I wanted an authentic Italian meal to celebrate my birthday and Bar Napoli was recommended to us by a friend who'd visited Edinburgh before we had. We were SO impressed. The atmosphere from the beginning was great, we had a drink on our table immediately. The house wines were to DIE for, absolutely beautiful. The staff are super attentive and our servers Savana and Riad made sure we were constantly being catered for.
The antipasta starter was huge and SO delicious, we shared it between 2 of us and the mains were just pure flavours. Absolutely delicious. The staff sang happy birthday to me with a lit candle after dessert 🍨 and offered us a drink on the house. It will be a birthday I will not forget and if I ever come back to Scotland, I will be making a beeline to have that food again! Unreal.

Great little Italian in Edinburgh.
Really pleased that we found this place as I wanted spaghetti. I ordered minestrone soup, then the spaghetti Napolena. We shared the homemade bread and a side salad. My partner had the calamari starter and gnocchi with a cheesy chilli sauce. All dishes were well cooked and delicious. I would go back here in a second.
We eat a lot of Italian food and went to Italy last year. This food is authentic, reasonably priced, good sized portions and really tasty.
I highly recommend!!

This quaint little restaurant was recommended by our taxi driver and it didn’t disappoint. Food was delicious, hearty portions and hot. Wait staff were attentive and friendly. We loved the atmosphere and family owned feel. Reasonably priced. We were staying at the Holiday Inn Express on Picardy and it was a short 10 minute walk. Highly recommend.

My dad and I have been going here just about every week for the last 10 years and have never had any problems! The food is amazing and the portions are massive! We cannot recommend enough of their seafood dishes (Risotto Mare, Spaghetti Amalfitana, Pizza Mare, Calamari etc.) Always very fresh! Very cheap and excellent atmosphere. Service is very quick and the staff are all extremely friendly. Hope to be going here for another 10 years!

Found this place on google and gave it a try. The pizza was really tasty with lots of topping. The pasta was plenty and really flavoursome. The dessert choice was good and clearly homemade.

Their home wine is so good, aftertaste is wonderful. Pizza is very Italian :)
Very human prices for those masterpieces!
Totally recommend ❤️❤️❤️

A great, lively atmosphere - staff were friendly and though the service to get the bill was a little slow, the food arrived quickly. Food was delicious - calamari was crunchy (though the picture looks a bit pale) and the pizza was crisp. Highly recommended.

I’ve been going here for over 40 years, in fact since it opened! I was there last week for my birthday dinner! Superb food, friendly staff and it’s open late which is great if you’ve been out late and got the munchies!
I love good food and it’s why I’ve been coming here for so long!
Definitely worth trying!

The absolute best Italtian food I have ever had. The food resonated with me for over a year after the first time I had went. My wife and I planned a day in Edinburgh just so we could enjoy this food again. The atmosphere of this wonderful underground restaurant is exactly what you need on any given night. Its warm and the staff are welcoming, it feels like home.

Wonderful Italian restaurant with tasty food, quick service and great atmosphere!

I quite enjoyed dinner here, I like that the menu clearly called out ingredients like pork and the presentation for dessert was divine. The wine was okay. Also enjoy being able to see the chefs at work.

Very friendly... like a local family restaurant. Good pizza & gnocchi (1st time I tasted fresh chili in a rose sauce - a bit like... do you put green peppers in bolognese sauce - but loved it). Good value for money.

Ambience, food, decor and hospitality- All were fabulous. Ordered vegetable soup, chicken breast with mushroom and coke. Taste and portion both were amazing.

My friend & I spent our last evening here after spotting it on our way to our hotel. It has a massive selection of pasta dishes & pizzas along with chicken & steak dishes too. I was impressed with the choice of pasta & the servings were ample. I had the chicken, asparagus & sundried tomato penne. My friend had one of the vegetarian ravioli dishes & made room for the delicious tiramisu! We didn't book but were lucky enough to get a table as it was busy. The staff were very friendly & nothing was too much trouble. I have to add that the drinks were big too! We had a glass of prosecco each & the flutes were filled to the brim. It was a lovely end to our visit to Edinburgh.

