Visited this restaurant for the first time at weekend. Food excellent and very good value for money. Real authentic Italian dining. Very busy, so you definitely need to book.

I am 15 and I feel as a young person going into a restaurant on a not-so-date with my best friend we were taken very seriously by the waiter who served us. As we didn't have a lot of money with us we only ordered a main course, I had the spaghetti meatballs which was absolutely fantastic, my friend had tagliatelle rustiche which was also amazing! All round good atmosphere, food and service. 10/10! If you've not been get down to Battlefield Rest!

Best Italian in Glasgow. We have been coming to the Battlefield Rest regularly for almost 10 years and it never fails to please us. It has been my venue for business lunches, romantic dinners, quick impromptu 'on passing' dinners, lunches with gal pals, dinner with parents, birthday celebrations and Christmas meals there and it continually serves up great food and brilliant service - whatever the occasion.
Last time we went I had the Calzone Battlefield which is heaven on a plate - especially if you're really hungry like I was! It is a folded over pizza filled with beef, pork, mushrooms, Stornoway black pudding in a pepper sauce. Couldn't fault it whatsoever. I have had most of their menu over the years and can honestly say there isn't one dish that I didn't like. Some of their dishes use a combination of favourite Scottish ingredients such as Arbroath Smokies, haggis & black pudding with traditional Italian ingredients making the B. Rest definitely not a run of the mill Italian. Their mussels are the best I've had in Glasgow and their award winning pizzas are superior to anything I've had in my travels to Italy over the years. I love their pasta dishes and my husband's favourite is the home made pate followed by the haggis cannelloni - my Dad extols the virtues of their spaghetti meatballs and my Mum loves the Pork Milanese and the warm crepe with honeycomb ice cream. The desserts are all home made and their strawberry pavlova is just wonderful. The waiters are incredibly efficient, never rushing you and you can sit for hours with a coffee watching the world (well Battlefield Cross!) go by. I have never had to send a dish back or complain once - about anything.
I would put my hand on my heart and say this is honestly the best Italian restaurant in Glasgow.
One of the best restaurants in the southside food was brilliant price even better will be back soon.
Mixed Bag of Tricks. Tried this Southside institution for a birthday celebration with the in-laws. Nice service, good patter. Becks Blue for the pregnant lady - no problem!
The aspargus and chestnut pasta had a distinct lack of aspargus even though we're well into the season now. It also lacked the chestnuts but we were informed about this before ordering so that's fine. Sister ordered the fillet steak rare but got it medium and went in a huff. They took it off the bill. Very happy with the open ravioli with smoked haddock, a creamy Scottish dish with well cooked pasta! Ostrich with brambles seemed to go down a treat. Good desserts, if perhaps a bit artificial on the apple flavouring of the sorbet on the special's board.
Will come back, very unpretentious and good atmosphere on a Thursday night.
Very good. Good service and extensive menu very busy on saturday night, tables are close together but it didnt feel too crammed the menu had all the usual suspects of pizza pasta but had quite alot of seafood available in starter portions which i thought was good , the food was well cooked and would put alot of the city center italian restaurants to shame , would go back .

Couldn't recommend it enough!. Love this restaurant. Food is excellent and prices even better. Very traditional and really enjoy it being understated and low key.

Love it. Great food, always. Fab wine. My only gripe would be how close the tables are and that you can hear everyone elses conversation but it doesn't stop me going. Quirky Italian worth a look.

Great wee place. I love the Battlefield Rest. The house white wine is lovely as are the majority of the dishes. This is real authentic Italian cooking. It's a proper southside gem.

Southside pearl. What a great place for a restaurant. Dipped in history this Italian is well worth a visit. Food is great. Service good. A little pricey but worth it as it tastes much better than most Italian eateries.
The best restaurant Southside of Glasgow?. I stay near Battlefield Rest and it has over the last 6 years become my local. The sea food platter is outstanding and the pastas are all good. Gets very busy at the weekend so make sure you book.
Very traditional Trattoria in coverted Tram station. Although low key, it delivers great meals and atmosphere with friendly service. Best to book early due to its small size.
If you looking for a genuinely traditional, authentic Italian experience here in Glasgow. Then this is the place🥰🥰🥰 super cosy and full of family vibes. Especially during this time of the year.

Excellent 2 course lunch for two of us - mussels and very generous platter of antipasto followed by delicious pasta.
Staff very friendly and helpful. Been meaning to come here for ages and very glad we did; definitely worth a visit. Looking forward to our next one.
Went in here on a Monday with my friend, and wow! I don’t know how I haven’t been in here yet! The place has such a lovely atmosphere, we were greeted by a very lovely man who showed us over to our table and got us drinks!
The food spoke for itself, fantastic! I got the slow cooked beef cheek ragu and my friend opted for one of the Calzones. Both were fantastic!
Desserts were wonderful, chocolate cake was fantastic! Although the Turkish delight ice cream wasn’t my favourite! But I only opted to try it because it was an option so not a complaint at all! The flavours they had available were amazing.
I will certainly be returning here with the rest of the gang! Thanks for a lovely meal.

We had a table for 5 booked locally at another restaurant but when we arrived and were lamely told the head chef had SKIPped and they weren't serving anything that night we wandered along to the long established Battlefield Rest where the new managers couldn't do enough to accommodate us and make sure we were comfortable throughout what was a fabulous meal everyone of us enjoyed!! Thank you guys!! A great night and we will be back for sure:)
The meal was delicious and the ambience was very pleasant. Very relaxed and the staff were helpful and didn't push us for the table like some other restaurants.

1 week before my daughters wedding we entertained 12 guest plus my wife and I.
As usual outstanding ,great food , wine and service .

Nice little place to eat but super crowded inside the night we were here. We were in a corner just about sitting at the table next to us. Loved the Cullen Skink and Halibut Ravioli. I wish our waiter would of checked on us. The waiter was unfamiliar with the credit machine and tried to charge 3 times for my meal. I think it was fixed on the back side.

We all really enjoyed our visit to the Battlefield Rest, food, service and atmosphere were top notch, and the set menus had a good range of choices at a very reasonable price. They were also very accommodating to adjusting a dish to suit one of our party's dietary requests. This was the first time we'd been back in a few years and certainly weren't disappointed, and look forward to our next visit, which hopefully we won't wait so long to arrange. Would highly recommend.

We popped into the "Rest" last week and were exceptionally surprised by the quality of the food. The restaurant seems to be situated on an "island" at the junction of a busy interchange (but is easy and safe to get to) . There is lots of seating outside for smokers and the décor inside is traditional for an Italian restaurant. Service was prompt and friendly . We chose from the special lunch menu and we had Bruschetta and Minestrone as our started both very tasty, for mains we had the lasagne and puttanesca both were amazing (best lasagne I have had) . Soft drinks seemed a little pricey BUT overall for the high quality of the food this is amazing value - we plan to come back again when we have more time and are back in this part of the city .
Delicious food, lovely atmosphere friendly and efficient staff.
Great spot, had the Apricena board with mixed seafood and mixed meat and cheeses. Went really well with a couple of cocktails. The service was great, really helpful, patient and friendly. I was spying on what others were eating and it all looked fit. Limited outdoor seating so needed to book, there's a canopy for rainy days. 😊
