This is the best batter by far. Not soggy, light and crisp. Thick fish. Golden brown chips. Lush! Had a laugh with the staff there too. Mega worth the money. Large fish and chips. Choice of side, plus bread and butter with a choice of tea or coffee. All for £11.99. 5* easy

In my opinion, these are the best fish and chips in Filey, possibly even Yorkshire.
If you like really squidgy soft chips, and a crispy batter then this style of fisheries is for you. Pricing is fairly high, but I feel the portion size is generous, and the quality is outstanding.

CJ's is one of the oldest fish and chips shops in Filey.
You can buy your food through the window hatch for takeaway but we ate inside where we found the seating kind of American diner bay style but really cosy, if you get my drift. Sitting among Filey memorabilia and fishing based ornaments, the staff are super nice and eager to serve without delay.
One thing to consider, if you dine in, you take the chippy with you! After all, you are sitting in a chippy.
Oh, and they allow dogs inside.. That worked for us.

Would like to thank all at CJs - they opened up the dining area just for us (two families with kids) as the fish restaurant around the corner let us down as I had called to check ahead of time but when we arrived they said they were closing. Anyhow the fish and chips were spot on… great batter, good fish and the chips were spot on too. Staff all very welcoming and after we left one of the ladies caught up with us down the road as my daughter had left her lip balm! Two very great full and happy families!

This is the second year that CJ’s have provided us with our fish & chip lunch, and they didn’t disappoint. With 29 portions delivered on time by Lisa, who was very helpful. Took my son here today for fish and chips to end a long weekend away, we were going to takeout but changed our minds and dined in, the waitresses were just so lovely, the food was amazing and really reasonably priced.
Highly recommend this fish and chip shop, it's a great location to walk down to the beach too and the service is spot on.

After a lovely day on Filey beach some friends and I stopped off to CJ’s. Fish cooked too perfection with fluffy chips all topped off with the whimsical seaside atmosphere.
To future diners- dont be stingy with the vinegar, its not very strong!!

Beautiful fish. Perfect chips... not swimming in grease... but neither were they dry! And the curry sauce... the darker, rich and fruity stuff.
The mug of tea was also spot on. Two empty plates!

Quite simply the best fish and chips I have ever had. (And I have eaten a lot 😁) for starters it's cooked in dripping which should always be the case to be considered good. The chips had an almost sweet flavour to them. the fish was exactly how I personally like it and the batter was crisp and flavourful. I will definitely be eating here again when we come back next year.

Wonderful! Staff were lovely and coped when my sister couldn't decide on her drink. Food was absolutely gorgeous. Everyone on our table enjoyed the food. I ordered the Cornish Pasty and Chips and the Gravy too. You'd expect something that isn't regularly found in a chippy to be of lower quality but it was very tasty. Drinks were cold and interior design is interesting and nice. Also the radio station they play was great!! 😂 The best fish and chip dine in I've ever experienced.

Absolutely consistently fantastic food.
I've been many times to CJ's (dined in and had take out) and the food is to die for honestly the gravy is like no other gravy I've ever tasted! The chips are beautiful and the lovely golden batter on the fish!
Portion sizes are absolutely perfect!
It is very Dog friendly witch is a massive bonus in Filey as it's difficult to find many dog friendly places!
The staff are very nice and extremely welcoming! They also have good banter if your up for a laugh and joke!
Cannot fault this place in the slightest, its my favourite fish and chip shop ever, highly recommend 👍👍