Edinburgh like and other place in Scotland closes early and we were late for dinner as always. Searched multiple places in New town but everything was closing or closed.
Finally found this great place with wonderful quick service. It’s an Italian place packed with diners late night too as it’s open till 3 am.
We had the following
Veg calzone
Pepperoni pizza
Bread basket- terrible and stale bread
Spaghetti carbonara
Beef lasagna
Steamed haddock
Almost everything was good, specially since it’s a life saviour for late diners

Worst service in my life. I am indeed chocked by all the good reviews about this restaurant since I've never had such a bad experience through my 25 years but I am portuguese and the service we provide in my country is by far one of the best in the world. Anyways. First of all, we entered and no one received us and we were confused about what to do (usually there must be someone able to indicate the table and at least say hi to the clients - btw, not a word was said when we came in). Then, we wanted to go to the room underground but "it was close" although there was soooo many people coming in and out (?). We ordered and we actually spoke italian and the waiter couldn't give a darn about that (and yes, he was italian and we know the basics). The food is good and the service is pretty fast but they are ridiculously rude. There was other guy serving us and he throw cheese in my boyfriend's lap and ofc, no appologies needed (irony). Then, whisky with one cube of ice please but leave that, at least 7/8 just because. At the end, they don't even know how to distinguish vodka from whisky (grey goose is a premium vodka btw!!) and the answer we got "what's the difference? 1£?!". Errrr, excuse me?! At least be able to recognise the mistake you made, not us. The most amazing detail is that there were 2 girls having dinner next to us and the waiter was so nice and funny but I guess they don't like couples that much... Oh well.

No doubt this is my favourite Italian restaurant in Edinburgh. They are just soooo Italian! Food is great, reminds me my time in Italy. Service is just ( again ) proper Italian. Sometimes they ignore you or they just drop your food but I just love it! Decor it's easy and simple. Been here many times and definitely will be going again!

Just enjoying a beer in a nearby bar after a delicious meal in Bar Napoli. Service was top and very attentive, topping up our wine glasses without making us feel rushed. The portions were very generous and tasty. Even with a shared starter, two mains, two puddings and a bottle of wine the total only came to £45 ideal couples fun restaurant!

My friend and I have eaten at Bar Napoli a few times now and have enjoyed each experience. We stick to the basics like margherita pizza and pastas. The waiters are all extra friendly and it's open late. Deeelish

Good after hours. Great late night eats. big menu, however don't be too ambitious with choices! stick to the Italian food groups and you'll leave happy.

Fast service, tasty Italian food. Enjoyed it

I ate there last week for their cheap lunch deal and the bruschetta was gorgeous and the canaloni was delicious! The atmosphere was very relaxed for a Saturday, and I have no idea why more peope don't give it good reviews.

Disappointing. I ate here last week with my new boss; but have to say that we were both a little disappointed with our meal.
My boss made the mistake of asking our waiter what his name was and for the rest of the night we clearly received 'special treatment', which included being interrupted every five minutes to see if we were ok and being asked to try certain sides and starters.
We started with some wine and a bowl of olives, which we were told would be fresh; but I have to say they looked a bit dried out, were quite small and didn't taste particularly good. We were then 'pushed' into trying the 'homemade' bread; which when it arrived was certainly crusty, but was hardly worth the praise it had received from our waiter.
Our starters were ok, but my mozzarella salad was a little on the watery side and the basil had wilted and browned.
Our mains were quite nice, but my pasta a little sticky and had stuck together despite a lack of sauce and again the rocket that it was dressed with seemed to be a few days beyond it's best. My boss found a couple of hairs in hers and so that was the end of our appetites.
All in all, it was a little bit disappointing - but at least the bill for two came in at less than £35; which was the only redeeming feature I can think of.

it’s the kind of place to visit to set you on the road for a day of focussed activity that may or may not involve trips to several local watering holes

Came here with sis as it is one of her favorite places. Ordered the spicy thin pizza and seafood platter. We got a lovely sunny table outside and got served so quickly. The food was so fresh, light, flavoursome. you can really taste the fresh and skilful cooking even in the crusts. A very well run family business that's always filled with people. The desserts here are a class of its own. The chocolate cake is soooooo rich and is utterly divine. I can see why people would return and eat again and again from this menu.

Went here couple times for dinner as I worked on the same street. The staff was always attentive and efficient.. I've always enjoyed their pizza which comes on thin crust just the way I like it. However, I tried their gnocchi once and was not well impressed. They didn't taste fresh, maybe they made them there but froze them afterwards? I'm not sure. But would definitely recommend to go for pizza. You'll never be disappointed. Plus they are great for take away as well!
