It would be wrong to leave 2 stars because there were some things right with the meal, but I still wouldn’t eat here again nor would I recommend it to a friend. I got a takeout 2 ground beef tacos meal. I paid upfront and added in a $2 tip.
I was expecting something authentic because the person who took my order appeared to be more comfortable with Spanish than English, and Spanish was the primary language I heard spoken around me. What I got was ground beef that tasted and looked like what I have prepared at home using powder from a package. I should note that I have not done that for many years because it is disgusting.
The salsa was good but salty. The one slice of tomato was fresh tasting. The refried beans were very good. The chips for the salsa were burnt and I did not eat them. The taco shells were not burned. There was some cheese on the tacos but no cheese anywhere else.

It is literally “mi barrio” restaurant since I live right around the corner.
We’ve been eating here for years and it is very good, generous portions and reasonably priced. The only knock is location and decor (which isn’t really their fault). It is, however always clean and the staff are very pleasant.
Get the macho burrito or the enchiladas suizas.

Hidden gem if you love Latin food
Google
A local, quiet hole-in-the-wall indeed. But the best Mexican food we have found in East Durham. While the menu is Tex-Mex like, the food is much more authentic and tasty than your normal Tex-Mex place. In a small strip plaza by a gas station, i.e., don't go for the ambience. Go for the stellar food.

I have been going here for 14+ years. A hidden gem. The food is absolutely amazing.

A good place to dive into Mexican food after boating on Falls Lake. Friendly service, big portions, with OK ambiance for a little restaurant next to a gas station. Had quesadillas and rice & beans, etc. Large menu, plenty of choices for a group of hungry kayakers. We all came away satisfied. I'd give it a 3.5 if I could. Not a place to go for fine dining, but give it a try when you're in the neighborhood looking for good food at a very reasonable price.

This place is definitely the definition of "hole-in-the-wall", but is really quite good for the price. Extremely cheap lunches available here. It's definitely better than the other hole-in-the-wall around the corner Las Palmas.
