Duck Salad was a savory sensation
Pressed pork belly on sweet cabbage was perfection, scallops in a buttery light white sauce sensational, light lemon custard on a biscuit crust dessert luscious, whomever is behind the scenes here knows what they're doing and they're doing it really really well!
Go here, sit order and enjoy for a couple of hours. The service is excellent.

The atmosphere cozy, super friendly service, food like it’s made by your grandmother on a chilly Saturday morning. Absolutely wonderful!

Dog friendly which is a big plus for me. I ordered the eggs royale which were excellent. Good quality coffee too. Staff very friendly.

Fantastic dinner tonight (pork belly + sea trout) with guest visiting from out of the country. Great service and wonderful ambience unlike the very noisy place across the street :) Highly recommend it!

Lovely venue, v friendly staff and excellent food. Our party of 7 were all very satisfied with their food choices at lunch. I had the peppers stuffed with cous cous and feta which was also served with sugar snap peas, green beans and a salad garnish; a delicious combination. And for dessert I had the lemon polenta cake which was an excellent balance of sweet and sharp.

High quality food. Independent. Dog friendly.
On the upper end, price wise for informal dining. But willing to support independent establishment with generally very good quality.

Fantastic restaurant in Edinburgh. Lively city with a lot of good restaurants (I guess) but Cafe Grande was superbe. We had an excellent full Scottish breakfast with delicious (best in twelve days of Scotland) Black pudding. We came back for dinner, had ao. a salmon/mussels dish with an excellent green Thai curry with a perfect level of spices. And the crème brûlée with the salted caramel tasted heavenly. It can make you feel so happy, such a good dinner. Extra credits to the owner, Robbie, who really is passionate about his restaurant and credits to his very attentive staff. The main secret: use fresh local produce and cook with love! And there is plenty of fish and ‘fruit de mer’ to be found within arm’s reach, in Scotland. Whenever in Edinburgh, go the extra mile and visit Cafe Grande!!

The haggis spring rolls are a revalidation.
Need to come back ASAP.

Lovely, friendly service and great, great food! Steak cooked to perfection, with a fabulous, peppercorn sauce; followed by an amazing chocolate mousse!

Highly enjoyable meal on a quiet evening mid-week. Simple: soup of the day (mushroom, IIRC) with bread, and moules marinières. The soup and the mussels were genuinely excellent. Service was attentive, friendly, and fresh, with no trace of snobbery, chain-restaurant "flair," or false bonhomie.
Quite wonderful, and the first place I'll go back to if I find myself in Edinburgh again.

Edit: Love the cafe! We've had brunch & dinner and had a great time. Food is really good, staff are fantastic and we always enojy our visits. We even celebrated a birthday, our meals came out quickly and at the same time. Kudos!
A gluten free menu with plenty of options is available.
What a wonderful café! We sat outside with drinks which were delicious, served by locally and friend staff -what more could you ask for :)

he staff were lovely and accommodated our needs. We arrived in a big group and they were able to seat us and do so with a smile.

My only mumble would be the oddly calculated proportions of yoghurt to granola (roughly 1 teaspoon of yog to every 3000 pieces of granola). Needless to say it was dry, although my friend didn’t have the courage to ask for me so that’s on her really.

Worth a visit and rather charming i would say.

Cafe Grande is one of those places I’ve walked past so many times but never timed it right for a visit. I’ve never been entirely sure whether it was a cafe, restaurant or bar so that’s at least partly the reason I’ve not popped in but when I was recently hungry in the neighbourhood I seized the opportunity.

Friendly service in this popular joint. We stumbled in after the juniper festival needing help and help they provided. A delicious granola with orange juice plus tea or coffee included. I had a Stornaway stack which included black pudding on a muffin with poached egg and hollandaise. We were very happy (and more sober)

A Grande Breakfast. Popped in on a glorious sunny morning and was warmly greeted by the friendly staff. The interior is nicely decorated if a bit dark and there is ample space between the tables. There is a good selection on the menu from super healthy to waistline enhancing ( my choice). My order arrived quickly and was delightful. All the items were good quality and nicely prepared and, for the area, good value. The tourist information in the toilet cubicle was a first for me but they know their customers better than me !! Worth a visit and recommended.

Excellent menu, I always go for the Steak which is awesome. Always leave room for their desserts which are to die for. Great ambience...a real gem

In the midst of the panic that sets in during dissertation time hunger sets in, not as much as fear does, but it still strikes. Being based round the corner from Brunstfield limits your options of places to eat, fortunately Cafe Grande existed.

Visiting again after the panic had been absolved and the memory remains the same, a very nice place to eat with friendly members of staff. The food isn't likely to haunt your memories for life for being amazing, but it will leave a satisfactory feeling inside.

The burgers are especially nice, as are the bowl food options, with the bowl food perhaps being better value for money. The venue has a homely feel to it, which perhaps makes it a pleasant place to work for the staff who have always been helpful and attentive.

They also have a fine range of sweets for afterwards, with the cakes being especially palatial. A good and friendly place to eat in Bruntsfield.

I came here with a friend recently and had an even better evening than I had when I last visited one or two years ago. You always have to book a table in advance as it is always really busy. Having said that, when you are dining there it never feels too 'crowded.' This is definitely 'the place to be' for lunch and evening meal or even when having a lazy weekend.

The menu is quite short, but i think this is good as the dishes are all really different from one another and there is definitely something for everyone. The food is always absolutely delicious and very well cooked and displayed. The service is always really good too, the staff are very friendly and polite.

If you haven't visited Cafe Grande I would say book a table and go and you will be pleasantly surprised. I would say however, which is why I havent given 5 stars, is that it is a little pricey to eat here but it is defnintely worth it!
