Friendly service and lovely food! We had the parmesan cheese wheel pasta with sauteed mushrooms and pancetta, went there with a voucher so the value was really great, but otherwise I think it's worth the full price as the portions were great and the food delicious.

First time in here tonight, have to say I'm bloody impressed. Laid back little neighborhood bar come Italian restaurant. The food was marvellous, I'd ordered the Italian Stallion pizza and whilst it was delicious, if I have one small gripe it would be the nduja sausage on said pizza or lack thereof, there wasn't a lot at all, perhaps a little mean on portion to pizza ratio. Other than this very small niggle the place was faultless. Staff were welcoming and attentive. The decor is cool and comfortable. Oh, they play a great mix of old classic music from Stevie wonder to Rod Stewart which adds to the ambiance. My fiancee and I can't wait to come back to sample more of the lovely menu. Great effort from this place.

Love it!! Used an itison voucher for a main and make your own sundae. Ask for the vegan menu! Food was delicious and abundantful. Will be back.

Was here on Sunday afternoon with my friend. We had a voucher and it was excellent value for money. The two girls working were friendly and very helpful, the service was excellent as was the food. We shared a pizza and pasta dish with a glass of wine and couldn't fault it. Delicious. Would recommend and we will be back.

Lovely atmosphere and nice staff. Great generous portion sizes you could easily share the olive starter. We had fajitas (4/5) and Calzone (5/5). Drinks a little pricey but food very reasonable. 🙂

The staff, the service, the food and drinks are all exceptional as always.
Our full family’s favourite place when they visit us in Glasgow.
All the staff cannot do anymore to make you feel welcome, attending to your every request. Thank you for all your hard work.

Visited recently because my sister was visiting Glasgow and we just had to try the parmasan cheese wheel pasta - which was absolutely delicious, and to our surprise not too cheesy (if there is such a thing)!
We also shared the nutella pizza for dessert, which was also yummy, although I'd definitely reccoment sharing it.
The staff were very friendly and helpful, and the art of dishing up the pasta from the 35kg cheese wheel (pictured) itself is a bit of an at-table spectacle. We did have to wait a little while for the bill, but were fine with this as we were enjoying the evening.
The renovations are lovely, and the atmosphere was great, although there was a period on our visit where the music stopped and all was a bit quiet for a while although I think it took a little while for us to notice this so it wasn't a big issue.
As it's recently re-opened there are quite a few good offers online at the moment that are not to be missed - try Itison - we got the cheese wheel pasta with one topping each for two and a glass of wine/ beer each for £16 which was excellent value, but i would visit regardless of this offer. The rest of the menu looked yummy too!

This bar n diner has undergone a refurb in recent months after new ownership. Some great staff left at this time but service is still very good and staffs attitude is excellent. Great ambience for people who want to talk. Menu varied and food good.

Went for a midweek family meal and had the 2 pizza or pasta and bottle of house wine early bird deal so was good value. Really nice food, décor and atmosphere and the staff were friendly and happy to box up our leftover pizza to take home. Only complaint was that when the bill came it was wrong, so had to ask for it to be corrected.

Delicious food. Friendly staff. The refit is great. I had monkfish kebabs which were delicious. They forgot our ice cream but then didnt charge us. We will be back!

We go frequently, it does what it does really well, a good social place, does good food and has the tastiest white rioja. Also has bitter n twisted on tap. It's I suppose aimed at more the chic bar or wine, not a camra pub or anything. Nice friendly staff. And there is a cat which often sits outside.

I love Nicks as I regularly eat there and have done so for five years now. The service is fantastic and the food is to die for! If you are looking for an upbeat down to earth experience then this is the place to be!

This place was packed which was a good sign. Staff were really friendly and helpful. Our table was unfortunately under a bright light and someone couldn't make up their mind how they wanted the house lights to be as they were up and down all the time which was annoying. The mozzarella sticks starter with mint and pepper were huge with a nice crumb. The tomato and basil bruschetta though is probably one of the worst I've had. I like the fresh italian classic, crisp grilled bread, cool sweet tomatoes and tangy basil. Nick's served up piping hot squidgy tomatoes on a very soft and doughy half bap with no crisp texture at all and splattered with balsamic whether you want it or not. Bacame mush in the mouth. It was not nice nor was it Italian bruschetta. The lobster tortellini main was again very generous. Tasty with a strong lemon flavour. Very nice. The pizza was so-so. On the whole Nick's is ok. Great atmosphere, lacking a bit with the food. They haven't changed their menu since opening and really need something new - especially with the pasta options.

