We had a great evening with friends and family here on Saturday night. We were given the private dining room which looks like a library on the first floor and were very well served and waited upon by the excellent staff. The food was universally agreed to be superb and before we had a relaxed time in the bar sampling some of the more esoteric cocktails on offer. My only regret was the post meal 'jam doughnut' cocktail!
Just returned from the Archangel having had a gorgeous meal with 9 friends. The hotel had set the Library aside for our use and the waiting staff were so attentive. Our party had a mixture of starters, mains and desserts and in each case the food was absolutely first class. My lamb just melted in the mouth - fabulous. My wife enjoyed a couple of the special gin cocktails and we relaxed in one of the little alcoves after our meal. Great food, great service and a wonderful venue - highly recommended.
One of the best hotels I've ever tried, combining both the excellent service and the ancient greatness of the past , I really like and recommend and every time I'm in Frome that will be my favorite place ....
Fab food in beautiful surroundings- one of the best meals we have had in a long time - definitely recommend it
Amazing meal last night. Lovely atmosphere, all food was fabulous and waitress Charley did an amazing job running up and downstairs to keep all diners happy. Highly recommended for all food and amenities.
Having seen this pub/restaurant only from the outside I was intrigued and have been pestering Paul to go there. On my birthday we had tickets for the cheese and grain and Paul had booked a table for us at this most interesting pub.....I was looking forward to it!
I wasn't disappointed, we stopped and read the information re the history of the building which is in the immediate entrance, we then stepped into the building, were met with the most eclectic range of rooms, furniture and fittings.....all somehow in keeping with and not detracting from the bare, rustic original walls and ceilings. The bar stocks a good range of gins and cocktails along with all the regular stuff, the staff were attentive and very friendly, we were led upstairs to the stunning restaurant where you sit amongst modern wood and glass but under the ancient roof which is adorned along the rafters with numerous candles (not real for obvious reasons) the way the interior is designed allows maximum display of all the original features in their decrepit glory whilst you sit in warmth and stylish comfort to enjoy your food.
I had the wookey cheddar souffle, Paul had calmari.....both starters well cooked and delicious
I then went on to an absolutely gorgeous chicken Caesar salad, now I am fussy about these and have eaten many of varying standards......this one was excellent. Paul had blade of beef with wholegrain mustard mash......again he said it was very flavoursome and well cooked. Coffee was pretty much as you would expect, I drank the merlot by the glass which was a very reasonable wine, Paul had one of the guest beers on offer. All in all I thoroughly enjoyed the evening......oh and a word about the ladies bathroom, unusual but really clean and efficient, ladies please do pop in there. Definitely will return and am very keen to try the rooms, prices look very reasonable and if the rooms are of the standard of the bars, snugs and restaurant they should be filled with charm, comfort and style......will let you know in due course!
Great place to stay. Comfortable room and in a central location. ideal for The Cheese and Grain if going to an event. Friendly staff and good breakfast.
Exelent service and staff. Room 6 bath 10/10. Definitely planning our next visit.Thankyou.
Great great hotel!! Absolutely lush! Huuuuuge roll top bath in the bedroom.
Yes it can be noisy, well you are staying above a pub, and yes the floors creek, all part of the charm.
Can't wait to stay again.
Went there yesterday with my family. A lovely quirky building. Good selection of ales and ciders but best of all wonderful food was had by all
Initially, I was a bit scared. There was no air conditioning and no USB chargers. Fortunately, the weather was not hot. I have to say that the staff actually made the experience wonderful. They were kind and respectful (e.g., immediately provided me a fan, packed my breakfast when I needed to catch an early train, delivered dinner straight to my room, etc.).
One of the employees, Tia, offered to recharge my devices and helped me locate a place to find a proper adapter for my United Kingdom trip.
Their kindness went a long way! My advice, do not expect air conditioning and bring sanitization wipes (if you are particular in that sense). Also, know that their breakfast is impeccable! If I ever return, I would not hesitate to stay here.
An excellent pie of the day. Good portions and quality food.
Intriguing place with plenty of side rooms for peace and privacy if that is what you want.
Stayed here, had a great time. Huge lovely rooms, very modern and felt so safe and secure. The food was excellent, I had chips and chicken nuggets (I'm a fussy eater) and they were incredible. Catered for me the whole time. Will be coming back. Five stars all round
We had a lovely stay at Archangel this weekend. The staff were very accommodating with an early check in. The location is perfect and the rooms tastefully decorated with nice toiletries. If I had to offer some constructive feedback, the only thing I would say is that the room could have done with a more thorough vacuum since there were some crumbs on the floor.
A great find for us, Saturday evening pre-gig. Although a somewhat limited menu, service was excellent! Top quality food. Good choice of drinks. A very welcome breeze was experienced on one of the hottest evenings of the year! Plenty of outside seating too.
So much to love- the building itself is fantastic, the mezzanine floor above the bar is a very cool touch. The whole thing balances beautifully between modern glass and medieval magic. Haven't eaten there but great wine selection usually and staff are all friendly.

We had a great stay, the atmosphere over dinner in the garden was fantastic, a great vibe. The breakfast service from Karmann in the morning was exceptional as was the great value for money. Located right in the centre of Frome The Archangel was exactly what we were looking for: very friendly and superb value for a couple, a 9 year old son and our dog. Highly recommend!
Great location in centre of Frome. The room was nice, if a little tired. No toiletries other than hand wash and lotion, which is disappointing at this price point. The TV appeared to be non-functional. The emergency exit light in the room is very bright, not conducive to sleep. Staff were friendly and helpful. Bed very comfortable. Cooked breakfast was good, but at this price point I would have expected cereals, juice, fruit etc. to be available as well.
I loved it here! Such a special place… beautiful rooms and such lovely staff. They couldn’t have been nicer to me & my dog. Thank you… I’d definitely go back.
Absolutely wonderful stay. Lovely staff, immaculate room and facilities. we shall certainly be returning and recommending it to friends and family. Thanks so much.
We loved the room and slept well, good evening meal served promptly. Told at check in we hadn't booked breakfast....but we had! Staff very pleasant but waiting 45 minutes for breakfast was unreasonable.
Loved the roast the gravy was to die for! Will be back next Sunday. Confused by prior review about sauces all you have to do is ask.
I'd seen a few bad reviews in regards to the food and service, but decided to give the place a try anyway. The chef changed hands around a week before we went (April 9th 2023) and the food was exceptional. We both had the Lamb roast and I honestly think it was one of the best we've had. The Lamb was cooked perfectly, and the roast potatoes were exactly how we like them. Crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. I spoke to the chef after our lunch, which is when he mentioned he had started around a week before and was trying to turn around the food and service. He is doing an excellent job and we look forward to going back.
I recently came from Cardiff to visit frome, and went for a drink at the archangel. A real nice, fun atmosphere, and great staff. A personal shout out to luke who always
Went the extra mile, and made us feel welcome
Outstanding service. Karmann went above and beyond. The food was incredible and the atmosphere was brilliant. I can't wait to come back.
