We recently held a pre-wedding evening dinner here on a Saturday evening (We we’re married at The De Vere Horsley the following day).
My wife and I had visited for dinner about a month prior to check out the food/facilities and to book this.
In all we had about 20 family & friends join us, originally we were given a special set menu to chose from but no one liked it, so the pub kindly let us all chose from the main menu and we had sent in our preorders a few days prior.
Overall the evening went well, most people were happy with their food, we both had steak and it enjoyed it, a few said they were disappointed and one Rump Steak was very over cooked so I returned it on behalf of my uncle where the manager agreed to remove it from the bill, which was both welcomed and fair.
We ate inside but being a warm evening it was too hot, I really think some AC would be beneficial in that area. Later we moved out onto the grass where everyone enjoyed the rest of the evening with drinks.
As a side note, if anyone reading this is thinking of doing similar, as a top-tip I would advise you try to ensure everyone pays up at the end of the evening, as we’ve since been presented with a bill from some who didn’t pay!! It’s very hard to work out who!
What a lovely pub to spend a couple of hours. It's an attractive pub with lots of different areas to sit inside and loads of outdoor seating on the terraces and bear garden. Menu had some interesting options and we tried the choux buns with truffle cheese dip and the cheese sourdough sandwich with marmite onions, both great. Staff really efficient and the app ordering worked well. Large car park but got full during our visit.
Had a recent meal on a £100 voucher, we had the Tempura Prawns & Salmon with Crab, then the Seabream and Steak Diane, one glitch, the sauce was cold, but not a problem, they immediately took the cold sauce and replaced with hot sauce. Each had a glass of wine. When we asked for the bill, with the voucher we only had £5 to pay, Jaz was fantastic and said that due to sauce being cold that we had nothing to pay. Fantastic customer service and the whole team were very helpful and pleasant. Will definitely go again.
Will say that parking can be an issue, so go early if you have a dinner reservation.
We had a really lovely evening, food was really delicious and good quality, and service was great - all were welcoming and friendly. A few things weren't available/had run out, but it didn't affect us plus they had a few specials on. I look forward to our next visit!
Also, highly recommend booking especially on a Friday or Saturday - even just on the day if there's space.
5 stars all round! What a fantastic country pub with lots of character, also so cosy, relaxed and warm and the food was tasty too! We had the beef and ale pie with mash and cabbage, delicious!
Lovely waiting staff too, can’t fault it.
An excellent old inn dated 1561, which incorporates part of a curious old toll station on one corner. It's been enlarged and updated inside, but still manages to provide some attractive curios and charm.
Excellent food and a good selection of beers. Plenty of seating inside and out to enjoy a summer's evening. Friendly staff and interesting chats with locals.
It is a very popular pub. The food is great. We came here for our wedding anniversary meal, which we mentioned in passing in conversation when we were booking the table during the same day. When we got to the pub at the time of our booking, the staff congratulated us on our anniversary and bought us a card.
Very welcoming, we would love to visit again.
A beautiful pub with such friendly staff. The service was lovely and quick. The food was delicious and so were the drinks. I had the dirty vegan burger and I would really recommend it. I wish we had something local like this to us as it was a lovely place to visit. I hope one day we can come back again.
Very friendly staff. Thank goodness London Pride still there. Nice atmosphere and they make a really good effort with fire. Food excellent.
Discovered this gem of a pub years ago when my husband and I used to go for long walks around Horsley. Decided to come back with our 4 year old for Fathers Day yesterday. So pleased to report that it’s just as good, if not better, than when we used to visit 6/7 years ago. It is easily the best roast I’ve ever had in a pub, how the beef was still perfectly pink and tender at 5pm is beyond me. Plenty of delicious veg to accompany it too. The staff were super friendly and helpful and there’s just a lovely atmosphere! It’s a shame we don’t live closer or we’d be in there every Sunday!! Thanks so much for a wonderful experience on Fathers Day (and his gift too!).
We’ve defected to the Duke of Wellington since the food at our local went downhill following a take over by a big pubco chain. We are mightily relieved that a decent gastro pub still remains in our neighbourhood!
We’ve had a number of meals here with different menus and have yet to experience a major disappointment (Salted Caramel Tart was an experience we won’t be repeating ) but otherwise the food and service has been flawless.
Beautiful pub, great location, delicious food. I was really impressed. Starter - shrimp cocktail. Sat down for Sunday roast, exceptional, delicate beef, freshly made pudding, and dessert, orange chocolate cake, for a great finish to perfect lunch. Highly recommended.
Only having been outside for their pop up coffee shop and for some lunch it is not a bad spot. I am keen to go inside when the weather drops off.
I have to say their cheese toastie is fantastic! The mac n cheese not so great, it was just bechamel sauce, pasta and no cheese.
The main road makes it a touch noisey to sit outside.
First time here. Food was excellent, staff were fantastic. Really friendly & helpful. Some dishes seemed expensive but in reality that is eating out in 2023.
Will definitely return & would highly recommend. First class.