Bad chef ,bad manners. My wife and i booked a table last night at 7pm,we arrived prompt and were shown to our table,we ordered a bottle of wine and went straight for two main courses, bolognese and pappardelle with king prawns, the meals duly arrived and i tried a prawn and had to take the prawn from my mouth and wrap it in my napkin as it was so overcooked it was inedible,i thought maybe its just the one but no second prawn was exact same,i called the waitress and told her of my issue, she took the "meal" away and came back with menu as i glanced over the menu the waitress stood at the table,i opted for tuscan meatballs then the waitress says"dont you want a steak just to play safe?" i was astounded by this remark and thought maybe she knows something i dont,so i opted for the steak.by the time it arrived my wife was just about finished her bolognese. no apology or complimentary tea or coffee offered, extremely dissapointed in our first visit, cant see a second visit happening.

i also noticed the young couple sitting next to us ,the female of the couple returned her meal twice and told waitress of her dissapointment prior to leaving the "diner".

Best Restuarant in Hynland. Honestly this place is a little treat! I have been here with friends, family and work mates. The staff are lovely and food is nice and prices are good. I would go back time and time again! Clare xx

First time but definitely not the last. My wife and I ate in Nicks this evening and we can't get over how much we enjoyed it. We were using a spree voucher which entitles you to one complimentary main course, the food was excellent and such big portions, usually restaurants give less when you are on a special deal but not here. Service was superb, Rebecca and Lauren couldn't have been nicer or more helpful. It's rare in the West of Scotland to find people who are actually good with customer service and seem to enjoy there jobs so these two and the entire staff are an exception to that.
We will definitely be back. Lovely staff, lovely atmosphere, lovely food.

Twice we booked for a party for dinner, pre. theatre, one week in advance, when we got there they had no account of booking,,?? First time they asked restaurant across road to take us, ,second time was enough for us, won't go back,
Christina
Rubbish. Terrible service and a manageress that makes a bull mastiff seem sweet, I would never cross that door again!

Extremely disappointed. I have regularly dined at this restaurant with friends and family, however, on Tuesday 12th April i called the restaurant at 8.50pm to enquire when food was served until - i was informed it was 10pm. When myself and my family turned up at the restaurant at 9pm we were told that there were no tables available, in actual fact the restaurant was very quiet and we could see many free tables. It was clear that the staff we not interested in taking this table, and the blonde haired supervisor was even hiding so as to avoid having to tell us!!!! I am extremely disappointed and think this is appalling service - why state that food is served until 10pm and then refuse to give us a table. It was a local of mine, however i certainly wont be back and will make sure i tell others to avoid it if they want decent service.
Janice
Fabulous. Nick's was great. Got seated straight away. The drink's took a while to come, they seemed a bit rushed and it was still early. However, the meal was spectacular, best meal i have had in a long time from a restraunt. The facilities were spotless! Thankyou, will be back! :-)

Spot of lunch. Stopped by Nicks for an impromptu bite (only my 2nd time in there) and was absolutely blown away by the food and our service was excellent - so much so that I've broken the habit of a liftime and decided to actually post my opinion rather than just read those of others)

Was talked through the specials menu by a really attentive waitress who really seemed to care (despite me being irritatingly indecisive) and eventually plumped for the homemade fishcakes to start and lemon chicken kebabs - both fantastic!

So taken with this place, can't believe I wasn't back in before today - service and ambience absolutely flawless and the food couldn't have been better.

Loved it the 1st time and probably even more this time.
Really need to remember it's there so I don't leave it so long.

Go!!!
Jules
Excellent. Visited Nick's on a Wednesday evening after reading some of the reviews on here. We were not disappointed, the bar/restaurant had a relaxed atmosphere with a nice buzz about the place. It was difficult to chose something from the menu as there were so many specials that sounded fantastic but we opted for the lamb burger and chicken supreme with black pudding - good choice! Overall the staff couldn't have been more friendly and helpful and we had a great night so will definately be back!

Bit of a mixture..... Since Italian food is my favourite I thought it was about time I checked out Nick's Grill. When I booked a table for 7pm on Friday I was told it would be needed back at 9pm. I thought fair enough, at least I know. When I arrived, I was told again, you know we need the table back by 9pm? (The girl was very casually dressed, was she the manager??) Not the most friendly welcome I have ever received...
I sat down with my friend and we waited for the third member of our group. At the last count we were asked 4 times if we were ready to order, having worked in restaurants, bars and night clubs as a student I understand that simple procedures can cut this out e.g. the person who seats the customers takes their order...
Once we ordered our food arrived promptly and was very tasty. While I finished my wine, my friends opted for coffees since we felt desserts would be too rushed given our 9pm deadline. At 9.15pm there was no sign of a bill and another 3 tables were vacant. I asked the waitress if our table was needed or could I order a hot drink. She came back and said the table wasn't needed (that's nearly £15 they lost on desserts) so I ordered a hot drink. 25 minutes later there was no sign of my drink so I cancelled the order and asked for the bill.
Another minor thing which would be handy for the ladies loos would be a coat/bag hook on the back of the door...details like this are important :)
While I will probably go back for another pizza some time in the future, I will avoid the weekend. The noise from the bar was pretty loud and in all honesty I much prefer Tony macaronis.....!

