All I can say is wow. I've had so many great dining experiences in Edinburgh, but this one has to trump them all. There was 11 of us there in total, so we booked quite far in advance because it's quite a small restaurant.
We went on a Friday night and it's BYOB, which was great for us but maybe not everyone around us! The service was very relaxed, but friendly, and our waitress was very vocal about what she liked on the menu, which I thoroughly enjoyed. One of my friends had been before so I took my lead from her when ordering and the waitress quickly stated that this was her favourite, so I was very excited!
We shared the prawns with garlic and ginger to start, which were extremely tasty but my main was definitely the highlight. I chose the coconut, coriander and almond fish fillet, which came with carrots and crushed potatoes. I ate the whole thing and enjoyed every last bit - it was fantastic!
Surprisingly, even better than the food was the atmosphere. After we had eaten a guitarist came out and we all started to sing along, which quickly led to people in the restaurant standing up to sing. I don't think I have ever had so much fun in a restaurant and it is especially rare to find a place with such an inviting atmosphere and such amazing food.
The whole evening was brilliant, I felt like a was in someone's home in the Caribbean drinking wine, eating good food and having a fantastic time with friends! I can't wait to go back to Riverlife!
Sooooooo Good. This has to be my favourite Edinburgh Restaurant. I've been 3 times since end April. Buumba the waitress is just brilliant. We got there at 5:50 not realising it opened at 6. She let us in so we could sit, put our beers in the fridge (was a very hot evening) - yes in Edinburgh! Met her husband Mario who is the chef who certainly is one of the best chefs I've come across.
My favourite starters so far has to be the Fig in Pancetta with Blue Cheese & Balsamic Dressing AND the Mushrooms stuffed with Blue Cheese. The Smoked Salmon Fish Cake, Poached Egg, French Mustard Dressing is divine.
I'm working my way through the menu so can't wait to go back.
RiveRLife is boasts an extensive menu, flavoursome good food prepared in house. The only place in Edinburgh serving a fusion of French Caribbean food. BYOB no corkage, you just have to try it out.
What a great find! Lovely and welcoming and the Caribbean food was delicious. My husband and I both had the mutton curry with plantain. The meat was so tender and the spices were blended really well to make this a really tasty meal. We had cocktails too which were very nice. Dominic who served was very attentive and Mario the Chef came out to see us later on in the evening. After our meal Dominic played guitar and we all joined in the singing. Great atmosphere. I hope we manage to go back again soon in the not too distant future.
Authentic 5 star French Carribbean cuisine in an atmosphere that is true to the Islands of the Carribbean. One in our group had the best jerk pork ribs of his life. Other dinners were equally amazing. By the time we left we felt we were lifetime friends with the truly talented chef and the manager. This is a deceptively unpretentious place with 5 star service in all respects. Great drinks too. Definitely a hidden treasure.
Amazing food, with plenty of options to suit all dietary requirements. Allergens were listed on the menu, not a little sheet kept behind the counter like many other places, which was brilliant. Lovely staff, and a great atmosphere.
Had a delicious meal at riveRLife at the weekend. Excellent menu with French Caribbean influence and prices very good with a £24.95 for 3 Courses menu as well as a la carte. The Oxtail Ragout and Mutton Curry was delicious! Note that the oxtail ragout is served on the bone and you need to flake the meat out. I saw one table a bit put off by this chunk of...Oxtail! It's delicious and worth the effort!
Service was a bit flaky and there were a couple small mistakes made with our order but this appeared down to staffing issues and staff that were there tried to keep on top of it. The owner came around and did her best too so I'll be happy to go back and try to get this moved up to a 5 Star review.
Gorgeous, authentic French-Caribbean cuisine which packs a punch! Between us we sampled four main dishes and really enjoyed them - we finished all of them. Our favourites were the duck and the ox tail ragu - the latter truly blew us away. Must try!
Overall it was a very pleasant dining experience, the vibes were cosy and took you somewhere remote and warm from Scotland- you could almost hear the sound of waves splashing on a sandy Caribbean beach if you are imaginative like me!
First time here and what a find. Menu was superb and the Coconut and Almond White Fish was excellent. Liked the different menu options, giving 2 of 3 course options. Was there on a Thursday evening ant it was quiet, WHY, this place is absolutely superb

Cannot compliment the food enough, we went for a two course deal and absolutely loved all of our dishes.
Veggie options that are delicious and massive portions! Staff were fab, loved our waiter and the cook, super attentive and friendly. Definitely coming back again for more :) HIGHLY RECOMMEND
Everything we had was well cooked and tasted good. I wish they did a tapas style menu so I could try a few of the dishes at once. Lots of things I'd never heard of so was hard to choose which one to sample! Lunch menu looks great value for money (we were there for dinner)
I have been a customer in the past, but since I moved to the other end of the town I didn't have many occasion to have a meal here. I proposed Riverlife to my manager for a night out organized by the company, because I was 100% sure this place can deliver! The food is just delicious and the wonderful staff managed to make everyone feel welcome. The service has been quick, kind and the portion very filling.
What I also like of Riverlife is being a BYOB restaurant, which gives me more flexibility when it comes to wine. (I'm Italian and I'm particularly picky on this subject)
Absolutely lovely. Excellent people and excellent food! I had the mutton curry and then the chocolate sponge - both were actually fantastic.
Would come here every day if I could!!
