Great location for walking the Peak District Boundary. A very dog-friendly pub with excellent food, both evening meal and breakfast. Comfortable rooms, quiet despite being on major road, and lovely staff.

What a fantastic pub. We stayed the night after being out on a hike with Boots up adventures. The pub is very cosy with a great friendly atmosphere. The staff are great. The food is very nice. The rooms are good aswell. The breakfast was brilliant. All in all a brilliant place stay if your in the area for walk. We was lucky to have a brilliant lady on the organ and some great singers to entertain the pub. Thank you 😊

My wife and I flew into Manchester on a red eye from the US. We were driving to York and stopped in to grab a quick bite to eat. The staff is very friendly and the food was excellent. The true English experience. Thank you!

Lovely cosy pub, comfortable and clean. Dog friendly. Serves delicious high quality food. Staff friendly and efficient. Do not try to get there using Google as it sends you to the wrong place.

A beautifully located pub/restaurant on the boundary of Barnsley and Sheffield. Cosy, clean interior and attentive staff made for a pleasurable, relaxing pit stop. A Peake District beauty!

Lovely pub/hotel. I stayed here with my mother for one night on our way back home from Scotland. The staff were very welcoming and friendly and couldn’t do enough for you. We had a meal in the pub which was all homemade including the chips and was very reasonably priced for what we had. Everything came out fresh and piping hot. Our room was a family room on the ground floor with a double and single bed and en suite bathroom. It was spacious with a desk, tv, kettle and tea and coffee facilities. Breakfast was also lovely with a choice of cereal and a cooked breakfast aswell. Also tea or coffee, fresh juice and toast with jam, marmalade and butter on the table. For the price we paid it was an excellent selection and if I ever needed to stay here again I would.

Discovered this place by accident while travelling between Sheffield and Manchester. Attentive staff swiftly sorted our drinks order and warmed up by the fire before returning to our journey.

Met with a group of friends; the staff were great about reserving a few tables for us, putting up with a dozen or so people coming in and ordering some food and drinks on a Sunday at noon. Ordered at the bar, they brought out the food, cleaned up the tables, they didn't rush us out when we were finished eating. Great and professional. They treated me as an American visitor meeting with a a dozen "tough guy" bikers very graciously. Sophie and Lauren were wonderfully helpful at the bar and over the phone making recommendation for places to stay even when they were booked up.

Always call in here for an evening meal when on our way back from Manchester. Food is always of a good quality and the roaring fire is welcoming. Haven't stayed here so couldn't comment on the rooms.

Great pub with a really good atmosphere, a buzz when it's busy and nice and cozy when it is quiet. Food options are great with both good variety for everyone but also serves its own specialty game dishes. All of which has been delicious having been a few times with friends and family. Great range of drinks as well and all very reasonably priced. Coupled with friendly staff it has always been a good time well worth a visit.

Very nice rooms on the road, quiet, clean and with great staff. I would like to underline how welcoming, willing and helpful the staff is. The position offers a decent view, but it's also very convenient to reach nice spots around, therefore is perfect for travellers that simply need a place to have a shower and sleep well and cozy. Also, the breakfast's very good with lots of different choices, a great start for the day! Notes: despite being on a busy A-road we couldn't hear a single car, and there is a large and safe car park off the road at the back of the building.

Delightful meal today. Can't speak for the rooms as only had a meal. Worth the trip. Gorgeous surroundings. The beef sandwich was melt in the mouth with real meat juice gravy. Pizza was homemade and not shy with the toppings. The sea bream was a lovely light meal, filling without feeling heavy. Cheesecake was rich and velvety. The trifle was a real blast from the past and brought back memories of summer parties as a kid. Worth every penny. Thankyou.