Amazing. Love the atmosphere and the food great pastas

Fab!. Three of us visited Nick's on Tuesday evening and had a great night. The food was really good and the kitchen staff went the extra mile to create a vegetarian main course from the starter menu (my vegetarian friend wasn't in the mood for any of the main courses). The lobster tortellini is well worth a try.
I would certainly recommend this restaurant for relaxed dinning in a comfortable atmosphere with excellent staff.

Superb!!. Having come on to write my own review I happened across L1's review and feel compelled to question whether they have written theirs about the same Nick's!! (No offence L1!!)

Was in on Saturday night having booked a table through the week and was met with a geneuine and warm welcome and although it was really busy (always a good sign!), we were shown straight to our table by a friendly and (given just how busy it was) suprisingly composed manageress. The food and service was absolutely outstanding and although we too had to be prompted that our 2 hrs were coming to a close (time flies.....), this wasn't really an issue as it had been explained to me when I booked on Wed that due to the high demand for tables, time has to be restricted at the weekend - (surely the norm for popular resturaunts ??! ) so we we're relocated to the bar - not such a bad place to be relocated to!!
;)

Overall, absolutely delighted!!
Service? Excellent - friendly, very attentive without being intrusive and totally in keeping with such a cool place.
The food?? Beyond description - just outstanding!!

Well done Nick's - setting the standard for the West End - don't change a thing!!

Appalling service. The staff have the most unwelcoming manner and superior manner I have encountered in Glasgow for some time. When we arrived we were left standing around waiting whilst the numerous staff were all very busy doing nothing and studiously ignoring us, including the person who appeared to be the manager. It was bizarre. At times I wondered if the staff had ever been in a restaurant before, never mind worked in one. The way they served the food and poured us such ridiculously large glasses of wine (so large that there wasn't enough left for anyone else at the table) would suggest they've not had much, if any, basic training. They were also incredibly pushy in getting us to vacate the table in time for the next sitting. We were not told about this when we booked despite them saying on the night that this is standard. If it's standard they should inform you at the time of booking. They didn't seem to understand that telling us once we arrived was not the same thing as telling us in advance.

The food was ok, nothing to shout about. However, I wouldn't really have much faith in a restaurant where the answer to the question 'What kind of pasta is it' is 'Well, it's pasta. You know, pasta pasta.' I will not be going back and wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

Great Food, Slow Service. We visited Nicks for the first time on Monday 24 May 2010 as we'd heard some great reviews about the place. We arrived at about 7 pm and stood at the bar for a minute or 2 waiting to be acknowledged. We were taken to our table upstairs and drinks order taken. Drinks took a while to arrive, as did food menus, however the man serving was apologetic. I chose mushrooms stuffed with pate to start then chicken skewers with salad from the specials menu. My partner had bruschetta then pasta. Both courses were delicious, and the choice on both the standard menu and special menu were fantastic. There is something for everyone. Again, waited a bit of time for food to arrive but thoroughly enjoyed every bite. The restaurant inside is really nicely decorated and had a nice atmosphere. For those not in a rush, this is a great place. If the service was a little better this place would be prefect.

Jekyle&Hyde. My two friends and i eat here at the weekend after hearing rave reviews about this hip,new restaurant/bar and we were not dissapointed-the food was really great my veal was the best i've tasted and there was a great atmosphere the place was really buzzing. There was just two things that let this great place down-no toilet roll on either ocassion i went to the bathroom i had to ask and secondly the manager she was 'too busy' to answer our questions about the food and and practically hounded us off our table that we had booked almost two weeks in advance as she had booked it out again. We were not told of any time limit when we booked and being told to move really annoyed all of us.Having seen the other reviews i find it hardto belive that they are genuine and more likely written by the staff!! new manager needed asap

First Class!. WOW! I tried Nick's for the first time last weekend with my wife and what an absolute treat it was.
The food was fantastic and service was outstanding.
As soon as we arrived we were welcomed by the manager rebbecca who was just wonderful, she took took us to our window seat (as requested upon booking) and continued to check up on us throughout our meal making us feel like VIP customers.
The rest of the staff we encountered were all so helpfull and happy and the ambiance was just awesome.

I give Nick's 10/10 and will definetly be returning!

Been in Nicks lots of times, food has always been good, service has been below average on all occassions to date. However, my husband and I are locals and were in last night the new Manageress was fantastic! What an improvement, she could not have been more attentive if she tried and even offered to get our coats for us when we were leaving which has never happened before. 10/10 best service we have received from any local restaurant to date. Keep up the good work Lawrence this is a huge turnaround.
Ellie McManus
Jack Robb. Getting better all the time keep up the good work because us locals love what you are trying to do Lawrence and good to see you have replaced your manageress now we can all get a smile on arrval to.

