Review The Grey Horse - East Boldon

A very large pub on the main road between Mackem Land and Gods country. Some street parking at the front carpark at the rear. Lots of different areas inside for sitting with lots of room. Sitting area at the back. Staff are good and on the ball.

Having day, so went for tea. Pub was clean and friendly, he had his favourite, scampi, chips and mushy peas, I had burger and chips. Burger was really good lots of flavour but not overloaded with lots of extras. Staff were polite and checked in with us, making sure we had everything and were happy with meals.

Beautiful cozy pub, I went in for a Sunday lunch. It was reasonably priced and the staff was very nice. Would definitely come back, the only reason it's not a 5 is that my roast potatoes and Yorkshire pudding were burnt. Something else to note, they had loads of parking available which was a major plus! 09/03/2023 Update I went back to the grey horse and the yorkshore pudding and potatoes weren't burnt so I would now rate the whole thing was a 10/10. The food tasted even better than before and the service was excellent! Would 100% reccomend for anyone looking for a place to pop in for a nice Sunday Roast. :)

Absolutely lovely bar with super staff, was gonna give them 4 stars as the tomato soup was warm (at best) but everything else was spot on and the staff were super friendly also polite, great atmosphere and will definitely be doing back so had to give them the full five stars! Very reasonably priced as well which is rare you see these days🙂👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

All round great ‘proper’ pub. The staff really can’t do enough for you and nothing is ever too much of an ask. I live in the area and we have plenty of pubs in Boldon but I come back to this one every single time because of the staff. Keep pouring that Peroni as good as you do 🥰🍺

The restaurant is very cozy furnished. You can feel there like at home. It is very clean, which is very important. The food is delicious. Very nice atmosphere and attentive service. I highly recommend the restaurants.

Amazing food. Best lamb shank I've ever had and only £11.99. Staff treat you like a regular straight away. Salads are lush on a hot day in the beer garden

This my local pub. Staff are always friendly and welcoming. The Grey Horse has a good selection of real ales. There are plenty of TV screens for watching sports. Also has a great quiz on Wednesday evenings.

Good food, good beer, excellent pub, what more do you need on a Sunday afternoon?

We visited The Grey last night to watch the footy and to have the special £10.99 meal for two having eaten here many times in the past. The staff are always professional but friendly, the ambience is great and the Hunters chicken in BBQ sauce with slices of bacon on top home made chips, garden peas was superb. What more can I say apart from you won't be disapointed.

Went there last night for tea. Got fish and chips. Fish was lovely crispy batter fish lovely and white. Disappointed they don't do home made chips like most places. Food come and table wasn't set so we had to wait with food on the table while the staff went back to the opposite side of the pub for cutlery and condiments. When they come salt was empty asked for new one. Then I went for vinagar that was nearly empty. Very busy pub so things happen. But think having to wait for cutlery could improve

A local pub on a gastro-journey. In my view the food is no better than a beefeater type restaurant. Highly seasoned and not well cooked. The wine selection was good, an Argentinian Merlot and a not too bad Cote Du Rhone, but overall I wouldn't recommend it as a food venue

Reserved a table for 6 adults and a baby. Table was all ready for us including the highchair already set up at table. We all had nice meal, not restaurant standard but very nice for a pub meal. Staff were really helpful and friendly and would recommend a visit.

As a family the 4 of us always come for a meal. Today we thought we come again and check out the newly refurbished grey house. Beautifully decorated, comfortable seating, cosy feeling to the place. Food looks delicious but looks can be deceiving! I had 8oz steak with veg, it was barely warm and more fat than meat, tbh the only reason I ate half was because....one I was starving and two the price has gone up! My partners mixed grill was the same barely warm and the sausage was charcoal basically. Both kids meals were cold apart from the chicken. Ice cream order with caramel sauce which come out without it. Gutted of our experience here today as we have been coming here for years with the kids and I myself when I was younger.

The management barred me for having a bit crack on , There was no bad language , No trouble , He is no angel himself The bar staff are miserable The pub itself is too bright And the pub food is overpriced , The meat taste like boiled dog . Crap house it is !

Wanted a smallish lunch for my daughter (16) and I because Friday is usually take away night in our house so didn't want to overeat or get too stuffed. This place has just been refurbished and I fancied a nosey. We found a table in a nice comfortable airy space. We each had a large Diet Coke, I had a club sandwich which came with chips but I did have a choice of sweet potato wedges or salad instead. My daughter had the classic burger also with chips. My daughter who has autism ordered for us and I could overhear. The barmaid was very patient and respectful to her and gave her plenty of time to say what she needed to. After a only a short while our food arrived and was lovely. Gorgeous juicy burger in one of those brioche style buns and my club sandwich was toasted white bloomer bread with charcoal chicken, smoked bacon and gem lettuce. Chips were nice and chunky, clean and weren't dripping with grease. Portions were bang on, not huge and off putting, but I still only managed half. My Hoover of a daughter inhaled all of hers and my leftovers lol! Staff were polite and chatty. The place is so much brighter after it's refurb. Excellent varied menu and some really great deals on too. Bill was £21, however they had a 2 for £10.49 offer too! Thanks for a lovely hour out, we will be back and will spread the word.

Just attended this overpriced pile of shite! The food was rubbish! Children's portions and bits missed off the order. Steak sandwich!!!! Left over scraps of meat from Sunday lunch more like. Tomato & Mozzarella sandwich nothing like as advertised on the menu, minuscale bits of mozzarella !!! My chicken breast burger, with invisible cheese and bacon, crap! You need to sharpen up your act for the prices you charge!! Not impressed :(

Have passed this pub so many times and loved the look of it but never been in until the other day. Lived in Whitburn Rd forty years ago and felt the need for a bevvie when out with friends. Ambience good, service fab and the staff great. In fact (I forget the name of the lovely lady that served us), we had a great ‘diet discussion’ with her - even though my mate on diet was wolfing down crisps and nuts by the armful...😄! Thanks for a great break folks...👍!

Great food, lovely staff. My favourite pub in the area! 100% recommend.

Very disappointed. Tiny steak and onion sandwich missing the onion with horrible dry, overcooked oven chips. £22 for 2 of us with a diet coke certainly wasn't worth the money. Left hungry.

We used to always go to the Grey Horse since moving to East Boldon 12 yrs ago, however we stopped going earlier in the year as the food and staff were just not up to standard.Since the refurbishment and new staff we have returned and can't fault the food and staff both are fabulous as is the pub itself. We will certainly be eating here in future once again.
