Came here for a post workout meal with Erika D and must say I really liked the place! It was empty when we arrived but it was pretty late on a Tuesday night and the restaurant is a bit out of the main streets.
The waiter was really friendly and the place is super clean and tidy inside. Nice atmosphere. I really liked the menu and had difficulty choosing what I wanted to eat. Had a good variety of dishes from lighter salads to burgers and pizzas. All the macros are listed so great way to help make a choice if watching daily calories and macros. We both opted for the chipotle chicken salad and it was so tasty!! Was surprisingly filling but not too heavy that felt majorly stuffed afterwards. Salad had a delicious mango dressing and was very fresh. We also had a side of sweet potato wedges which were so tasty. Definitely going to come back here and try all the other amazing dishes. I've got my eye on the burger next time! Good price too. Was under a tenner each as they give you 25% off when check into Yelp which is a bonus!
I visited KCal Kitchen today in the later afternoon and was the only person in, but I am guessing that at office lunch time or post work pre gym time this place will be quite busy. I love the fresh decor with wooden tables, white walls and green colour splashes, it is really bright and spacious even though it is in a basement area. I do wish they had more powerpoints, as there are only two I could see and they are both close together so although they have free wifi it's not really ideal for sitting working if you need to plug in.. just bear that in mind and take some 'away from screen' time and get your personal wellness recharge instead!
I don't think you necessarily have to be a gym going health nut to enjoy KCal kitchen, but when you are trying to watch what you eat, or simply love fresh colourful food KCal is ideal. All the items on the menu have macro details, so you can choose food which best meets your nutrition needs- this makes it easy to count calories too if that is more your thing. Want extra protein or perhaps looking for lower carbohydrate options? Try the sides menu where you can get simple things like boiled eggs, extra chicken or fish or perhaps even a superfood salad. Love tasty hot food? Why not try a healthier pizza or burger; they also do gluten free pizzas too.
There is a fridge where you can pick up quick food to go, but I wanted to sit in and was treated to very pleasant and cheery table service. I had a noodle bowl with tofu rather than chicken, this came with a sprinkling of roasted cashews and lots of silken tofu. The zoodles/ courgetti spaghetti with this was so good, tender but not overcooked. I liked the gentle flavours, with ginger and garlic and a hint of chilli making it very refreshing and zingy, especially with a nourishing smoothie made with coconut water.
Soup of the day was roasted garlic and tomato (vegan), with optional creme freche (veggie version), and the person who was serving asked if I fancied a dessert but I was nicely full after my main and smoothie, deciding that pancakes would have to be saved for another day. I'll be back soon, such a great cafe and lovely to have a healthy place to hang out, especially as they are open til 7pm.
So this is not a place you would normally find me, but recently I have been keeping a closer eye on all things calorie related so I thought I would check it out. First impressions were good. The place is clean, modern and has a fresh feel to it. The staff were friendly, welcoming and the service was fast.
The menu is as really interesting one and had lots of tasty sounds options, all with a record of the Calories listed beside them. I went with a courgette noodles, chicken and cashews in a chinese style sauce. The full meal has around 300 calories, was exceptionally tasty and very very filling. This felt like a treat meal, not a low cal replacement for a normal lunch.
I really enjoyed my visit to kcal and will be back again. It's great if your monitoring your food intake, but even if your not its got lots of tasty sounding options to choose from.
This place makes me want to be a health nut, just so I have a reason to bulk up on protein from all the delicious meals offered. The breakfast options were delightful and I loved the smoothie I ordered. The server was incredibly nice and helpful - I only wish we had been able to go back and try the lunch options!
It is so hard to find a place where you can get healthy but tasty food, so a new addition to the list is always nice.
The staff is amazingly friendly and kind, I must say. Every time I was here, I really felt that my opinion matters, one of these times I even got a small questionnaire so I can share my thoughts with them.
The menu is really well curated and diverse, so I tried several things already. Their breakfast toasts are amazing, the salads are fresh and rich in ingredients, the smoothies and shakes are really tasty. My absolute favourite is the Espressoats, which only lacks the 'Designed for Bori A' tag from it - I mean, it is healthy and delicious and it even has caffeine in it, what else could I hope for?