Nick's Italian Grill. We had booked a window seat two weeks ago for Friday 19 March at 8.00pm. Arrived at 7.50pm table not ready. Ordered a bottle of wine and waited in the bar area until we were shown to a booth (not Tabel 14 as requested) at 8.30pm. No complaints about the food it was wonderful but disapointed about the table. We will return but probably not at the week end!!!
The Service Queen
Just OK.... Liked the interiors but the menu is soooooooooo limited for vegetarians. The pizza I had tasted very nice but was overpriced for what it was. Waitress was a complete airhead - after a 35 min wait for coffee, I asked her again where it was, to which she replied "Who took your order?" When I said that she had, she looked blank. I could understand if the place was packed but there were only 3 tables occupied!!! They need to employ staff who can remember orders.

10/10. My husband and I and our lively 3 yr old are back from a wonderful evening in Nicks. The staff were exceptionally helpful and friendly and the chef was happy to make a dish up for Annie which she devoured! It was so refreshing to have such accommodating staff and we will definately be back. The food was absolutely delicious and inexpensive, as was the wine. The atmosphere was relaxed yet with a touch of class. This is a great restaurant which I thoroughly recommend.

Better Bar than Restaurant. I was very pleasantly surprised when I saw the old 'EDEN' converted into Nick's bar and restaurant. 'EDEN' didn't work very well since the owner/s probably wanted to do too much; it was a cafe/diner, a beauty/gift shop and a hairdresser's upstairs - odd combination. Still I was sad to see it go, since I was their regulars.

I do want Nick's to work, since it's such a great location for the locals and it has the old tenement building charm. The deco is fantastic, dark wood and rustic brick wall simply makes whole setting warm and welcoming.

The bar was jam packed when we arrived, which is a good sign. I had high hopes for the restaurant. When the food arrived, I was disappointed. I had fish, which could have been so good, but too much salt has buried the delicate flavour, then the watercress salad was drizzled with balsamic vinegar which might have worked if there wasn't so much of it. The oddest add-on was the pesto around the plate. The side dish of green vegetable was soaked in cheap olive oil, the brussels looked over cooked, but still raw inside.

The menu was a strange combination, burgers, pizza, pasta, steak, stew and fish. I don't really understand the thinking behind it? Modern American Italian? Call me a cynic, I just had a feeling, the owner is trying to achieve maximum profit without putting in too much effort.

My suggestion is to get a new chef or forget about the restaurant but to convert the whole place into a piano bar, maybe offer very simple but tasty snacks. I do hope Nick's work well because it's good for the locals.
Sally
Nicks. What a shame. The restaurant looks great inside but the service just doesn't match up. Rebecca showed us to our table, gave us the menus and then was about to disappear when I asked for the wine menu, normally you would get offered a drink or the wine menu at the time of being seated), she returned about 10 mins later gave us the menu and made a quick departure again. For the next 15 mins we tried to flag a passing waiter, when we did he was really nice and very apologetic. However although the food arrived promptly, reordering of wine and the lenghthy wait for coffees was ridiculous. The food was nice but what this restaurant needs is someone who can manage it properly. Really do not want this place to fail as Hyndland Road needs somewhere like this but if they are to rely on continuing trade they need to up there game.

50/50. My partner and i visited this restaurant last week after hearing rave reviews from friends.I will not be listening to them in future as our visit was ruined by the abrupt and surly attitude of the young manageress who greeted us by announcing we were more than 10 minutes late and would have to wait for the next available table-which is fair enough i suppose. What really angered us was after waiting 10 minutes for our drink order to be taken and another 15 for them to arrive we asked what was keeping them to which she snapped back can't you see how busy we are! If only the staff were on par with the food then this would be a great place my steak was cooked to perfection and my partner opted for the burger after seeing one pass our table it too was great.

Went here today attracted by your previous positive reviewer. Big disappointment. Slow Gin and Tonic at the bar was followed by snail's pace service at the table - even though the place was half empty - medium rare cheese burgers came charcoled and without...you guessed it, the cheese! Even the mineral water took an edge to fetch from the well. We spotted the chef having a fag out in the garden during the hour it took for our food to arrive. Funnily enough one thing came very quickly: the bill. We found it amazing that a place so new could have so quickly fallen to such a slack pace. Buck up, Nick.

Wow. At last somewhere in west end that has that west end feel of culture and great food.
It has a lovely buzz and atmospere from when you walk through the door. Very tastefully decorated with a rustic feel. Great selection of Italian / scottish menu. The Simonsig cabernet shiraz was also very yummy!
So if you haven't been , you definitely must . you won't be disappointed.
enjoy
