My favorite places are those little "hole in the wall" joints where you meet the owner and you get great food because the owner sees the food and service as a reflection of themselves. This is one of those places. You won't even be able to remember the name of it but you'll want to come back again and again for the amazing authentic food. SO GOOD! So GOOD!

One of Durham's hidden gems, easily one of the top three Latin American restaurants in a town that has lots. Don't let the exterior fool you, the restaurant inside is large, impeccably clean, and welcoming.
The food is fantastic with fare from Mexico, El Salvador, and Honduras. Fresh, authentic, and packed with flavor. Prices are low, portains are large, and the staff some of the friendliest and most attentive in the Triangle. They'll happily customize heat levels and sauces to fit individual tastes. And if you do like spicy they'll REALLY deliver!
Give them a shot, you won't regret it!

A hidden gem in the Lakewood neighborhood! Coming to La Tiendita II is like teletransporting to Latin America. I got a large baleada with eggs, beans, avocado and cheese, and a cup of instant Nescafe coffee for less than $5. It was exactly what I needed on a rainy Saturday morning in Bull City. In addition, it's locally-owned by an immigrant family from Guanajuato, México. You'll likely get to meet José, the owner, who will enthusiastically greet and welcome you. Are you always thinking of how to support immigrants in our community? This is a way. Come visit La Tiendita II!!

I have lived two block from this place for at least 3 years. So much time wasted! Amazing food, reasonable prices. Can't wait to try the rest of the menu. Carnitas and al pastor were both phenomenal. Best tomatillo salsa I've ever had.

The best, most authentic, flavorful and substantial Mexican food. This is truly a hidden gem. No attention given from Durham online guides. Don’t waste your time and money at Taqueria La Vaquita or anywhere else in Durham. The chef here makes the most bomb food and gives you big portions. It’s clear that he intimately inherited his culinary knowledge in Mexico and brought it to North Carolina

What a great place! Everything was made from scratch and amazing. Portions are huge, we ordered what we thought was enough for two, and should have brought 2 or 3 friends. The tamales pollo were the best I ever had, and I lived in New Mexico for 20 years. We'll be back soon!!!

Delicious and low price tacos! Not many of the employees speak English, so be prepared for that if you go. But you definitely should because these are some of the best tacos in town!
