Superb food and fantastic service. I took my husband here on Boxing Day as a birthday surprise and I am so pleased that I did. A big thank you to the staff for a wonderful meal.
Went for my birthday. If you like fine dining this is well worth a visit. I'm new to Derby but this is my favourite place so far. Love the upstairs seating set in a old Chapel. Unique.
Went here out of chance, looks a bit too posh for us but we took the chance. The venue itself looks beautiful, old fashioned with a modern touch, we were greeted well, waited downstairs had drinks then given menus. The choice on the menu is not very varied but was fine. We were then taken upstairs to our table, was fine no issues and good view. The cod cheeks were a real favourite. The food was lovely and the waiter was fine too. No issues at all price was very reasonable, overall great experience well done. Just one issue its hidden away so getting to it is not the easiest.
Having dined here many times due to the service, food and atmosphere I was surprised to see some of the negative remarks so made the effort to see what all the fuss was about. As I guessed it was nothing to worry about, let’s face it who would book a meal and not get any confirmation or even call themselves before turning up....... Anyway food spot on and service perfect even though they were full so glad people didn’t shy away due to some negative reviews. My view is until you try something yourself it may or maybe not be for you. The staff work ultra hard especially how the restaurant is laid out. Looking forward to our next visit
Given the prices, this is a fantastic bargain. The 3-course Xmas menu was something like £32, which is just ridiculously good value. The food is good (not great), very well presented and the venue is beautiful and interesting. The staff are friendly and keen but quite inexperienced. In fairness, given the odd (and lovely) layout it's very hard for them to keep an eye on everyone's glasses/plates so be prepared to be a little patient. Worth supporting, I'm sure it will improve and the city dearly needs a good restaurant or two.
I never ate out and ordered a burger until I visited Hide Burger Bar... the burgers are delicious, exciting and always have lots of choice. The setting is chilled with a funky vibe and the customer service is outstanding. The location is perfect for either a quick snack on your way home from shopping or a planned night out with friends or family. I have been well and truly converted and would highly recommend to everyone!
Eaten at Massa twice now and I look forward to going again. The venue is very quirky and cleverly designed. The menu remains selective and uncluttered. The food, both visits, has been excellent; well cooked, full of flavour and beautifully presented. The service is very good and attentive. We were remembered from our first visit and welcomed back on our second visit. Nice touch. A lovely restaurant to seek out if you are in Derby.
Have been for dinner and to a wedding here. First and foremost the food is good, and the conversion of the chapel to a restaurant makes for a really interesting setting, and one that provides a pleasant environment both to dine upstairs and in the bar downstairs.
However, the staff let it down. Firstly the wedding was at 2.30pm, and Masa did not open up until 2.10pm on a bitterly cold December afternoon. This may change as the registrar mentioned that this is not acceptable practice for a licenced wedding venue.
The woman who did finally open up and was in charge is hardly the friendly front of house face that makes you want to come back and book again, and the service is not quite slow, but certainly isn't efficient. This maybe due to the restrictions of movement caused by the layout upstairs, but if you're not in a rush, it's just about bearable.
However, service at the bar was excrutiatingly slow. For a wedding of 75 people they started with one person behind the bar, and then later added a second. This made things slightly better, but if this was a pub I'd have gone elsewhere.
The service/staff issues are a shame as this could be a really good restaurant. The food is very good, and prices are high end for Derby, but if the service matched the food, it would be good value. Derby needs a good restaurant of this type and this could be it with just a few simple improvements.
I was there on a Christmas night out with my husband's business. We had a meal, I'm a vegan so the menu was done accordingly. It was a wonderful meal however the portions are rather small. Wine and coffee are good choices.
Me an my wife went to masa for the first time last night, I have to say it was absolutely brilliant, by far the best meal I have had in derby. The service the presentation was all spot on. We will definitely be going back an recommending it to friends an family.
WOW!!!!!!!!!
Well we found Masa through a panic for a relocation of our wedding in 2014 with only 6 months to go after our venue just shut their doors and we were a bit on the nervous side to say the least with recently being let down but we neednt have worried. From the planning to choosing to the final bits and then the day -WOW!!!!!!!! Everything was perfect. Food amazing and surprisingly filling, staff fantastic, venue amazing. Evening food just as good as the day time food couldnt have wished for a better venue for our big day - a definate must use for a wedding!!!!!!!!! You wont be dissapointed
We visited Masa for the first time this evening to celebrate our anniversary and honestly cannot think of a negative comment. Absolutely divine food....haven't "hmmm'd, aaaah'd and ooooh'd" so much in one sitting I don't think. Exceptionally attentive service but not "in your face" and we were made to feel welcome and relaxed from our arrival. A lovely complimentary touch added to the end of our meal also. We will definitely return....soon. Thank you
Masa is my favourite restaurant in Derby. I go for every special occasion! Their base menu is great and they hold monthly, themed meals (Disney, Star Wars, Alice in wonderland etc) that are incredibly creative and a wonderful treat if you A) like good food or B) are a fan of the subject matter. Check it out!
Went to Masa for father's day and it was absolutely brilliant. The service, the food and the atmosphere was first class. Reasonably priced as well especially for the food that was on offer. Will definitely be going back!
most gorgeous place, lovely atmosphere, delicious food, great wine menu . Great service from all staff. Would highly recommend. We will most definitely be returning here soon.
