Review Lanterne Rouge - Gifford

Mark Baker
A lovely cafe in Gifford. A favourite with cyclists and is full of cycling paraphernalia. The staff are all really helpful and was delighted to be offered a refill on my coffee. The hot roll I ordered really hit the spot too. A charming place to stop for a mid-ride drink or as a destination in itself.

Nice little cafe on the scenic route in Gifford. Themed around cyclists, hence the name, and located on the route alot of cyclists use. Great freshly prepared food, nice atmosphere and friendly faces. A must stop if you are a cyclist.

I’ve been to the Lantern Rouge many times over the years. I visited today, another very busy Sunday. I’m always impressed how far above and beyond the staff go to accommodate big groups of tired cyclists.

I love this cafe. Yummy food, lovely staff and so reasonable. My favourite place in East Lothian.

An absolute gem. Lovely soup and quiche (I'm not usually a huge quiche person yet would wholeheartedly recommend it here!), delicious baking, great coffee. Quick service and super friendly staff, and our dog was made very welcome with a wee biscuit too. Very popular with the cyclists and I can see why!

More places to be like this please! We visited on Sunday after a big dog walk and couldn’t have been treated better. Such a lovely, casual vibe and the dogs are all treated so nicely by everyone 🥹 coffee and food were AMAZING! Cake looked delightful but they had run out of almost everything by the time we got there - a sign of good cake!! Can’t wait to visit again 😊

Had bacon roll ample bacon in it. Good coffee offered a top up. Helpful and pleasant staff.

We visited Gifford as part of a visit to the annual Horticultural Show in Gifford Aug 2022. We spent a bit of time in the local playground, then a while at the garden Show and headed for lunch. Nice selection of lunches for adults and children, quick service and nicely presented food. Great selection of home baking available and they serve a good coffee. Really popular for cyclists, due to the local region of attractive hills and countryside. We've been to Lanterne Rouge for pre Hill walk and they served a nice breakfast and snack.

Really good cafe - well above average toasty with proper bread and chutney. Soup really tasty. Coffee was good and ethos/staff really lovely - they even were happy to welcome us in even though the kids had had a close encounter with mid!

Simply the best sausage and egg roll followed by strawberry cake. Both helped fuel the last 10 miles of my bike ride. Highly recommend to all.

Great wee cafe in Gifford, well worth a visit if you're in the area, lovely selection of home cooked food. Magic that it's dog friendly too. Eaten hear a fair few times and we're always made welcome by Cam and his team. Keep up the great work! GB Kate & Luca

A friendly welcome awaits the weary cyclist. Some nice touches from Cameron and his team set this place apart from the rest. Well worth a stop and ideally located for a cycle in East Lothian.

Great spot to stop while out on the bike, especially welcome after climbing up to Gifford! Cameron always makes you feel welcome and the craic's good, along with the coffee, cakes and scones.

Convivial friendly atmosphere in a bright lovely cafe, run by exceptionally friendly and kind people . Perfect toasties. Excellent rocky road and coffee made just how you want. I love the cross-section of people. Lanterne Rouge is frequented by locals as well as cyclists passing through, so you're never quite sure who you'll encounter - which is fun :)
