The staff are very helpful, attentive and lovely
The bedroom was spotlessly clean.
The bed was very comfortable. the bathroom was also very clean.
I had room23.
Had a fan and hairdryer also. So no complaints
I will add Wich is no fault of the hotel but parents of children that run up and down outside the door ,shouting screaming and slamming doors and even swearing loudly .
Again, no reflection on hotel just rude children left to run wild
The bar staff amazing .a really nice Spanish chap .
And the breakfast ladies on the 23/10 were friendly ,happy and pleasant .
The breakfast was delicious

A quaint hotel that is showing its age and looking a little tired in places. However, the excellent service in the hotel itself, the bar and the restaurant more than compensate for this. Lovely little hotel with exceptional staff. The menu is excellent too.

Can't rate the rooms. But the pub is very nice. The food was amazing. Very elaborate and at the prices a Greene King pub tends to be. Pricey. But worth it. The pub is a little tight for space, with a claustrophobic lay out. It can be awkward to navigate when it gets busy.

Stayed three nights on a B&B basis. Very good start with the friendliest receptionist helping me with parking arrangements, especially as we had arrived early. Room was spotless. Bathroom shower was as close to a power shower as you could get and bath deep and swift filling. Breakfast, you need to taste to appreciate. The " Eggs Benidict" by another name a triumph. Parking is ample and free in a town where parking is at a premium. No charging to an account however. Pay as you go to be advised
We will be back when in Fareham and The Red Lion is now our hotel of choice.

One of the best Sunday dinners in fareham. Always great service, staff can never do enough. Great choice of food and drinks.

I can't comment on rooms, because I didn't stay.
Good location, easy to find (always a bonus). Parking in their private car park, you pay on site and get the cost refunded from meals.
Shared 2 Sharing platters between 4 for lunch, lovely with whole cambert.
Service good.

Being a pub my expectations weren't high going in, I couldn't of been more wrong, upon entering the reception area I was greated by a lovely lady who was very helpful in getting me booked in for the night, went to the bar for light refreshments and was served a portion of beautifully cooked chip, the room was very clean, modern and spacious, a massive soft bed that felt like you were on a cloud, the bathroom was clean tidy and well maintained, breakfast this morning was to die for properly cooked and beautifully presented. All staff were very helpful and cheerful, I would definitely stay here again

What a total find!! We had the absolute pleasure of having an overnight stay here en route from darkest Somerset to West Kent, and can recommend it 100%, the room we had was a wee bit dated but very clean & comfortable and more than offset by the quality of the food offered here and the friendliness of the staff, both are highly commendable. Won't hesitate to use this lovely hostelry as a base of operations again in the future.

Great spot, rooms traditional with what you need. Staff are really friendly and helpful. Parking is free if you are staying.

Booked a meal for 7 adults and a baby... High chair required of course
Nothing was too much trouble for the staff and even with the the variety of mains ordered our meals all came out together..... Great service and smiling staff... Thank You

Great hotel but breakfast took 40 mins so maybe heads up if you're in a rush to go somewhere. Lucky i wasn't in a rush and breakfast tasted good.

Pit stop on a work trip, landed 5 mins before the kitchen closed and they still managed to knock me up a great chicken and ham pie before clocking off.
Very typical Green King, friendly staff, best selling beers and homely food.
Free parking if you’re staying overnight and very comfortable rooms.
Centre of town location if you fancy a walk up the high street. Plenty of coffee shops if you don’t fancy the hotel breakfast.
The bathroom is ready for a little modernisation, maybe a tv where you can mirror your device so that you can steam Netflix or maybe even a Nespresso coffee machine would benefit the rooms.
These are present in lots of other hotels at my room rate although I never use them so I’m not missing them.
There’s a kettle, some biscuits and really lovely cotton sheets.
Great location for Southampton and Portsmouth. I’d book again.

We had lunch here. We've been before and it's been fine for a Sunday lunch. I paid a lot of money for a fillet steak which was great but the chips really let it down. They look and taste like bog standard frozen chips, not even good ones. Considering the rest of the menu is quite fancy I'm surprised that they use such low quality chips.

I'm sorry to have to write this but if you are offering a half price deal on roast dinners, then get enough food in. On arriving at 5.15 we were told no pork or lamb, just beef or half chicken. We ordered one beef and one chicken. The waitress was not sure of the veg and didn't offer to check. After three quarters hour we managed to get eye contact staff to ask how much longer our food would be, told about half an hour, we said we were not going to wait that long only to be told he said 10 minutes! 15 minutes later we were told there was no more half chicken only chicken breast but our meals were being plated up. The meal arrived and was very nice but glad if was half price as not worth full price. It took another 15 for our table to be cleared after we finished and we were asked if we wanted the dessert menu, we declined and waiter left. We then had to get waiter attention to ask for bill. In all absolutely terrible service/long wait for food with no communication from staff.

