First time having food here, me and my girlfriend went for a date are waiter was John he was the best waiter I’ve had he made the night perfect I couldn’t of asked more, I did find a hair in my dessert but he controlled the situation and I understand things can happen. Beef wellington was perfect and again a great thanks to John he was amazing.

Visited The Cellar Door tonight for my special birthday celebration. From arriving to leaving it was brilliant! Alex and the the rest of the staff were very attentive, nothing was too much trouble! The food was out of this world, my husband thought the oyster starter was amazing but then said every plate was full of flavour. After desert I even received a desert plate with Happy Birthday on. We will definitely visit again and will be recommending to all of our friends.

The cellar door was a lovely little find offering a good selection of dishes, and seeming a popular spot among locals with the vibrant atmosphere.
Of all the options to have a Sunday Roast, this appeared to be the best on Google Maps and I wasn't disappointed. Firstly you could tell the freshness of the produce with the amazing taste and texture of the meet and veg. As someone who is from London I had an expectation on a Sunday Roast "from up north" and it more than delivered, with me almost not finishing my plate. When the plate arrives, you'll know where I'm coming from.
Overall I had a very good time at this restaurant, and would gladly revisit from the great food, atmosphere, and extremely friendly staff helping me have an chilled yet enjoyable Sunday, and being the cherry on top of the cake finishing off a very good weekend away in the North East of England.

The restaurant's entrance is just a small opening on one of the buildings with a wooden steps downward and opens up into a nice and neat dining area. Did not have the time to take more pictures as we were only on a short stop over from our land tour.
We ordered their Hoisin duck bao bun, crispy squid, broccoli with almonds and seafood fejioda. All I can say is that the food is superb, tasty and reasonable amount of serving. It's a restaurant worth visiting.

First time visitors to The Cellar Door. We we were downstairs in a lovely stone room. All 8 of us had the Sunday dinner. Outstanding plate of food! Lamb was beautifully rare. Plenty of veg. The crowning glory was the biggest yorkie I've ever had!!

Excellent food. Particularly love the steak tartare, which isn't always on the menu, but the chef was happy to prepare for me (with notice) even while it wasn't on the menu! Good choice of wine and drinks. Quickly becoming one of my favourite places to eat 👌🏼

Came with my student son. Incredible food. Please give a medal to whoever invented the shepherds pie roll! My lamb fillet was pink and melted in the mouth, his beef wellington looked amazing. Great gravy on both dishes. Really interesting wine list, great to see a few American wine choices on there. Staff were good. We were on a table right next to the top of the stairs and there was quite a lot of coming and going which was a bit distracting - I would’ve been annoyed if it had been a romantic date! But we hadn’t reserved so can’t complain. Pricey but overall worth it for such good food.

Unique restaurant. Need to head downstairs from the main street (hence the name "Cellar"). But restaurant opens up to the view of the river. Higher-end dining. Excellent food. Definitely an experience.

Outstanding
A narrow door, off the street. Leads you down a set of old stairs, with the Cellar Door sign above the entrance.
The first floor (downstairs) opens in to an airy room with pine floors and simple, seating. We wnt down another set of stairs in to a smaller room, with a stone cave like, cellar seating area, with soft lighting.
The service was excellent, friendly and attentive. We came on Sunday and had 2 courses for £23.
The food was outstanding! Beautifully cooked and presented.
The Sunday lunch was gorgeous and highly recommended
This place is a must visit when in Durham. Or even if you are 10 miles away!!! 😍