I also love the idea that water is also flavoured with some berries or cucumber or such. I think it's a great addition, absolutely matching the image of the place.
I need to admit I had less lucky choices as well, the Protein Macaroni Cheese did not become my favourite for instance, I just had the feeling poor mac was seasoned with protein powder directly. But that that was only one item on a pretty impressive list of different foods I tried, so I won't complain much about it.
If anyone is seriously into monitoring their nutrition: in addition to mentioning main macro nutrients and the calorie intake on the menu, everything is available in MyFitnessPal as well, which may help for people interested in such things (at the moment I need to be, because the scale is accusing me of a horrible weight gain in the past year, so I need to be watching.)
Not only have I been here three times already, I also know that I will return, and I promise that I will update this review sooner or later. My overall rating is neither a perfect five nor an absolute four - however I am tending towards the better score for now, and will decide in a few months whether I was right or wrong.
I visited Kcal Kitchen for a quick post workout dinner last week, it was on my list since it opened few months ago. Another great additions to the healthy places to eat in Glasgow, that's always a good news.
Interior is very neat and clean, quite spacious and there are a few small tables outside as well. Staff were really welcoming and service was super fast.
Menu has recently changed but it is really interesting, there are quite a few plates which a want to try - last week i had a big bowl of grilled chicken and zucchini noodles cooked in a fresh ginger, lime and chili sauce with toasted cashew nuts. It was really really tasty, l I was really satisfied and quite full!
Overall, positive feedback from my first visit and I will surely go back very soon to try other plates!
Absolutely loved this place! Visited 3 times in 2 days. Staff were super lovely and the menu was fab.
I was the only vegan in our group of 3 and was impressed with the available options, it was hard to choose. Both breakfasts I had The All American pancakes, super fluffy pancakes with mixed berries, granola and maple.... So good!
Friends had french toast, granola bowl and smoothies and love it all.
Coffee was delicious and the added bonus of the music was good on all 3 visits.
Can't recommend this place enough.
I'll definitely go back next time I'm in Glasgow.
It's the best place for the yummy food and also healthy food I would say.
The staff are very friendly. I love the ambience.
Definitely worth going to. I highly recommend this place if you are looking to have a balanced diet food.
Amazing place to eat a breakfast!
We ordered Heatlhy Start and Flower Power smoothie. Very delicious and I did it feel hunger after eating at all.
Also the interior design is pretty cool!
Been here a couple times now and have recommended to friends. Tried the s&c burger this time but the katsu curry was tasty too. Love the atmosphere of this little restaurant, so cute. Staff were lovely too.
Wow!! Talk about having your cake and being able to eat it too! This Macro-Friendly Restaurant was incredible from the Not so Zinger Chicken Sandwich with Cajun Sweet Potato Fries and the Chicken & Egg Caesar Salad- we were impressed! Then to finish the dinner we shared these unbelievable Biscoff Protein Pancakes for under 650 calories 😍❤️
Me and my friend went for a brunch last week. Food was so good. They do discount for PureGym members which was very good. I just wish they had a fan inside as it was very warm.
This place is a wee gem! Staff were so friendly and helpful, service was fast and food was delicious! The decor is cute and cosy. Free cucumber/basil water available which was refreshing. The only downside was the music was a bit loud, but not enough to detract from the experience.
At the time of visiting the new menu had been launched so the website was a bit different. I had eggs royale with salmon which was divine. Can't wait to revisit and try the french loaf!
Went here for my girlfriend's birthday breakfast. Excellent lil venue. I had a cooked breakfast and the hashbrows were amazing. Lovely protein shakes available. The food definitely leans towards the healthy side and the menus list all the proteins available. Very friendly staff and cute tables.
I have previously left a 2 star review due to terrible service received but have visited a few times since then and the service has improved significantly, so have deleted that one as it no longer applies.
This is probably the only restaurant focused on healthy food in the city centre. The shakes are amazing and the food is great too. The service is great and the prices are fair.
I absolutely loved my smoothie bowl - fresh and delicious and the portion was generous. Great, friendly service.
