Sunday roast for 5 of us on a glorious spring day in October (!). Perfect place to sit outside to enjoy the unseasonal warmth by the river whilst enjoying tasty food and well conditioned real ale. It did take slightly longer than we expected to get the food but that may be because of how popular they were!
The app lets you order only drinks, which seemed odd but not a big issue as we easily went to the bar to order and pay.
Great pub by the weir on the river exe, seating all along by the river and great food. Free parking.
Everything is self service you need to find a table go inside get a menu and then go back to the bar and order whatever you want.
Please note there are two separate menus a day menu and an evening menu, make sure you get the correct one.
I recommend the vegan fish and chips on the evening menu.
Staff very friendly and helpful
Came here with family for a Sunday afternoon meal. Chose to sit outside as the garden has lots of different seating areas with parasols too. Views overlooking the River Exe weir which is lovely. Chose some nibbles and mains. All were amazing. Good portions amd lovely service from some very happy staff. I would suggest to book a table in advance as this place is popular. Order food and drinks at the bar. Will definitely be coming back soon.
I went there first time for family meal. There is great atmosphere, even though it was a bit loud. We had delicious food. People who were serving us were great at their job.
Great place. Dog friendly, beautiful garden with many seats outside, stunning river views. Very friendly and fast service. Dog bowls and treats available. Quite spacious car park but if the pub is full you might struggle to find free space. We had small fish and chips and Greek salad. Both delicious.
Booked here for a family meal (8 of us) celebrating my sons 18th, we were not disappointed!
The setting was beautiful, service was excellent and the food was absolutely delicious, all came out at the same time and was piping hot.
I can personally recommend the Scallops as a starter and the chicken and ribs combo for a main 😋 nom.
Already discussing with my partner when to return!!
Well done to everyone, well worth the money!
We ordered Fish and Chips, the Apricot and Chestnut roast, Padron peppers and a Cauliflower and cider soup. The mains averaged £16 but the portions were substantial. I particularly enjoyed the sides (soup / peppers).
For drinks, my sister was charged £6 for a glass of Coke and a glass of Tonic water which was a bit puzzling to us (no alcohol, just to clarify).
The restaurant is right next to the River Exe, and we could hear the river rushing which created a nice cozy atmosphere - beware of the seagulls though! One tried to swoop in on the food on the table beside ours.
We came here on a rainy Thursday for lunch. We hadn't booked. We were found a seat very quickly.
The server who came over was really lovely and our order was taken quickly.
The food was gorgeous. My daughter had a small fish and chips which was still a plentiful size, my husband had the burger and I had the plant-based 'moving mountains' burger which was absolutely superb.
Over the course of our dining, it got super busy and I can see why! What a gem!
Only a short walk from Exeter St Davids railway station, we were very surprised at how lovely the location was for the venue.
On arriving at the venue, we received a friendly welcome and ordered our drinks which were nicely chilled as it was a very warm day.
We took our drinks to the outside garden and found a seat right alongside the river Exe, it was such a peaceful and tranquil location.
If we hadn’t had already made arrangements to have been somewhere else a bit later, we could have easily spent many hours sat in the sunshine watching the water flow by
There was just two in our group, but you could easily pop in on your own, or go with a much bigger group.
If was nice to see so many do walkers there with their dogs well behaved enjoying the rest in the sunshine
The Mill on the Exe is a definite must visit if you are in the area, we travelled by train but there is a large car park on site as well and is only a short walk from Exeter City centre and all the attractions etc that you would wish to visit.
There are 14 rooms available to stay in, so would definitely be a location to come and visit again and make a weekend of the visit.
Lovely location down by the river. Lots of places to sit outside and enjoy the summer. Food is very good, could be expensive, but the quality is excellent. It was a very enjoyable meal, around £15 to £20 for a main meal.
Stayed here for the night and everything was great. The staff are super friendly, and the food is superb. Our room was modern and very clean, and even the dog enjoyed himself and was very happy with his welcome hamper and his dog beer!
Had a great time with my mum and grandma this evening!
Popped in earlier this afternoon to check accessibility and Kwesi was amazing answering all our questions regarding access. He got us booked in right away for later on!
Mega massive thanks to Sophie who put up with mum's excitement over a vegan fish alternative (which is absolutely awesome by the way!). She really made our night that much more enjoyable in this gorgeous venue.
One last thing: the food was incredible! My grandma and I had the fish and chips (plus some garlic bread) for mains and it was so yummy! Mum had the banana blossom fish and chips (vegan alternative) and I've never seen her so excited. Puddings were awesome too! Wish I had room for more food, lol
Great location and building a hidden gem in Exeter. Great food service and atmosphere. Fantastic place for summer days or evenings with outside space overlooking the Exe weir
What a great place. Beautiful surroundings and excellent food. We went as a party of 9 and everyone loved their meal. We had some food allergies in our group and they were very attentive...actually asking about food allergies when we ordered. My wife is very allergic to garlic and they came out and discussed a change to her dish to see if it was acceptable. Very attentive and caring. All 9 of us highly recommend the place.
A very Pleasant experience, We visited on a Bank holiday weekend and it was quite busy however we managed to find a table (outdoors)Having two working bars was very helpful and speeded up the ordering, Service was friendly and quick! Food was nice ( pub quality +) Good selection of Beers
I trust that when we are next in Exeter- We shall visit again!
Recommend!
Wonderful pub on the water. Elegant pub chic with a nice balance of old and new. Elevated pub menu but expensive. However the portions don’t disappoint.
We had the tikka masala which was beautiful and well presented.
Highly recommend but loses a star for the children’s menu which we found flat and unimaginative.
We went for a roast dinner at 2.15. The service was great and the food was lovely - tasty and lots of it! We were tempted by the extras but thankfully didn't bother as we wouldn't have been able to eat it all and it would have been a waste. Our 12 year old son went for the child's portion and it wasn't far off the same size as the adult portion!
It's a really nice place. We sat inside for lunch. A bit pricey but the food is very good. The Belgian waffle was amazing. Recommended!
