The food here is amazing! Lovely portions and great staff, the heart of the touristic side of Edinburgh. The fries are amazing! Defo recommend if you are wanting a quick pint and a nice bite to eat.

It was a cozy place to sit and enjoy a meal after a rainy day. The waiter was really friendly, he recommended us good beer. The food was also pretty good :)

They have my favourite cider there! Can only recommend. My friend and I shared the loaded nachos and they were really good. Loads of sauces to dip the nachos in. The only thing I disliked was, that one dude seemed to work more than the other bartenders. They were mostly just standing behind the bar while one guy served the guests. Also the counter was filled with glasses (it wasn't really busy) which made the place look untidy. Otherwise it's a nice bar in a good location.

Amazing bartender, forgot the name - sorry, and delicious food. Atmosphere there was great, like in a typical British bar from the movies.

Such an experience trying out the Haggis, Neeps, and Tatties dish – and I must say, it exceeded all expectations! 😍🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 The flavors were a harmonious blend of tradition. For those unfamiliar, Haggis is a renowned Scottish creation, reminiscent in texture to black pudding. Crafted from sheep's offal, spices, onions, and suet, it's a culinary masterpiece that's evolved over time. While traditionally cooked in an animal's stomach, modern versions feature casings. The pairing with creamy mashed potatoes (tatties) and smooth mashed turnips (neeps) was a match made in heaven. 🥔🍽️ This experience has truly left an impression, and I'm now a fan of this iconic Scottish delight! 🌟👏

Nice experience. The pub is quite small but has a good ambience inside. Don't forget to reserve the table before you visit the place because most of the time, the pub is full of people. I had beef chilly and it was tasty.

Incredibly tasty chilli with sour creme, rice and tortilla chips. The beef was perfectly spiced. I really enjoyed it. The steak and ale pie was excellent as well. The pastry on top was flaky and made for a great dish. Drinks were great too!

Food was lovely. Good portions and hearty. Atmosphere was OK. Decore dated But clean. Service was haphazard but food came quick once ordered. Interesting to read the history on the wall and menu.

There are a zillion bars to chose in Edinburgh, Maggie Dickson's is one. The staff are friendly, the beer cold and the chips come fast. Plus our friend works there and she is good. Go MD.

Food was amazing, facility was clean, warm and inviting. Even though we were from the states the staff treated us as if we were locals. All around amazing experience!

Maggie Dickson’s is a lovely pub where we were looked after very well. The landlord knew his whisky and can recommend ones based on your preference. The food was great including several vegan options. The haggis, neeps & tatties with pepper sauce was very good as was the haggis burger. The vegan Mexican from the loaded fries menu made my wife very happy. Also there is a fascinating plaque outside with the history behind the name. Photos added . . .

We had a good lunch here. I had a burrata salad and my friends had soup of the day (curried veg) with bread and butter. The service was first class - our server going out of his way to make sure we enjoyed our meal. It's not cheap, typical prices for the tourist areas should be expected. The pub has a traditional Scottish public house look. The printed menus were a bit shabby, perhaps because it's nearing the end of a very busy season. There were TV screens near us but they didn't disturb our conversation. The story of Maggie Dickson is an interesting one, a reminder of the grim history of the Grassmarket.

Had a great couple of hours here. An intimate little pub with a good atmosphere and good live music. The baby Guinness are to die for.

Super friendly and attentive staff! We ordered some nachos that were overcooked and the waitress saw us struggling and immediately brought us fresh ones.

Great!! I ordered the vegan chili with rice and chips. I’m inspired to try at home because it was so hearty and delicious. My other ordered beef chili and loved his as well. Calm ambiance.

Looks nice from the outside. Not so appealing on entering. A bit basic. However, on first inspection was relatively clean for a pub. We ordered food and drinks. The waitress struggled a bit. Not sure about wines etc or glass sizes. Someone else from the bar took over. They were all friendly and helpful. I have to say I was a bit apprehensive about the food we were expecting. I wasn't expecting much. However, it was well presented and good. Overall a much better experience than the first impressions had given me.
