Review Oakwood Restaurant - Dochgarroch

Wow! Good food. All home cooked style with really fresh ingredients. Good place to enjoy a country style Scottish meal. A good find on a relatively desolate road running along Loch Ness. Can get crowded especially during the tourist season as they are right next to a tour facility down the road.

Exclusive dinning when they only book up to 8 dinners at a time and 4 of us took the whole table, it was luxury. Food were great too without being over priced. Run by a lovely husband and wife team. It is a real hidden gem. Canal view was fab, watching joggers struggle pass while we stuffed ourselves with no guilt!

Great olé place on the side of the road serving authentic dishes. Had the venison as well as the salmon soup and my partner had a bean soup. Ordered the mushroom appetizer which was delish. Food was priced right and if I may say it was the best venison I have had. Portions are pretty big so make sure you bring yer appetite or take it away with you. No gainy taste associated with venison, you could have passed it for beef. Highly recommend Oakwood.

With only one big table to welcome guests, this boat restaurant (and hotel) must be a well kept secret. We came across it on our way to NC500 and we've so happy we did. The food was excellent (possibly the best Salmon Chowder ever?) and onwers were very welcoming. I'm sure on the 3 days when it doesn't rain in Scotland you'll be able to sit outside and enjoy the beautiful canal view. You can even bring your own wine, what more can you ask for?

Lovely meal. Friendly hosts. A little out of town but worth the drive. I had the seafood medely which was really good. The only tiny criticism would be I'd have preferred the Langoistine to be hot. Other than that it was lovely. The accompanying veg were very tasty. Especially the carrots 😃 The sweet was called "Scotch Mist" . This was a mix of meringues, cream, toasted oatmeal and plenty of Whisky. This was also very tasty. I would happily go back.

Rather splendid. Dropped by early afternoon to a warm welcome. Delighted to try their all day brunch which was delicious. Quality ingredients, perfectly cooked, which also included a good coffee. A very happy guest, thank you!

My husband and I stopped here after our adventure at Urquhart Castle and it was the best decision of our day! With Gabby’s delicious cooking and Gus’ company you can not go wrong stopping here. If you’re looking for some fantastic local home cooking you should stop here! Gus can’t make espresso but he can make a quick pot of yummy coffee!

The senior gentleman was the highlight of our experience. He was so funny and pleasant after being seated for a while. The salmon chowder was superb, hearty and not too fishy. The haggis with Chicken breasts was yummy, and the chicken and red wine sauce goes well the haggis. The sides of Vege was so good, came in generous portion. Do come early or risk being turned down as it gets fully booked in the evenings.

Quirky restaurant juxtaposed with a post office and craft shop. Wide variety on the dinner menu and great tasting food when it was delivered. Discreet, unobtrusive service. If you are expecting "posh" forget it, but if you like quality this is second to none.

This restaurant is amazing! Had the langoustine and braised venison (laird stew) followed by Cranochan for dessert. Everything was truly Scottish and most importantly, delicious! It's on a street on the main road between Inverness and Drumnadrochit. Staff were very prompt and friendly. Don't miss it!

It's a simple place and the only in the near surrounding. Had a decent plate of goulash. If you are waiting for a boat tour, it's a good place for a break.

Myself, my husband and two young children have just stopped here for dinner and what can I say?! If you want an amazing traditional meal, stop here. The extremely homely feel to it as well as the friendly owners just made it so welcoming and enjoyable. The food was obviously home cooked and we all thoroughly enjoyed our meals. Overall an excellent little place! Definitely one not to miss if you’re in the area.

This had been recommended to my partner by a work colleague, no expectations on my part, we were bowled over by the fabulous menu, seafood, venison, beef, lamb all sourced in the Highlands. Scallops to start with bacon, main of halibut, and a cranachan to end for me, my partner had the haggis starter, a special of roasted venison and Orkney cheesecake to round off. Utterly divine, you must go visit these people. We will be back, because that is the sort of menu that needs to be ticked off dish by dish. Family run, simple surroundings and just the best food.

...It has been 8 years since Jayne and I have eaten here. In the intervening years, I have waffled on to anyone who'd listen about the scallops and the Highland Park cheesecake. Well, I can honestly say that both are still as perfect as I remember, and the venison and Aberdeen Angus really are among the finest foods I have ever tasted from any restaurant. I strongly suspect that any food you select will be just as delicious TBH . Please do pay a visit if you are in the area, you will not be disappointed...

One of the best restaurants in Scotland. A cosy, friendly place with superb meals. Their whiskey cake is the best cake I have ever had!

Not a warm welcoming place ! Had to have a full meal just to sit down . All we wanted was a cuppa and some cake . She did not make us feel welcome ! From Inverness god help tourists!

Absolutely fabulous food. It was recommended to us and we are so pleased it was. The exterior belays the food. It is not licenced so you can take your own alcohol and they don't charge for corkage. We will definitely be back.
