Good food, decent prices. Would give 5 stars but the atmosphere was a little off - not enough lighting and staff was very noisy.

The quality of the dishes on offer was entirely pleasing, making it one of the best places I’ve visited for Chinese food, in the city

Twas a cold, dark, blustery night when my colleagues and I ventured into B&D's. The rush of warmth that hit us as we entered was a welcome relief from the chilly outside and we were offered our choice of table, a lovely gesture for quite a large party considering the size of the seating area. Glasses and bottle openers were offered for our BYOB beverages and a bowl of complimentary prawn crackers (the best I've had in Edinburgh!) were bestowed upon us.

Having booked ahead we already knew that we would be having the seven dish tasting menu for our main but one look at the starters and we knew we had to order some. We settled on ribs, chicken noodle soup and dumplings - all of which were delicious, seriously, seriously delicious!

Then came our tasting menu dishes. We ordered a side of boiled rice and a side of egg fried rice to accompany our mammoth main meal which consisted of too many things for me to remember, all of which were delectable. Stand outs included the prawns (I'm not a seafood person but these were cooked beautifully, very fresh and clean and had the most succulent sauce I think I've ever tasted covering them) and the sand chicken which was a little spicy but very tasty.

We ended the meal with dessert (somehow!) and left with full bellies and happy faces. The tasting menu was a little on the expensive side but the regular menu is rather fairly priced. This place is a little gem nestled in the Dalry/Gorgie area that I would highly recommend and they do takeaway if you don't fancy dining in.

Very good restaurant! Friendly staff, good price and very tasty food.
I went to this restaurant on the Valentines Day without reservation and although the restaurant is very small (it has no more than 20 places) I could fortunately get a table.
I ordered two starters: vegetable spring rolls which were absolutely delicious and crunchy and vegetable dumplings that were amazing as well!
The main dish was Kung Po Chicken. Very nice and perfectly hot/spicy for my taste. The Fried Rice was really nice too. I drunk Lemon Tea which had a very strong taste. I didn't like it that much. I think Fresh Lemon Water is way better.
I'm sure this is going to be one of my favourite chinese restaurants in Edinburgh.

I have lived in the Dalry area for many years and seen several bog standard Chinese take aways come and go on the site where this restaurant is now located. So when B&Ds Kitchen opened I didn't pay much attention, although there was also now a sit-in option - something none of the previous incarnations had offered. But I still wasn't drawn in until I read some of the reviews on Zomato and realised I may well have been missing something special... so pretty much on the spur of the moment we walked in on a Saturday evening to see if there was a table available...

We were kindly offered a table but, due to the short notice, on the understanding we would have to be on our way by 7.45 as they were expecting a party of 18 then which would put them at capacity- and looking at the size of the place even that was going to be a squeeze. This gave us just over an hour (and I'd already bought my beer) so we agreed and sat down...

It's BYOB with no corkage and my beers were kindly taken off me for chilling to be returned as required - which was pretty immediately as after polishing off the complimentary prawn crackers I had the hot and sour soup which certainly was hot- from the first slightly eyewatering spoonful to the last-  the chili heat was there all he way. Thicker than I had expected but full of various shredded veg and very tasty.

For main I thought I'd try something new (for me) the "Hot Sand Chicken", simply described on the menu as "Oven roasted garlic finely chopped with spring onions". What arrived were chunky nuggets of chicken in a dry crispy salty and spicy coating mixed with small pieces of (I guess) garlic and spring onions. Delicious and the salty heat had me calling for another of my chilled beers. Simple boiled rice was my chosen accompaniment.

We were the only diners during the hour, but several customers came for take aways and several callers looking for bookings had to be declined due to the upcoming party. During the meal our waiter was chatty but not overly so and made sure we had enough rice and kept the chilled beer coming.

So - it turns out I have been walking past your genuine "hidden gem" for 2 years but I'll definitely be back - maybe to try some of the more exotic items on the menu that require 24hours notice...

I literally live around the corner from this place so I can't believe it's taken so long for us to come here. Well I suppose better late than never. I can only agree with all the previous reviews and say that this little place is an absolute gem. I had the veggie dumplings to start and then my favourite of chicken and black bean sauce. The dumplings were pan fried then steamed so soft on top but still a little chewy bit on the bottom. Perfect. My chicken was lovely with the sauce not to thick with really fresh veg and had a little chilli heat too.

I can see why this place has been voted best Chinese in Edinburgh!

If it weren't for the fact it's up in Dalry and literally the opposite side of town from me and they don't deliver, I'd probably eat from here once a week.

The Hot Sand dishes are amazingly flavourful and Hakka Beef reminds me of something my granny might make.

The restaurant itself is teeny tiny, so make sure you book if you want to sit in. BYOB with no corkage, so be sure to bring a bottle if you fancy a drink. They seem to do an amazing takeaway trade, so be prepared to have people milling around your table while you dine if you're sitting in.

The 1/2 aromatic duck is delicious and PLENTIFUL as a starter for two people.. (we ended up taking some home to save room for our mains).

This place offers very decent, honest and fresh Chinese food - mostly from Guangdong and Hong Kong style of cooking. The atmosphere is always welcoming and the prices are very reasonable. They can cook things to order - for example fresh fish (if you order in advance) and they can also cook up authentic fried rice and it tastes exactly like it does in China! No nasty toxic looking sauces, just good honest delicious Chinese food. A great neighborhood family run restaurant and deserves support.

Had lunch here today. Loved it!

