China Star

We discovered China Star while shopping and what a happy surprise it is. The restaurant is tucked away in a small strip mall on North Roxboro but inside was cozy and quaint. It offered the usual Chinese cuisine for a takeout restaurant BUT there was nothing usual about the food. First, the portions are huge. Second, they are delicious. The dumplings are not doughy but thinly wrapped and fried to perfection. The chicken fried rice is surprisingly savory with large chunks of chicken. My partner loved his tangy sesame chicken. My shrimp with Chinese vegetables were covered in a spicy brown sauce that just gave the entire dish so much flavor. For a fairly usual Chinese takeout restaurant, China Star is extraordinary and lives up to its name. 🌟

My husband, Jin, has been in and out of the hospital due to multiple health issues including a high chance of kidney failure and high blood pressure that has affected his working abilities. And I, myself, have diabetes. My husband is receiving surgery this Monday, 4/11 and we would be grateful to receive your support. I arrive at 2:58pm for their lunch special that ends at 3, the store isn't busy, a I'm the only one there. I don't get served until 3:01. When I tell them my order, I am reminded that lunch ends at 3:00. I said I was here at 2:58pm, she rolls her eyes at me and proceeds to take my order, rudely. While giving my order, I stopped, realized what happened and said, "you know what, nevermind." Just unprofessional behavior. You act like I caught you 2 minutes before closings when all it is is just a change of portion size and maybe a different container. I'll take my business somewhere else.

I know that we're in the middle of a pandemic and prices of everything has gone up and with short of staff. The cashier is the cook and the one that answers the phone and she looks absolutely miserable so I feel for her but there was literally four pieces of roast pork in my pork fried rice. F o u r. And I had to call and ask was this a child size egg roll. Golden China has always been my go-to and it will remain that way. Sorry not sorry

My family has eaten here a couple of times and have been pleased both times. They give you generous portions at a great price. I love the steamed pork dumplings and my son loves the General Tso’s chicken. The Lo Mein is fresh and has tons of meat! They have gone above and beyond to make it as contactless as possible while still convenient.
