The Broughton Street branch of Bonsai is the second one in Edinburgh and follows the same theme as the first. Really good quality sushi at a low price. The Bento box is great value at £9.99 and gives you a bowl of Miso Soup, a choice of main course and Japanese rice. The staff are always really friendly and offer up advice for people who aren't aware of the various types of sushi. It's a shame this restaurant isn't as busy as it should be so please help and support this local trader and keep a good Japanese on Broughton Street.

This is the second Bonsai in Edinburgh, a variation on the winning formula of good food at good prices with a slightly nicer decor. I think that Bonsai is family run - there's certainly that feel to it, and I recognise several of the staff, who add to the casual atmosphere without being slapdash. They are helpful in suggesting dishes suitable for people with shellfish allergies, which makes it great for a friend who struggles to eat out anywhere other than Italian restaurants. Food is full of flavour and reasonably priced, I can't honestly comment on how authentic it is, but it tastes great, which is enough for me!

We have been frequenting Bonsai in Newington for years after discovering the joy, and benefits, of Japanese food and have never had a bad experience. Actually we have - when we turned up without booking and the place was full! Our mistake. All five of us in the family have our favourites ranging from the Sushi to the savoury pancake Okonomiyaki (took me a few visits to pronounce that proficiently). Today we went to the Broughton Street branch for the first time for lunch and I like it. It's larger, lighter and spacious but still very Bonsai with Manga and Hello Kitty decorations dotted about. I recognised some of the staff and they were jolly and courteous as always. The lunch deals, Bento Boxes and loyalty cards make this place great value. The menu is fun to explore and we like to experiment and share though often find we over order.... but can you ever eat too much Japanese food?

Bonsai is mainly known for its sushi, but it also has a varied menu of different sides that make it difficult for you to choose which to order first. Whenever we visit the Broughton Street store, we peruse the menu for 5 minutes before deciding to go with our regular favourites: a range of sushi (we always order the soft shell crab rolls), but also the crispy squid, takoyaki and okonomiyaki. Usually it's too much food for the two of us to finish, but they're just too good you can't really give up any of them! It's a favourite haunt of ours and we tend to go regularly. The waiting staff are very friendly and the food just keeps coming, you're never left waiting for too long.

Bonsai always seems to have groupon deals, and we've visited a few times using the deal! I think the food is absolutely delicious! As a vegetarian, I love getting the miso soup and then avocado rolls. Even without a deal it seems quite reasonable, with lunchtime deals and 'bento box' deals.

My friendly local sushi bar. Following the 'if it ain't broke don't fix it' ethos, this place replicates it's older sister's tried and tested menu to the letter but serves it up in a much more modern and airy setting. The lunch deal is awesome - £4.90 for a choice from 8 dishes all served with miso. The Bento box is fab as well for a tenner. They also do takeaway - grab a box and head up nearby Calton Hill. If they have it, get the snow crab Cailfornia roll. and the crispy salmon skin is to die for. I usually ask them to hold the mayonnaise as can be a little heavy handed.

My sister and I go here all the time - it's got a nice casual atmosphere and the quality of the sushi is great for the price. The menu also has good variety - and it has chips! Hurray!

I was a huge fan of the original Bonsai, and this additional branch is bigger, brighter and possibly even better. The best sushi I've found in Edinburgh.