It's my second time and food is lovely. Always lots on the plate, can make lunchtime a bit indulgent but I have taken my leftovers home :-D

My favourite is the coriander wonton's (first picture), the reason for this is I never like coriander. Never! So I was very surprised when I tried one off my other half's plate on our first trip and loved it! Even ordered a second lot to take home.

Very worth the trip and try the specials too they are amazing and freshly made. Hope you enjoy it as much as me. Friendly family run business.

I’d heard some good things about B & D’s, which has been open for a little over a year, serving the Chinese food needs of Dalry and Gorgie patrons. I’d been plotting a visit for a few weeks, so was glad to finally get the opportunity to pop along.

It’s a simple dining space, augmented by nice cornicing, and an eclectic array of artwork. It seats around twelve, with some space for the frequent customers popping in to order and/or collect takeout.

I’d picked a busy evening, so the kitchen was working at a furious pace. Even then, things were a little slow. They had a real plate-spinning task to keep both sit-in and takeaway customers pleased. At one point they ran out of rice. If ever there was an indicator of busy a night, that was it.

From their considerable range, I opted for hot and sour soup to start, then hakka beef with noodles to follow. It’s a BYO place, but I was very happy to go with tea as my liquid accompaniment.

After decent prawns crackers had been brought, my soup was soon with me. It was a restrained and measured hot and sour, with good flavour and a rich, dark colour. It had none of the blasting heat excesses of some hot and sours, which for my tastes this evening, was good news.

It took a while for the main course to emerge, but it was entirely worth the wait. The hakka beef was an outstanding dish. It was so soft, tender and delicate that it was a test for my chopstick work to pick up the chunks without them falling apart. The rich and meaty sauce was nicely spiced and expertly seasoned. The noodle accompaniment was appropriately simple, allowing the beef to take centre stage.

A plate of orange segments were brought, to conclude things. This wasn’t something I’d encountered since half-time in the last rugby match I played. They provided a nicely refreshing palette cleanser.

So overall, B & D’s was really good. The pace of service was a touch pedestrian, but it was always friendly and attentive. The quality of the dishes on offer was entirely pleasing, making it one of the best places I’ve visited for Chinese food, in the city. I’d recommend a visit, at your earliest convenience.

What a diamond in the rough this place is! Not the best location, less than a mile from Murrayfield stadium and barely larger than a chip shop (only maybe 6 tables or less), but the food in this humble place was AMAZING, with exotic dishes I'd never seen before on a Chinese menu. There were Chinese people eating in there too, which has to be a good sign. Very reasonable prices for amazing food. I just hope the media food critics don't discover this place or availability/prices will skyrocket.

Twenty of us were here for a birthday party and we had a great evening. We booked well in advance and we had the whole restaurant to ourselves over two large round tables. The owners were able to help us with some dietary requirements and the evening was perfect. The menu is extensive and food delicious. I look forward to eating here again to try some more of the specials. Worth noting that the toilet is accessed down a steep flight of stairs.

Got some authentic spiciness when ordering Szechuan beef stir fry and noodles takeaway with pork dumblings on the side. Highly recommended for friends of spicy Chinese food.

We ordered takeaway the other night and everything was spectacular. The menu was very clear for vegan options and allergens, which I really appreciated. Every dish was perfect. Huge portions and tasted fresh and flavourful. The tofu with cashews was so delicious and so was the veg chow mein. This is going to be our main takeaway spot from now on! Also the person that took our order was so friendly and helpful. Thank you for a great experience!

Stopped in on the way home for work for a rare and week earned treat. Firstly, the hygiene rules are being meticulously followed. There is a table at the entrance with hand sanitizer and paper menus. Clean your hands, pick up your own menu (and take it home with you) then place your order at the counter. Once the food is cooked, they'll even bring it to your car for you. The food is is usual amazing quality. I had what is probably my favourite dish from any restaurant anywhere, got sand duck. My wife has crispy chili beef whenever we have Chinese food. We had Singapore rice noodles and bed noodles. The quality was excellent as usual. Can't wait until we can go and have a proper sit down meal with them. This is one of the hidden gems of Edinburgh. And whilst I know saying this might persuade hundreds of new people to visit and make it hard for us to get a table, they really deserve it, and you'll never be disappointed!

I cannot stress enough how good this restaurant is. If you have to eat Chinese cuisine anywhere you have to try here!! The food is first class. Always freshly prepared to the highest quality. The staff are always friendly. They are always willing to make slight adjustments to suit your tastes too. It almost feels like having your own private chef 😊 Just amazing!!

Cozy place with very good food in most cases. Not many tables, you should book if you want to eat in after 7. The salt chilli fried chicken is fantastic, and they do a tofu version too for vegetarians. The sweet and sour sauce is a bit weird to my taste but everything else we have eaten is a winner. Friendly family run business.

We ordered from B&D's for the first time tonight after seeing many recommendations. We were not disappointed. The food was excellent. Clearly freshly prepared. Super tasty. Big portions. We felt it was great value for money. This will be our go-to place from now on. Thank you!

Amazingly authentic food- spicy really is spicy, sour really is sour! Glad we booked as place filled up & we would've been disappointed. My friend ordered king prawns in garlic sauce & they really were good! Still partially shelled but I think that adds to the flavour. My ma po tofu was just incredible! Best I've ever had! Would really recommend this place & will definitely return.

Good quality Chinese takeaway, which is now my regular. It's surprisingly light and ingredients are always fresh and very tasty. Satisfying and doesn't leave you feeling sluggish as some takeaway food can.
