Visited 2nd October 2023 late afternoon. Back street pub in the heart of Derby's West End, surrounded by flats and houses. Looks a little rough from the outside and the inside is perhaps a bit tired; however, it's perfectly clean as were the toilets with toilet roll, hot water and working hand dryers....it's sometimes those small things that mean the most. Fairly typical range of big brand lagers, cider and spirits on offer, including drinks offers, also 3 cask beers on our visit which seemed well kept and drank well. Staff were friendly and helpful as were the other customers. Pool table in the back room and there's a decent beer garden to the side, live music is on every/most Saturdays. A classic example of why you shouldn't judge a book by its cover.

Great pub and great atmosphere and was made really welcome but music was just a bit too loud for me had to shout to each other to have a conversation if music was more background music it would be brilliant but thats only cos have tinitus, it is a brilliant and very popular place so go and support a great little local pub

Used to come here years ago when my dad was the entertainer. Obviously under new management now who has kept the place pretty much the same as it was all those years ago in very good condition. We came here for my dad's wake it was like stepping back in time had a wonderful afternoon sharing old memories on what was a very special place to the whole family. Thank you for such great hospitality and making a very sad day for us all. The place is very quaint, quiet. Doesn't have car parking but no drink driving. Difficult entry for wheelchair users but it can be done. Would recommend.

Have been coming in here for best part of 50yrs . Always a good night , Saturday, free music . Current manager/landlord + staff seem to be carrying on from their predecessors , always very pleasant and do their job with a smile . Good selection of well kept beer , what more can you want .🙂🍺.

Nice little out of the way pub, staff friendly. Only issue I had was they didn't sell popular brands of whiskey and others were quite pricey ( even bar staff agreed)

Pub has really improved since I first visited. Think it has changed hands since then and the new landlord really knows what he's doing, got some good plans for the place too. Very much a locals pub but really not a bad thing in this instance, very welcoming

Although the pub doesn't look like much from the outside, it packs a big punch inside. Good choice of lagers, although a little bit lacking in real ale choices. Usually have a Dancing duck guest ale. The best thing is the live music gigs on nearly every Friday and Saturday night. More Derby puns should support both live music and local artists. Big up to the Horse and groom
