Malayalam allows customers until 10pm so it was a great choice to go for a meal to soak up all the alcohol from this year's beer festival.
The choice for vegans is great! We opted for a few small dishes, such as spicy potatoes, aubergine fritters, onion fritters and a masala dosa.
We left Malayalam full and with a tasty warmth in our mouths. It was incredible.
We will have to return to try one of their curries.

Exceptional South Indian food right in the heart of Eastbourne. Since this is a rare find, (unlike most Indian restaurants) I would absolutely not go to Eastbourne and miss this place out. I’m surprised this restaurant hasn’t got a Michelin star. The first time we came here the server gave us a couple of dosas for free- they were absolutely delicious. This was our sign we had to come here. Really nice atmosphere with hearty, authentic Keralan food. Been here many times and looking forward to come here again.

My friends and I recently visited Malayalam Mother's Cuisine for breakfast, and we had a pleasant experience overall. The restaurant stood out with its cleanliness, and the staff was exceptionally friendly and accommodating.
Upon entering, we were immediately greeted with warm smiles and seated promptly. The ambiance was inviting, with a comfortable and clean dining area. It was evident that the restaurant takes great care in maintaining a hygienic environment, which was highly appreciated.
The highlight of our breakfast experience was the pappadum. They were perfectly crispy and had a delightful taste. We couldn't resist ordering another round! The flavors were authentic and left us craving for more.
However, we felt that the uttappa fell a bit short of our expectations. While it was decent, we believe it could have been better in terms of taste and texture. It lacked the distinctive flavors we were hoping for, but it was still enjoyable.
Despite this minor setback, the overall service and dining experience were commendable. The staff members were attentive and helpful, ensuring that we had everything we needed throughout our meal. Their friendly nature created a welcoming atmosphere, making us feel right at home.
In conclusion, Malayalam Mother's Cuisine is a clean and inviting restaurant with exceptional service. Their delicious pappadum was the highlight of our breakfast, although we felt the uttappa could be improved. We would recommend this restaurant to anyone seeking a pleasant dining experience with authentic flavors. We will definitely be returning to try more of their menu offerings!
Kudos to Stanley for giving us the best experience

Stopped in town after an unexpected trip to the coast.

Very friendly waiters, they explain the menu and make great suggestions. Quick service for starters, mains and desserts.
There are spicy options and mild options. The chicken and lamb is very high quality meat, best in Eastbourne I've tried so far. The herbs and spices were so tasty and not too much.

First visit, new favourite. Nice interior, good atmosphere. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable about food, asked intelligent questions about how you like your food, how spicy etc, excellent service. The food is 5 star, really very good. Everything from starters on had a bit of "Wow, this is SO good" about it. Lots of vegetarian options, lots of seafood, extensive varied menu. Was googling as soon as possible to try to find the recipe for things, (the Rasacharu soup starter is a simple bit of genius, my other half had a first taste & said, "I want the recipe, I want a bucket of this"). I guess we'll just have to go again ASAP.. Will be back soon!

After a long walk alongside the beach, walked into this Kearalese-Malayalam restaurant for a bite. The ambiance was great, excellent location (right off the beach near to Pier) and good service.
My mum wanted Masala Dosa as she was yearning for one after eating soups and beans across Eastbourne! Dosa was crispy and tasty and so are the chutneys that were served with it.
We had chappattis which were pretty tasty, served with Aubergine +Tomato curry. In addition to this curry, we’ve also ordered Dal and Spinach which was mild but awesome flavoursome! The lemon rice was a treat - rich in flavour, it had excellent lemony-tangy taste with dals giving us a munch bite.
It was a wholesome meal with a Payasam as a gorgeous treat!
PS: I’m a vegetarian so unfortunately can’t comment on the non-veg dishes, sorry!

Delicious food and lovely service. My favourite was the roasted mussels from the specials. Great atmosphere too with Malayalam music in the background.

We had the set lunch (curries, rice, dosa and chutneys ) It was absolutely delicious and not expensive. Also it was freshly prepared. Service was very friendly and efficient. Very good vegan options. We will return.

A world away from traditional Indian restaurants. An unusual but delicious and surprising menu. Everything is homemade including the poppadoms.
Clearly a family business who take great pride in what they do.
Highly recommended.

Fabulous South Indian restaurant in the middle of Eastbourne. Saturday nights are very busy with a great atmosphere, best to book in advance. Glad we did, it was packed on November 19th....
Waiting staff very attentive and knowledgeable about their menu - offering advice about each dish and tailoring spice levels of individual items to suit each of our tastes. He did all 4 of us, starters & mains and got every one spot on - and he never even wrote anything down !! Cobra on draught too. Reasonable prices made for great value meal, around £30 each including drinks.
We'll definitely return on our next trip to Eastbourne.
Highly recommended , many thanks!

Attentive service and amazing food. The staff are friendly and very quick to attend needs even on a busy prime time Saturday.
A must go to for anyone with an appreciation of Indian food looking for something more authentic than the standard highstreet British Indian.

Loved this place! Staff were very friendly and there is a wide range of vegan, gluten-free dishes. In fact, there are so many, we have to go back to try more!

Group of 4 of us ate here on Sunday 20th May lunchtime.
Very friendly atmosphere and the food was absolutely to die for.
Between us we had a good mix of dishes available and every one of them was full of taste and flavour.

Visited Mandarins several times. Once for breakfast and several times for dinner. Each time we were able to eat outside. Food is excellent and well presented. Eve the owner is great. She ensures restaurant has a high standard. Will definitely want to return next time in Eastbourne.
