I've been to The Cambridge Bar on many different occasions and it never failed me. Schiehallion on tap is always a good treat after a long day at work. Accompanied by one of their burgers tastes even better! I had their Three Alarm once which is lovely and quite spicy so if you like spicy food go for it! However, they have a great selection of hot sauces so even if you order just a classic burger you can always make it special with a different sauce. The meat is always cooked to perfection, pink in the middle how it should be. The best to finish the meal is by 'digestivo' and The Cambridge Bar offers a good selection of single malts so go for it if you like it my way! The place is usually busy so if you plan to eat, book in advance. It's great just for drinks, very chilled atmosphere and the crowd that goes there is usually pretty friendly.

So what can I say about this place?

If you like beer.
If you like burgers.
If you like beer and burgers together.

Why aren't you here?

Question answers my question.

On a serious note get yourself here if you like the two mentioned above. I do and if I could eat here every day I happily would.

Amazing. Staff amazing and the place is very rustic in feel.

Thankfully it's still a bit of a hidden gem with its placement so therefore isn't usually too busy .. let's keep the secret between us tho yeah?

Sorry for the lack of photos... didn't take the phone with me!

An absolute gem of a pub - the burgers are the best in Edinburgh and they have a great selection of beers.

As an Aussie it's great to see a pub which doesn't serve Fosters - that's the sign of a place which knows its beer. Highly recommended.

A One Trick Pony, but What a Trick!. Just a couple of hundred yards down the road from the Oxford Bar, made famous in Ian Rankin's Rebus novels, the Cambridge Bar might be less famous internationally, but is just as well used by locals.
Both bars share features I love about traditional Edinburgh pubs. Lots of wood, total absence of a TV and small intimate bar areas with lots of seating hidden around corners. However, where the Ox specialises beer & converstaion, The Cambridge Bar is rightly billed as the best place to buy a burger in Edinburgh. They serve nothing else on the menu, but when you have this amount choice (everything from good old bacon & cheese to chicken breast & avocado) executed this well, why bother with lots of other dishes cluttering your menu.
I can only wish that more pubs learned this lesson; it's far better to do one thing spectacularly well, than a bunch of things half well.
To my mind they serve the best burgers in town, but if someone knows anywhere better I'd be happy to try.

The Cambridge Bar, along the road from the Oxford Bar, a regular in Ian Rankin's Rebus novels, is a small pub on Young Street in Edinburgh's New Town. The menu is simple - burgers and some more burgers - however unlike many of the new fangled burger places, the Cambridge Bar does burgers "old school" - big burgers, even bigger toppings! Now that is not always good, sometimes a more refined burger would be my preference, but facing an afternoon of beers these seemed perfect. I went for a bacon cheese burger - the burger was rare and delicious, the toppings good if not great. The Strakattack went for the Mexican - looked pretty tasty with lashings of chili and jalapenos. Along with the burger we shared some nachos rather than getting chip

The salad veg is nice and fresh, and the chips don’t disappoint either. The chips are crisp on the outside and soft on the inside, served piping hot. The garlic mayo is super garlicky and delicious, with wee flecks of parsley through it.

The Cambridge Bar, my sweet, simple work local. How I look over thee and love thee and wait until Friday (or Monday lunchtime) comes so that I can throw back a Black Isle Red Kite inside thee. How can such an ordinary space, with its russet and wooden hues, small bar and big screens be such a charming haven when so many others try the same and fail?

The Black Isles on tap help, as do their cousins Schiehallion and Thistly Cross. The wine list is also well chosen with a large picpoul de pinet troubling you for no more than £7, and a feisty Malbec loosening your tongue for likewise.

Staff are all about the pleasantries, food is all about the burgers, and the burgers are all about the hot sauces. See you there Friday.

Great location to get away from the hustle and bustle the main shopping streets. Their burgers certainly lived upto their reputation. I had the bacon guac that had a good quality beef patty nearly topped with guacamole and smoky bacon. The bun was good and held upto the task. Fries were tasty. On the pricier side for a burger considering fried aren't included but worth the price. Good range of rotating local beers and a decent wine list. Front of house staff were very friendly and efficient.

What a great find for some tourists wandering around, hungry and in search of a pub and a quiet corner. Set up with the main bar area with an open space and some big televisions, perfect for larger groups. Then there are some side rooms where you can go for a bit more intimacy, still with TV access. Good selection of beer, cask ale, whisky and other libations. The burgers are really good, so don’t miss out.

Cracking place to eat. Burgers are the main thing and they are good. Plenty of beers and ales to have. Busy place and good for sports on the tv’s.

Superb service and the Luau was to die for. We ordered a beef burger+fries and a chicken salad and both were very happy with our respective meals.

Stopped off for a quick midweek dinner on my way home from Edinburgh as I was nearby and hadn't been for years. Still a top quality option for a good burger in a relaxed, friendly pub. Good service, friendly and quick. Cheeseburger was excellent, nothing fancy, just a good solid burger 👍🍔

Without a doubt the best burgers in Edinburgh. I ordered the double Luau and the meat was incredible. The fries were freshly made and super crispy. I came with my whole family including my two baby nephews and the waiters were super friendly. It’s a totally local bar where you can have a total Scottish experience with very good food.

Some truly amazing burger options. The quality is really tops too. If any place knows how to make a burger, then this is one of them. They got great dessert options available too. Staff are also very friendly and attentive. Definitely not your average bar.

Enjoyed a delicious meal at the Cambridge Bar. We were in town for the night, and had dinner for two. Great variety on the menu to build your own burger (including the protein - vegetarian options!). Very big burger and we shared a portion of chips which for the perfect amount! Rugby game was on so there was a great atmosphere, and staff were kind and helpful. Cheers!
