Review Toby Carvery Captain Manby - Gorleston-on-Sea

I had the pleasure of dining at this establishment and wanted to share my feedback, specifically regarding the service provided. Firstly, it's worth noting that there is a queue for the carvery on Sundays, which can be somewhat lengthy, ranging from approximately 20 to 30 minutes. However, I found this waiting time to be entirely justifiable in light of the overall experience. The quality of the food, particularly the generous portions of meat and ample servings of sides, truly exceeded my expectations, providing a satisfying and gratifying meal. What truly sets this establishment apart, however, is the outstanding level of service I received. Our server, Kerry P, demonstrated a remarkable dedication to her role. Despite the bustling atmosphere, she remained consistently available whenever we required assistance. I must especially commend her for her exceptional patience and attentiveness when catering to my brother's special needs and discerning palate. Her friendly demeanor and willingness to go the extra mile significantly enhanced our dining experience. In conclusion, I wholeheartedly recommend this restaurant, primarily due to the exceptional customer service provided by Kerry P. Her professionalism and commitment to ensuring a memorable dining experience make this establishment a standout choice for those seeking not only outstanding food but also impeccable service. Will only be coming back if served by Kerry P. :)

Firstly, great carvery and lovely helpful staff, yes a little wait but well worth it! Secondly, well done to the staff who had to deal with the rudest customer in front of us! Even her family was embarrassed! Thought the staff handled her superbly, whereas I would’ve just chucked her out 😁 had breakfast next morning before long journey home and again, lovely. Thank you.

Well the carvery was awesome as usual except for the sliced potatoes which were slightly undercooked. The pudding I had was not nice and I could not finish it, the Yorkshire mint ice cream, the bottom was very oily and it was served in a bowl which was so hard to eat as I couldn't cut the Yorkshire up. But the service was excellent, our waitress was friendly, checked how we were at times but not too much and was so good with other diners as well as us, she should be commended.

The food quail it was amazing, great selection of meats that were tasty and tender, all the veg you could want and crispy roasties. The meal was perfect. The queue for the carvery was long and slow moving, waiting about 15 mins to be served. Because of this my drink had been sitting at the table for a while so was slightly flat with no head (also not served in a branded glass). But these are small things and my overall experience was very good. This was my first time visiting and will be back soon!

It was to celebrate my hubby's 60th. They placed our balloon on the table before arrived. The service was great, she took pictures for us. The food as ever was lovely. We will be back very soon.

Seated fairly quickly. Queue for carvery was very long ( probably due to the £5 offer ). Slightly disappointed with the amount and choice of vegetables but roasted potatoes still excellent. Was hoping for the boiled onions, a favourite of ours.

Came in on a Tuesday and they were fully booked but the manager was able to sit us down on the bar section after we ordered on the bar. The bar girl (I think her name was Gaby) was lovely and served us straight away despite being busy. The food was amazing aside the beef but our waitress Rojda dealt with this issue amazingly. Would go again for the kind staff!

I recently visited the gorleston branch for the first time in a long time and I have to say I will be returning again soon. The food was delicious, hot and a very good variety. The staff was super helpful and nothing seemed to be too much for them. The atmosphere was relaxed but the service was 5/5. Ellen took time with me while I was explaining my dietary needs and allergies to her. I would have no worries recommending your restaurant to others.

Good pub carvery. Everything cooked thoroughly. Most staff had hospitable service, some have had enough for the day. Cheaply priced food and even cheaper with vouchers. Sat quickly around 1pm. Fairly busy considering a Monday. Good all round. 05.06.2023

Had a fantastic roast here while on holiday ! Pleasantly surprised to see dumplings in gravy on the veg deck as our local Toby does not offer this ! The yorkies were massive and very well cooked and the price is fantastic . We were a family of 7 very well fed for £50! Staff members were very friendly and helpful and the restaurant was clean and spacious . Would def return if back in the area

While the food was great the gravy was like warm, waited for new gravy and again like warm. There was a queue too. Sadly not a great meal after all.

Great from start to finish..We were a party of 6, quickly shown to our table, and drinks order taken..Luckily que for carvery was short when we went up, (but was massive when we left). We all had a mixture of meat, but everyone loved their meal, personally, we will be back ASAP, it was delicious. Jason was also friendly and very helpful.

The restaurant was very busy which is good sign to me, the food was really nice and tasty. The Vegetables were cooked just right and so was the meat, our waiter was very friendly and polite and was really helpful. Could you improve on the captain Manby ? No it's perfect as it is

The drinks were good. There was quite a queue at the drinks machine though. I thought the food was ok. It must be difficult to cater for that many people at once. But the staff were really friendly and despite it being rammed the place was clean

I last ate here over 10yrs ago. I hadn’t been back in so long as I found the food to be terrible. My Nan wanted to visit, and she likes to eat early, so we came at 12pm on a Sunday. Very easy to place our order at the bar (we chose to sit outside as we had her dog with us) although we were confused as we didn’t get a ticket or anything to give to the carvery chef. We joined the queue, which was already rather long, and we had to wait around 20mins. The food itself was good, a great selection of great looking meats including lamb. I noticed there was no mac and cheese, which a lot of people queuing seemed to be annoyed about, personally I wouldn’t eat Mac and cheese on a roast, but I know Toby advertise this as a staple of their carvery. Veg was a bit lacklustre, as there was only peas, carrots and cauliflower cheese. The biggest let down of this place is the seeming unorganised way it’s ran. We paid for our carvery first (x2 king size plates included) and were told to just tell the chef what we ordered. I’m sure people queuing for a king size when they only paid for a standard. The grounds need some attention, grass needs cutting, litter picking up and just general tidying up. Overall, I would return again.
