unbelievably scenic west Pennines. Brilliant menu. Reasonable prices. Very cosy, also modern. Good service, extremely popular. Loads of walkers and nature/wildlife photography everywhere. Highly recommend.

This pub has two Wonderfull welcoming hosts and are so passionate about their restaurant/pub. We were so happy to stay in our camper van on the car park. We had a fantastic meal and didn’t need to book. The atmosphere was so warm A real credit to the owners. Well done Mike & Pauline

Recently renovated with a massive extension on the side, pity they didn't smarten up the old part at the same time. However, they've erected a large temporary marquee on the outdoor seating area, which has also been renovated and enlarged, and is great for an afternoon snack after a walk around the Reservoir or Darwen Tower. Great pizza and fish and chips with mushy peas, especially at only £8. Great tasting coffee. Called again today and had a lovely egg mayonnaise barm and tuna barm, lots of filling with fresh salad and crisps on the side.

Great little pub with great staff and great food. In the middle of nowhere you would expect high prices, definitely not the case. They have a large beer garden for summer months and the waitresses do table service. And they accept dogs, absolutely amazing place

Great for a beer and some food in the sunshine. Plenty on the menu to go at and at a reasonable price. Great range of beers and wines for all tastes.
