Review Red Lion - Grantchester

Nice Henners
Kayaking down the Cam from the City, you are able to pull your boats out the river, and viva a short walk, are able to drop the kayaks outside the pub and enter for some grub and drinks. There is a large car park just outside we placed the boats and sat in the window with the light streaming through. The burger was very good.

I have been there just for drinks reason I cannot give a rate for food. Very nice place where you feel good, we could have stayed hours there just talking and drinking. I would say it's a traditional English atmosphere. I recommend.

Here’s what you need to know: it was absolutely charming ambiance (we sat in the garden) and the food was very tasty English pub fare. The service was pleasant enough, albeit there was quite a bit of self service involved (which is typical of English short staffing since Brexit). Absolutely Loved the scotch eggs and fish n chips. Their namesake IPA on tap was perfect t, and the Cider was pretty Good too. The short rib and flank Cheeseburger, asparagus salad, and crab sandwich were pretty decent, not great. Overall, the place’s charm and the fact that it was thee perfect weather day in the English countryside makes this a 5 star experience.

We had a wonderful Sunday Roast at Red Lion. We sat in the garden and enjoyed the sunshine and ciders. I was so happy to have their Vegan Wellington. It was so delicious and felt so great to be part of the meal. I’m actually vegetarian, so I also ordered the stickey toffee pudding with clotted cream ice cream. Everything about our meal was perfect. They have traditional options, but also many well labeled vegetarian and vegan options. We will absolutely return and will bring friends with us 🌱 💚😋

What a fantastic place. Good food. Decent prices and good quality. Service was great. The place has not only a rustic look but also a nice vibe. A nice warm indoor space and a delightful outdoor garden. Visit and enjoy.

One of the best afternoons ever spent lovely with families and the small kids food with excellent drinks was nice and fresh service was very good. Stuff was very helpful and helping me choosing the food because some of my families are tolerance allergies so they help me a lot thank you so much for everything and the chef that works. That knows what is doing. Excellent choice to spend a good afternoon with the family. I will definitely return very very soon. Thank you everybody of this stuff. Continue the good work

Great place for an outdoor meal, especially if you come midweek and it isn't too busy. New menu includes a crab burger, with crab meat battered and fried to look like legs. Delicious!

Nice place. Good for stop over. Seemed to be short of staff when I visited and had only 1 choice of draft beer. Food was good and generally staff were nice.

Nice range of drink choices. Cozy atmosphere. Haven't eaten there but have been told the food is good. Was charged £100 for stopping for a half pint but this has been dealt with by the pub.

Amazing food and the service was superb! The staff know their stuff and are enthusiastic about it too! I ordered a second glass of wine and it was brought to me with a candle as it was my birthday and was told it was complimentary. They were not told it was my birthday but must have picked up from our conversations and possibly the picture my daughter drew me of a massive birthday cake!. Thoroughly recommend and will definitely be back soon! Thank you for making my birthday meal that bit more special!

Nice place but unfortunately a bit disorganised... pre ordered weeks in advance as there were a lot of us, but 2 starters and 1 main were not available... that was the point of pre ordering. Still food is good, though they have gone the gastro pub route of the main meal coming with nothing but the protein and a salad. Everything else is added as a side and it just smacks of profiteering. Staff were very friendly and helpful and the outdoor area is excellent.

Smashing place with friendly staff and tasty food. The beer was well served too and the bar staff cared about getting me a good match with a brew Id enjoy. Well done.

The pub was very nice apart from one of the bar staff I thought was very rude. I was at the bar waiting to be served behind a gentleman that she was serving when a group of 4 older people entered the pub and went to the bar, they got served straight away and we had to still wait surely it should be first come first served.

Miss what this pub used to be like to be honest. Over £11 for a dessert and an orange juice with lemonade is just too much. Almost £5 for 1 soft drink! The pub does look nice but wouldn't choose to go there now for a family meal.

My first vistit to the pub today.Absolutely fantastic service by a restaurant staff. Our waiter was very attentative and more than helpful. Unfortunately i can't say that for the staff at the bar. Waited with my son to be served for 5 minutes and each time it was our turn the manager blanked us and served someone else. On the end we walked away with out the drink round. Shame.

Myself, my other half & two children (aged 5years & 8years old) decided on a random visit to the Red Lion, on a lovely sunny Saturday afternoon in June. I hadn't been there since it was Mr Bumpy's, which was years ago. We had a trouble with parking but I totally expected that because of the great weather. We parked a couple of minutes up the road, a short walk. We were greeted with a smile & we asked if we could have a table for four, we were given to option to sit inside or outside. With the lovely weather we wasn't going to refuse a table sitting outside. We were also told outside there was a play area for the children, we didn't hesitate. We found a table in the sunshine. We were told that they didn't do a tab system, with is understandable as people could discreetly leave without paying. So, we ordered our drinks before choosing a place to sit in the garden. We took them with us, had a look at the Menu & Childrens menu. There was much choice on the menu but the food that we saw coming out for other customers looked delicious. Myself & my partner choose the Burger & Chips, my children both choose the Mac & Cheese with came with half a flatbread each. Great size portions for adults & childrens. Looked better & tasted better than just normal pub grub. The kids enjoyed playing out in the garden on the climbing frame, meeting new friends. The children's dinners also came with a choice of a free ice cream or sundae, which was a bonus & a hit with our children in the lovely weather. I ordered them from the bar & were brought to us soon after. Overall, we didn't have to wait long for our meals to come out. Reasonable prices for food for what we got. We would definetely be visiting again!! Another bonus was we had a stroll along the river after our meal. Lovely family Funday.
