Review Cafe 64 - Flaxton

Michael Brown
Ok, I give places mainly 5 stars, this is because I generally only review the best or worst. If I’m being accurate it would be 4.5 stars, not because it’s not great, just that I have occasionally been in slightly better places (which cost twice as much-more later!)but there is no way this could only have a 4 star rating as it’s better than that. So I went with 5 stars….explanation over on with the review. This used to be a very average place to eat, in its previous incarnations. This has changed first as you walk in you notice how clean it it, with good COVID procedures in place that are thorough but still welcoming. You are quickly seated by the attentive and friendly staff, given a menu and time to choose. As soon as you are ready, quick eye contact and service is there. The staff have a bright friendly approach and deliver the food as required, we had dessert delivered with our main as asked for, with coffee first, all spot on. Now the food, this is hot, fresh, well cooked and flavoursome. Staff keep and eye on you but leave you to eat in peace, which is a refreshing change. The prices are fair, and for the quality of food feels a reasonable exchange. As we were there when others left I was able to observe the enhanced cleaning after each person left, which was reassuring. Also the toilets were incredibly clean. This is a good roadside place to eat, I journey past every couple of weeks, and this is my new go to place for good, well cooked well presented honest food in a clean setting.

Me and the husband stopped for dinner on the way to the seaside and it exceeded expectations. I had the chicken in mushroom sauce which was absolutely delicious and reasonably priced at £8.95. Husband had chicken burger which was one of the best he has ever had. The cafe is open and light with minimalist decor which I love. The puddings, cheesecake and banoffe pie were mouthwatering. Everything was presented really well. Testament to how good I am writing this while still in the cafe ☺

Been here a few times now. Every time the food is consistently brilliant, flavoursome and excellent service. This should not be considered a café, it is far superior than any bog standard café. Eggs benedict for myself and Scrambled eggs with bacon & mushrooms for my wife was far better than any restaurants we've visited before. To drive past without visiting is doing yourself out of a food experience worthy of your taste buds. I am very lucky this is on my local route to York.

Pit stop on the way home from Scarborough. Great first impressions on entering. Clean and tidy. Both ordered an English breakfast. Good quality ingredients, non-greasy and very tasty. Service was excellent, friendly and quick. Coffee was delicious and far better than large chains. Nice one Cafe 64! This would definitely be a place we’d visit in the future.

We loved Cafe 64. The staff were very friendly and the place was quirky with a Route 66 style. We were met by very nice staff and the choice of food was great. The hospitality was excellent and the kids were spoilt by the staff. We couldn't understand why the place wasn't full because it was wonderful. I urge you to visit this place if you're on your way to North Yorkshire or need a snack/meal on your way home. The milkshakes are to fire for. The staff are lovely. I couldn't recommend this place highly enough.

SUPERB !. Great retro decor, spotlessly clean, cheerful/friendly/helpful staff, great food all at a good price. A gem of a place. We had a full English breakfasts which were beautifully cooked and Cappuccino which was a rich tasting coffee, all served quickly and piping hot. The whole dining experience was a pleasure. Would highly recommend this place, loved it

Amazing place. Highly recommended food is brilliant and the staff are even better. So friendly and genuinely happy people. We stopped here for Breakfast on our way to Scarborough. Really accomodating for children too and they have a table for the kids to make their own dessert at no extra cost. Lovely start to our little trip away

They do a fantastic breakfast with honestly the best milkshakes I've had, the black haired gentleman whose name I didn't get was very attentive to us. I got the big buster English breakfast and my partner had standard full English, with 2 drinks and the bill only coming to £24 it's outstanding value for money. Go here for a great American feel diner, peace and quiet outside York and the friendliest staff you'll meet