Dined Sunday 1st OCTOBER. Husband had roast turkey dinner, which was a nice size portion with plenty of meat and veg, he throughly enjoyed. I had fish and chips, the fish was lovely and crisp but the chips were solid. Staff were friendly and attentive but there was no offer of replacing my chips. Would have been the perfect meal for us both if it wasn't for the chips.

Really disappointed.. we have been here lots of times especially on a sunday.. today was a disappointment mainly due to one member of staff that made us all feel uncomfortable with how rude she was for no reason.. firstly my pimms had flat lemonade which she didn't believe and questioned me but when I told the bar staff he agreed and made me a new one with no problem! Then one of my family members ordered steak medium rare which came out dry and well done but they corrected this and that's fair enough. Our roasts were ok but for the price it could of been better.. when I asked politely for a spoon I got a Sharpe "one minute" without even looking at me and didn't come back but generally she was just rude and short.. such a shame as it's not hard to be kind.
All in all we think it's gone down hill

The hotel is fine, food was just ok i wasn't keen on the full English breakfast sausage was terrible, bacon very dry some of the staff were nice , very helpful girl on reception carried my case to my room on the other hand on departing the hotel there was a less than helpful man on reception who just looked at me struggling down the stairs with my case, he took a look over then looked the other way,, he wasn't very old ,with a beard ,,large frame, in my room toilet didn't flush very well.

Great food and the staff was really good as well, we had golden years menu 3 courses and a soft drink £8-94 great value.

If possible no stars would be given.
Staff were rude, and acted like they didn’t want us there as soon as we arrived. Felt like an annoyance even though the pub was practically empty.
Absolute joke.
Food wasn’t good and very over priced (£23.99 for 2 roast dinners!!!!)
Will not be coming here again.
Thanks for putting an enormous dampener on my dads birthday.

Single room was a little "cell" like but the bed was almost as comfortable as my own. Plenty of hot water but I would advise some experimentation with the shower. Breakfast good but as a northern lad, some black pudding would've been appreciated. Evening meal was very tasty and served promptly in a cosy alcove and was only spoiled by a loud mouthed self-opinionated gentlemen seated nearby. Staff pleasant and attentive.
I would definitely stay again. Thanks

WARNING to anyone making use of this hotel carpark, whilst frequenting the hotel to dine!! Drove there on Sunday late afternoon to get a Sunday Roast and a glass of wine.. ( Only went there because their sister Green King pub, in Titchfield had no roast left ( despite having them on special offer for the day ) Drove through, noticed the barrier was up, so parked in the Carpark as I have done on many occasions over the years... Had dinner and a drink, that was ok. Came out and thought nothing of it.. ( barrier still up ).. drive home. This morning I received a Parking Fine demanding £100!!! Because I apparently didn’t pay to park!!!! What? I rang them, to be told it’s been changed a while now and that there are signs at the bottom of the Carpark and also on the tables to tell you!!!! Rubbish I can honestly say, I or my friend saw NO signs and definitely there was NOT anything on our dinner table.. and also no one mentioned that we needed to pay to park in the establishments Carpark... that is I assume there for paying customers!!!??? To say I’m fuming.. is an understatement, and want to warn others, who may park unknowingly...... I will of course appeal... but I really don’t need more hassle in my life.. all over a quick visit to a pub!!! I will not be frequenting this place again.. if that’s how it allows it’s parking customers to be treated!

I'm sorry to have to complain but our meal wasn't good at all. I'd been to the pub in October but found the potatoes inedible (not roasted or golden brown but insipid) decided to try again & give it the benefit but once again the spuds were very pale, the rest of it wasn't hot, (my mum's was luke warm aswell) my pig in blanket was fat round a sausage then the final nail in the coffin was my lamb shank was freezing in the middle! I politely told the waitress who swapped it for a piping hot meal (as it should have been first!) but the same pasty looking spuds. A table of 10 opposite had the same problem & didn't pay for their meals. Unfortunately I won't try it again.

Have lived in Fareham for nine months, & thought it was time we tried the Red Lion Hotel - we had a really lovely meal, & would highly recommend a visit. A big THUMBS UP from us

Best fish and chips in ages though not convinced with pheasant dish. Staff were very nice. The giant fish had me beat

Just had Christmas lunch here, the food was amazing!! I had the festive burger and did have food envy when I saw the Christmas dinner arrive.
Graham Tebbott
We had an excellent meal, beer was on form, service spot on, car park not a problem, no codes to punch in like the last time we visited, pay and display fee refunded when food was purchased, a lot easier to leave as we were on a motorcycle.
Thanks for a lovely time.
