Vanguard

After living in the town for two years, Vanguard has repeatedly served me the best coffee in Dunedin. The quality of the coffee is unrivalled in my experience. The food is also very good. Turkish eggs - ‘chef’s kiss’. The place can get a bit of a smoke on from the great work going on in the kitchen and would benefit from an improved extractor - but tis a minor point!

Really love the ambience eating in in this trendy breakfast/brunch/coffee spot. Bright and sunny with loads of indoor plants and lots of seating creates an alfresco feel. The coffee is good and eggs were delicious. Wide array of freshly prepared sandwiches, wraps, pastries and cakes on display. Everything prepared and served from the central kitchen on full view.

Coffee was pretty good, loved the atmosphere and all the plants that look well looked after. My one let down was the southern chicken burger which was okay but it was battered and cooked in the Louisiana seasoned coating mix which you can buy from the supermarket. I know this because I use that seasoning fairly often and it has a distinct taste. I think for the price of the burger it would've been nice if it was seasoned with an in-house made mix.

We went here as a group of 8 and had the most delicious, enjoyable brunch. Service was fast, especially considering it was a Saturday, and the food came out very quickly. Portion sizes were very generous, and not only did the food taste delicious but it looked beautiful as well. I had the Vege Bowl and can't wait to come back for another. Thanks!

They have really good food and coffee, but sometimes they struggle with taking orders, and have got my order wrong multiple times. Maybe the staff are still training? For example, I have been brought the wrong size coffee and payed for an extra coffee that I didn’t even order, however I did get a refund. I have also been told large coffee are single shot.. but they’re double. Their cabinet food is good quality, fresh and delicious. I recommend the breakfast brioche bun. The coffee are always well made (even when it’s not the right size/order) and probably the best I’ve had in town. Atmosphere is always refreshing and I love the greenery. The staff are also friendly.
